It’s interesting— I think Steichen does some of his best play calling on third and short or fourth and short. He’s very aggressive, unafraid to throw it, whereas a lot of coaches run it up the middle. But in the course of a game he’s more conservative than I expected, which is likely due to the myriad of reasons already brought up. I just love that no one knows what he’ll call in short yardage situations. That’s just my read, I could be wrong.

I don't think there will be many, if any better options for backup QB.   We were very lucky to have Minshew along with AR.  Hopefully he isn't needed next season but it is a great insurance policy.

Which is why so many fail.  Steichen I am not sure to what extent he's an innovator, meaning leading new trends for the league.  Those guys are really rare.  But it doesn't matter for now when he's winning in year one.  You can go a long ways just being up to speed on trends and being smart enough to incorporate them and adjust them to fit your people.  So I'm very happy with him thus far.

Fow a rookie head coach, I am happy with Steichen.   He will grow as the roster changes and he gets more comfortable.  To be fighting for a playoff spot in the last week of the season with a backup QB is great,

We signed him because he's a good backup, and that's been reinforced this season. But we also signed him before the draft, so it's possible that the team wants a backup that is more similar to Richardson.

 

We could do a lot worse than Minshew, but there's an argument for going in a different direction.

He got taken out by the spotter, so he was definitely checked during the game. He obviously cleared that evaluation, and went back in. But we've seen that happen, and then the guy shows up with symptoms the next day. I just thought it was something to keep an eye on.

Colts have a lot of guys on this team who have experienced win and in from 18 and 20. They had to beat Jags in 20. Taylor and Pittman experienced that. Minshew has experienced  a SB. A bunch of our defensive guys were part of those teams in 18 and 20. Buckner has been to a SB. Hopefully colts can lean into that experience Saturday night. Texans lack that on their roster. Stroud has played in some big college games though.

 

Somrone on JMV said they don’t think Texans played any big games under the lights. How will the playoff atmosphere affect a young team with really no experience. Going to be fascinating to see.

It was confusing because the refs didn't know what they were doing. They took about 20 seconds to stop the clock, then charged the Raiders with a 10 second run off because they thought it was a Raiders player being taken out. Once they realized it was a Colts player being taken out, they put the time and the run off back on the clock.

I noticed Sermon has come in a been the bruiser late in games for us. Hopefully if the Colts have a lead late in the game they give him some snaps. Love the way he runs it wears down the DL.

To be fair.  Stroud played in the National Championship game last yr and was fantastic.  That was a bigger atmosphere than this upcoming game     But I get your point

Had a feeling Winfree would join 53, he is out of call ups and NOW Ethan Fernea is as well so needed to elevate one of those and Winfree more a pure WR while Ethan more gadget slot ala Mckenzie. 

 

Tomlinson the blocking TE we have been lacking so could be pulled up this week if up to speed but likely playoff game.

Your overall point still stands but he played in the semifinals not the national title game last year.  Still your main point stands.  Just pointing that out before someone tries to over look your good point due to a simple brain fart.

I don’t worry about betting lines but not shocked.  Most people that arent Colts fans are going to side with the Texans because of Stroud alone.
