well maybe not.  i've read a lot of things that make methink we could get dx.  its possible that franklin signed for less than a million.  hasselbeck only costs us 5 million the first year and dx shouldn't cost more than 4 million.  of course thats all just speculatin but very possible.

If it turns into a flame fest. Runs off topic and never comes back? Really does make you think though....I think the supposed trade is put out to pasture.

Must be nice to pull 5 mill for clip board duty. I said I'd be more than happy to do it for free. Maybe throw in a laroning session! While I hope we do something I'm actually pretty happy with the current team. The draft is icing on the cake!

I say we just trade all our draft picks this year for picks next year, and a center, and a WR.

yeah i'm happy with it too.  i don't want to get dx,  just saying i believe that they could posibly do it.  of course a lot of people myself included are going to feel foolish for reading nearly 3000 posts about signing someone we thought would was goingto fitz or cruz and ends up being dx.  its allfun and games though of course.

I would love for it to be DX he has HUGE potential and with luck he only gets better

The WR irsay is talking about has to be Danario Alexander. He's a target the Chargers would like to keep but they placed a low round tender on him and him being undrafted means they wouldn't receive any compensation.

I believe the Colts (Grigson) sees huge potential in dare i say (Randy Fitzgerald) DX.

Structuring a contract that's sound enough that's a good deal for both the Colts and Alexander as well as keeping the Chargers from matching would seem like a hard deal to structure.

So if I had 1 guess who the WR would be I'm going with DX who fits the "Grigson Model" (Young, Upside, Relatively Unknown)

I agree and hope it's him! he has so much potential and i think he will be great!

while it would be cool to find wayne's replacement through fa but that doesn't mean  that person isn't already on this team.  its hard for me to remember but i dont recall reggie's first year or 2 being special and then he blew up to what he is now.  thats just how itgoes.  sometimes you know a player is goingto be great and others step up.  maybe others could see it right away with reggie but not me.  what i'm getting at is one of our players now will probably stepup.  we can always look to the draft for that future #1 or #2 receiver.

True but I want the colts to have a big WR and none of are WRs are except for that guy they signed from the CFL I do want Justin Hunter from TENN but if we got DX we could go defense or o line in the first round

i've seen that name mentioned a lot here lately.  who is he.  i think we might be pretty set on defense maybe an olb r backup safety in later rounds.  ol wouldn't be bad.  fa really fixed alot of our problems.

I believe his name is Jeremy Kelly but also if we got DX or any other WR and went defense in the first we could go safety or CB cause bethea isn't that young and toler isn't either so they could teach a young DB alot

True but he does have knee issues and was matched up often against the other team's third CB, which he was able to exploit to his credit.  If he can stay healthy he could be a good get but how much more money do the Colts have to throw around?  I think the best bet at this point is to just draft a young wideout with our first round pick.  There are some good ones out there.

But you never know what the Colts are thinking.  Irsay did tweet a couple days ago that they were still in the fight for a WR and others.  We have now seen the "others"...Hasselback & Franklin.  Maybe they are still looking to sign a WR...just not a "whopper".

sounds good but after looking at his profile it sounds like he would make a good backup.  i guess being beind davis and toler might help him.  it sounded like it was more physical ability issues he has than mental ones.  i could be completly off base.  if we're thinking of the future he sounds like a solid backup.

How would you guys feel about taking David Amerson in like the 4th or 5th??

Ik he had knee issues but I wouldn't expect them to throw alot of money at him I would be fine with drafting one for sure I love Patterson and Hunter Allen is good too

The cap works somewhat...Mark Cuban has...

Mark Cuban just won a ring and it wasn't a coincidence that team had the highest payroll for that year. Lol. And mark Cuban is a smart man. Reason why the mavs aren't doing good is because Cuban has gutted his team out and signed a lot players to short term contracts so e can win the upcoming "cp3/Dwight/smith" sweepstakes

And like i said, if it was a big market team, the core of Westbrook/Durante/harden/Ibaka

And all those teams you named, they have good gms. Now, what you bring up is the flip side which is totally correct, there are big market teams with CRAP gms but it isn't like those teams are in NBA lottery heaven.

And again, similar to the spurs, the celtics have been blessed with a good gm. Especially in the 80's. the genius Celtic gm who built a dynasty by trading his best players or a pick and trading for other pieces.

But you prove my point, if you have a good gm in a big market, it's open season. Imagine a good gm in a small market working with half the money. He has to make sure every step he take is a good one because one bad contract and that team is done. In a big market, they have the money to eat it.

And yeah, a lot of teams are over the cap but not by much. You won't see a small market team paying as much luxury tax as a big market team. Trust me, if it wasn't a problem then why was a the issue of a hard cap almost cancelled the entire season? The "new luxury tax" is basically a hard cap in disguise. You'll see next year how free agency plays out. I mean look at the past trade deadline, this was one of the most quietest ones in history.

