Ty Powell, Harding, Colts interested in him

Recommended Posts

I love everything I read about him

Key excerpts from above URL: Indianapolis Colts linebackers coach Jeff FitzGerald led Powell through a workout that lasted for about an hour. Powell, who is being checked out as a linebacker by NFL teams, looked good in the drills and displayed exceptional ball skills.

Former QB and CB at high school, DL/DE at high school and college, now potentially a 3-4 OLB??? This guy is that diamond in the rough that Grigson likes to find

I'd rather have Collins too...   but we're not comparing apples to apples here...

Collins is a likely 2nd round pick....   Powell is more likely a 4th to 5th round pick....

Perhaps but at this point....and maybe it will change, who knows Collins has a top of the 4th round grade of 68.8 while Powell has a very close 68.0

Right....   on NFL.com.....

And at ESPN,  Collins has a 77, mid to upper 3rd round...    and Powell has a 65,  middle of the 4th....

Everyone sees and values the same thing differently....

By the way,  evaluations are far from over and draft boards are not set yet....

Looks like one of the Colts coaches is leading him through the entire workout. I think we'vegot a fair amount of interest in this kid. Some of the things he is doing in this workout appeal more to him being an ILB instead of an OLB. I never only saw one time where he did any drills rushing the passer. May mean something, may not I suppose.

I view him as a fit for the role that Moise Foku played. If they have a role for him at MLB I think he could come in and compete with Angerer and Conner.

I do think he is looked at more from the coverage point of view than pass rush.

However, if they did not have draft eligible OL, there probably wasn't much of a point trotting out one of his fellow Bisons' OL, just to see how he does well vs them in pass rush??? Not sure how things work with Pro Days, if an OL guy they would never be interested in would be asked to come out and show his skills just to see how well Powell can do pass rush???

    • Bears went 7-6 over their last 13 games last season. They have a top 5 defense. And they added Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze to their WR group. I know Caleb is a rookie, but he's the best QB prospect in recent years.   They should be pretty good.
    • Of course, I'm never compelled to instantly share my opinion on such matters of whether he is right or wrong...since nobody cares what anybody's opinion is.  I look at it from the perspective of an objective observer of how controversies get started and how the NFL gets involved.   I believe Butker is guilty of giving a speech to a Christian based college that speaks to traditional values..  Go figure...maybe he tailored the speech to his audience and not the general public?  But the fact that he said it with a microphone meant it got picked up by the general public, and so now it must be shouted down by those who probably chose to not attend a Christian college to begin with.  Weird that they feel compelled to get involved.   If I read his words correctly, what Butker actually said (to women in a Christian college) is that most of you will choose to get married and have kids,  And that when you do, that should be the most important thing in your life.  He then praised his wife for how she chose to do it.  Not much different than Lou Holtz telling men that when you become a father, the most important thing is to show your children's mother how much you love her.     Wow, what controversy, what extremism.  That it might be okay to be devoted ONLY to your family and God, and to choose to not be devoted to an Employer and the correct Social Narratives.   I think if the NFL says anything, it should support its player against attacks by those who simply disagree with an opinion, instead of taking sides in the opinion.   After all, Butker was not wearing an NFL uniform, or representing the NFL in any capacity...and it pretty obvious he wasn't.   I guess the NFL is still scared of potential shakedowns and must quickly issue a statement telling the public how much they are on the correct side of things in case there is the slightest hint that silence implies they aren't.    But its interesting to see that Butker's Jersey sales have increased dramatically.  Maybe the NFL should donate the money to women's causes since it can't possibly want to be tainted with money from such horrible and unpopular ideas.
    • I picture a plethora of 70 yard moonshots for tds.  Steichen can coach us to 10+ wins even with what I see as a tougher schedule. Can the o-line limit penalties, and can the D win the turnover battle?  8 wins is my guess.   If Gonclaves raises our RG play and we have a healthy season, 11 wins would be a great season.
    • https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/40162983/scottie-scheffler-detained-police-prior-start-pga-championship   Louisville PD man... That's all I can say.
    • I think they win 6-9 games. So I guess the likelihood is less than 9 wins.    I just think this schedule will play out much tougher. And even a 9-win season would be akin to a 2-3 game improvement over last season IMO. So I think it's a 6-7 win floor with 8-9 wins, on paper.
