Not talking about Gordy, the Colts Traded a 2nd next year and a conditional late round pick for Vontae Davis, I was thinking 2013's 6th round would also go to the Dolphins, we would only have 3 draft picks left but I could be mistaken haha

Where does it say that? All reports I've seen have said just a 2nd.

said this before but i will say it again...Davis is better than any CB we could get at that projected pick. Also he's ready to play and has made plays in this league. I think this is a good move and this is they type of corners you want to bring in, draft and develop. Nice move Grigs...this is a build the monster type of move.

....Absolutely. He's young enough so that he can be a Colt for many years, and he's experienced enough so that he doesn't need to be groomed, he just needs to learn the defense.

I hope it is in 2014. If that is the case, it will make me feel better.

Technique and skill can be elevated with coaching, work ethic can only be changed so much. Our secondary is still relatively young enough that there are not many vets that will keep Vontae Davis in check if he is dogging it. That is why the 3rd rounder would have offset our risk, IMO. If it is a 3rd rounder and if Vontae Davis keeps dogging it, you can cut him and deal with the loss better, not so much with a 2nd rounder.

It's next year per jim

I'll take it and love it, like people here said 3rd would have been better and Im sure we could have pulled it off if we threw in a player. But potentially great pickup. Not gonna get to high on this or low. Lets see how it works out.Plugging our holes one day at time. Can move Powers to #2 now

I did NOT want to give up a player. All those Dolphins fans who wanted Wayne the last few days.....Jesus. No. Our offense needs Wayne right now as much as they need air to breathe.

This was written about Davis about a few weeks before the season ended.

Dolphins CB Vontae Davis has yet to allow a touchdown pass this season.

According to Pro Football Focus, QBs have a 66.7 rating throwing into Davis' coverage area. It's a major improvement from last season and much better mark than Sean Smith's 101.9 rating. Now over a nagging hamstring injury, Davis' play has picked up substantially since a one-game suspension early last month.

Can't wait for everybody to start defending the move now by calling him a lazy bum. He's still our best corner.

So there is no confusion about calling me a homer or anything, let me be on record as saying this is a DUMB trade by the Dolphins. Stupid.

HOW DOES REGGIE WAYNE NOT COME BACK IN THIS DEAL?!?!?!? ANOTHER darn DRAFT PICK?!?!?! Good Lord. I was always somewhat of a defendant of Ireland but this is completely non-sensical. Ban him from team headquarters!

He is a GOOD cornerback and unless we work some magic with that 2nd round pick, our team just got worse.

I hate my life

Holy **** man.

I don't like this move at all.

Wow for a **** 2nd round pick? Come on, Ireland, you'd better have something up your sleeve.

Welp! Get ready for 2007 all over again! We couldn't at least get Reggie Wayne back for Davis?!?!? Not even a darn WR?!?!? COME ON IRELAND YOU *!

Sigh. This is ridiculous.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just some things Dolphins fans are saying on their forum.

He can draft a WR or 2 now though. I don't think Reggie was even on the table so I wouldn't be disappointed you didn't get him.

dont think thats a good move we aint gonna be that much better this year cause of one player

Who knows. A few turnovers in a game or a few FGs given up instead of TDs.....

Never underestimate the power of better defense to help your offense. :) Especially in this pass heavy league.

Wow that is pretty incredible. A big upgrade to our defense no doubt.

That's ok, the salary cap will be perfect for grabbing FAs or trading for expensive players.

I think Davis is a top 10 CB if he develops more and really blossoms in this system he will be a top 5 CB. I'm still shocked at the MIA front office...the hardest spot to find on a DEF is a corner. Sure you can find someone to fill in but a true corner that people will have to at least worry about throwing against? This is a big move...sure cry me a river about the draft picks IDK. As a GM you do what you can to improve the team. I think once people realize that this is a big move they will start to understand that what was given up for a player of Davis's caliber is worth it.

lmao at comparing him to Cromartie are you serious? Cromartie is a freak but Davis is a bull and will hit you in the mouth and covers well. Whats the sense of having a good cover corner and they shy away from tackling or contact in general. I hope he picks up the DEF quickly because we need him. We need one more corner like this so Powers can play the position tailored for him Nickle CB

Yeah, but they were all convinced we would give them Reggie and a 1 or 2.

Who Dolphin fans? I'm not surprised. Fans often want the unlikely. Colts kept Reggie for a leadership roll( not up for trades) but Dolphin fans probably didn't realize that. They probably just looked at Waynes age, how the Colts are going young, and thought they could get him.

Great move on our part. We gave up a pick for a player that we already know can produce, and still has many years left. I don't get what other people are complaining about, picking up a cb in next years draft would leave us in a place where we don't know how effective he can be immediately, and we don't even know if he will ever be going anywhere. This way we get impact immediately.

Yep, or they looked at their depth chart, and their new QB, and thought "Dear God we need him."

2 is too high for almost any trade in the era of NFL, but it makes the secondary better on paper at least.

That doesn't make any sense how is it high? The guy is 24 very athletic, physical, great in press and is a veteran that can help other young corners. There arent many 1st round picks that young you can get for a 2nd round pick

SS- Zbikowski

FS- Bethea

CB- Powers

CB- Davis

Nickle- D.J. Johnson

The secondary is looking really good to me!!! Im so excited to see Davis in action!!

I like D.J. Johnson, but that nickel back could be one of 3 people. Could also be Justin King or Josh Gordy

This is the trade I was waiting for! My gut tells me they are not through adding to the secondary either.

Looks like we may also need some depth at NT as well. Not sure if Nevis or Moala could not be shipped off

for players that fit this thing better. At least Moala because I like Nevis

    • Im not certain if there will even be any room for Pierce bc the 4th and 5th receivers need to have special teams ability. I think AD will show enough to gain the Colts confidence. You know Dulin will be there. So from there you're competing with Gould and whoever else. You know Gould plays special teams.  Going to be interesting what they have in mind.
    • Latu's addition also tells me that Gus is not doggedly adhering to his historical "Cover-3 Leo" defense.  Latu is not a Leo.  He's not the undersized wide-9 OLB type playing in a 4-3.  He's a bona fide 4-3 DE.  I'm expecting Gus to even further move away from his historical base defense.  (I never believed that he was going to cling to it come h3ll or high water.  That his coverages last year were simplified perforce, due to the inexperience of the guys he had on the field.)  I'm excited to see what we look like defensively with the new guys inserted.
    • It's about who else is Free Agents vs cap space, propensity to pay our own, can we find better 2-way(run-pass) production for less, is it worth a gamble? Fact that we have the top defensive player on our board from the draft under cheap contract, makes it easier to offset funds. Like I said we can almost have 4 DEs with the funds paid to Bosa by himself. The fact that all I hear from the Colts is glowing reviews about him.   In my opinion the Colts brought Latu in to start opposite of Paye, in the long term. Ebukam will be 31 when he's due for a new contract in 2026.     Just because we exercise the option, doesn't mean we can't work on an extension if his trajectory shows continued growth.     Good thing is we will know in a few hours.
    • Of course and with his, these are just 19-20 year old kids... who wants to be accountable for everything they did at that age.  AD will forever remember that Ballard passed on him as if he didn’t care if he got him or the next guy.  Ballard throwing a cussing rant that got some extra playtime was Mandatory. In the end though it all falls on Mitchell to live a good life and work hard.
    • Lenny Moore as well- yet Indy Fans don’t even put him on the list of Best Colts Running Backs. Some of his NFL TD Records were just broken in the past few years, after standing since the 1960s.