And the heat, you have to research on that, that was 6 years in the making. Once again, pat Riley Is a genius.

So in all honestly I think it must be fair to say that our original target must now be off the board, if it was truely a whopper WR I would have expected someone to have leaked it by now and there to be more media speculation. To be honest unless you were talking a Fitz, Megatron or AJ Green say then what with them shiny rookie contracts we'd be better off drafting a WR, though I don't know if I want to spend a 1st one one. This seems to be a D heavy draft and I'd have thought we'd get more value by picking on that side of the ball or trading back.

The problem with Irsay is that although it's great that he keeps us informed and tries to involve fans in the ins and outs, because no one really understands what he says sometimes it's hard to work out where we are. I think personally that his tweet about going after others was the white flag going up on the big deal, but that's just my interpretation.

    • How bout this? Draft better and u build a play off caliber team. Ain't rocket science.
    • Look im not gonna say Ballard haven't had his own issues, but the guy has been put in an impossible position particularly every year.   2017 - He has a lame duck for a head coach when we all knew was gonna get fired and was drafting for his scheme so I'll give him a pass.   2018 - Arguably his best draft getting two All-pros and a stalwart at RT. He gets to sign his choice of a head coach and is left at the alter at the 11th hour which in hindsight was a blessing in disguise. Drafted Tyquan Lewis, Hines, and Franklin who all have or had great years here. Andrew Luck was back and playing like an MVP.   2019 - Horrible draft. No excuses. It was his worst draft as a GM, but he did find a gem in Speed. Luck retiring a week before the season starts would put any GM in a tough spot so once again I'll give him a pass.   2020 - His second best draft getting Pittman, Taylor, and Blackmon. Signed Rivers and traded for Buckner and won 11 games. Unfortunately lost to the Bills in the playoffs.   2021 - I honestly can't tell for certain what happened in terms of QB. Ive heard Rivers was supposed to re-sign, but choice to retire. I've heard he was pushed to retirement as the colts wanted to go in a different direction which was apparently Stafford before the Rams came in last second. I heard Reich pushed hard for Wentz saying he can fix him against the wishes of Ballard. If you ask me, I think Stafford was plan A as Stafford himself said him and his wife were so convinced he was going to Indy that they started looking at homes. When that fell through, imo Reich lobbied for Wentz. Whatever it was, Wentz was the guy and the QB carousal was supposedly stopped at least we thought. A god-like season for Taylor was not enough to save Wentz from ultimately being traded and you can chalk that one on whomever Reich or Ballard depending on what story you want to believe. In terms of the draft, Paye and Dayo have been reliable players on the dline, Granson you can make an argument is our best TE, and Fries came into his own last year.   2022 - Just an overall disaster of a season. Went the bandage route again at QB trading for Matt Ryan and you can say the colts did him no favors in terms of oline protection and JT getting hurt, but that was a failed trade for a miserable season. 2022 draft is still under elevation, but Pierce and Woods did show potential as rookies and Raimann looks to be the LT of the future.   2023 - Ballard finally gets to draft a QB to tether him to and Richardson plays a grand total of 12 quarters. It just seems like Ballard can not catch a break when it comes to QBs, but from I've seen from Richardson, I have very high expectations.
    • Hi Colts fans,   Yeah, I know, I know.  I was just as surprised as you were.  No clue why my good friend Jim Irsay would call me up and offer me the head coaching job.  I had to remind him.  Dude, I said, you do know that I've never coached at all at the NFL level.  Not coordinator.  Not even position coach.  Nothing.  It didn't seem to matter.  It was as if all that was required was for me to be good friends with the owner, and -- bazinga! -- I could be a head coach.   It was awkward, you know.  That first coaches meeting.  There was Gus Bradley.  And there was John Fox.  Both of them had been head coaches.  Heck, both of them had coached in a Super Bowl!  Yet here I was, promoted to be their boss, having never coached before.  Ever.   But, you know, Bud Grant did it.  So, why not?  Remember, I have a way of doing things.   Ok, sorry, I couldn't help but giggle.  I have a way of doing... what, exactly?  Things?  Things like coaching?  I have a way of coaching?  And how did I develop that way?  By actually, you know, coaching?   Anyway, I'm glad you have a new head coach.  One who has actually coached before.  And his experience doing that is bearing fruit.  I'm just glad I'm already in the Ring of Honor.  Because after what happened, I doubt that I would ever be accepted in by the fans, regardless of how I was as a player.  Heck, they would have put Andrew Luck in before they would even consider me.   In the meantime, I'm back at ESPN, attempting to "un-burn" bridges.  It can happen.  I heard Bud Grant did that once....   Regards, Jeff Saturday
    • We certainly have options as both DB draftees started at FS as well as CB in college. Perhaps Thomas ‘could’ revert back to CB as well?
    • Here's to hoping Colts hit the jackpot and everyone looks back saying wow he was definitely the best wr in that draft...
