I could see it. He usually does that. I remember being puzzled as to who the heck T.Y. Hilton was when we got him. Difference is I'm much more into the draft process than I've ever been so It'd be hard for me to be surprised by a pick. It'd have to be a guy I never thought was on our radar.

Ulrick John was a "who?" last year. As a 7th rounder though, big deal.

He cant really pick anyone I haven't heard of, but I worry about him reaching, or picking a player who was completely unexpected like when we drafted Thornton and Holmes in the 3rd and 4th. We could have probably gotten Holmes in the 5th.

Holmes was one of the top centers and you have no clue when he would have gone.

I'm going by projections man. We got him in the 4th, and all I'm saying is he would probably have been there in the 5th. He was considered week and had injury concerns from what I remember.

I remember last year some guy was complaining because we passed up someone he liked. He kept saying - that's why we won't win.

He didn't seem to understand that every other team in the league passed on the same guy - twice!

So, yeah, there will be people saying "who?"

Last year, a lot of people were saying "who?" when it came to Mewhort, and he turned out pretty well.  Just because the fans don't know a certain player or he isn't a big name, doesn't mean it will be a disappointing pick

You'll be able to tell the "who?" pick if we do that mock draft game again this year. I remember last draft someone made this mock draft game where everyone would put down like 3 possible selections for each round and you get points based on if you named a prospect and if you got the round right. Don't remember seeing any lists that had Mewhort on them. I saw Billy Turner and Gabe Jackon on a few, but Mewhort wasn't on anyone's radar lol. One guy I think had Newsome on his list, and he ended up being the guy that won.

Yeah I remember last year I really thought Gabe Jackson was a natural fit. I can remember reading about Mewhort and his NFL projection to right tackle (there was no speculation of him kicking inside) and thinking to myself "well with the investment in Cherlius Grigson probably won't be looking to use our first pick at RT" so I never really even watched him play until after the pick.

The only people who say "who?" are people who don't follow the draft....

But Grigson has shown that he prefers drafting from major universities....    So, if you don't know these players,  odds are it's on you,  and not Grigson.

I think there was plenty of speculation about him kicking inside -- when Mewhort's name was announced at the draft, he was announced as a "Guard"...    and since he was listed as a tackle before the draft,  that info could've only come from the Colts.    So, I think Indy sent a message on draft day as to where they thought he fit with the team.

I thought his name was Ty when he first drafted him

Just a few fixes:

1. Dwayne Allen went to Clemson

2. Newsome originally played for Ohio State, before transferring to Ball St.

3. A.Jax went to Western Kentucky

There's a video with Jimmy Raye on the website from last week, and he says they always envisioned Mewhort as a guard with position flexibility.

Oh you're going by projections, well then that is so much better.  You still have no idea where Holmes might have gone if the Colts had not picked him in the 4th round, complete speculation.

    • Notices of posts on this thread kept popping up. I knew there was no way the conversation was still about TB and the roast…. so I literally just hopped in here to see where the conversation veered off to. Wow, what a tangent!  Might be one of the best I’ve seen on the forum
    • We’ve had many long time posters who’ve gone MIA…    I’d like to imagine he retired from many years of teaching and is enjoying the quiet life on a beach somewhere.    @southwest1 always posted interesting topics as well that I miss reading.
    • Does anybody know what happened to or became of Princeton? I used to enjoy his "everything will be alright" comment.
    • Wilt dominated Bill Russell when they played, what Boston fans don't comprehend for some reason is, the Celtics had all the best players on their team other than players like West, Baylor, and Robertson. Outside of that the league had a bunch of MEH players back then except on Boston. Boston had Cousy, Havlicek, Sam Jones, Tom Heinsohn, and KC Jones besides Russell. Russell could get away with playing a bad game on occasion because Havlicek or Sam Jones or even Heinsohn could go for 25 and they would still win. Cousy wasn't a great shooter but was a great Assist guy and would just run that team like a great QB does.   Bill Simmons has Bill Russell as the 2nd greatest player ever, that is what ruins his list and I agree with a lot of his rankings. Loved his book and love his knowledge on ranking players but his Russell ranking is simply because he is from Boston. No way in hell is Bill Russell the 2nd greatest player of all-time. He had too many offensive deficiencies to be that. To me Larry Bird was the better player compared to Bill Russell.    Simmons top 10 updated: 1. Michael Jordan 2. Bill Russell 3. LeBron James 4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 5. Magic Johnson 6. Larry Bird 7. Wilt Chamberlain  8. Tim Duncan 9. Kobe Bryant  10. Jerry West   Mine is: 1. Michael Jordan (we agree)   2. Magic Johnson   3. LeBron James (we agree)   4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (we agree)   5. Kobe Bryant   6. Larry Bird (we agree)   7. Wilt Chamberlain (we agree)   8. Steph Curry - Bill has Curry 15th.   9. Shaq O'Neal - Bill has Shaq 13th.   10. Bill Russell - yes, he makes my top 10, great defensive player, great rebounder, a good scorer but not a dominant scorer and a winner. His 11 championships can be viewed in a lot of different ways compared to how players won theirs in the 80's-up until now. 11 is 11 though so a top 10 list without him would not like right.   He had West and Duncan in his top 10 - I don't. I have Shaq and Curry instead. To me Shaq was more dominant at his peak than Duncan was, and Curry changed the game with his 3-point shooting. Shaq is the only player in NBA history other than Michael Jordan to win 3 straight Finals MVP's (2000-2002), he has to be top 10. I never thought I would see a better shooter than Reggie Miller, then Steph entered the building. Steph also does have 4 championships, a Finals MVP, and 2 League MVP's + he has the most 3 pointers made in NBA history.
