Ed Reed hires an agent... Further Indy speculation.

Recommended Posts

Free agent Ed Reed has hired an agent.

Reed isn't planning to self-negotiate a sweetheart deal with the Ravens. Per CBS' Jason La Canfora, there's a "good chance he moves on." Indianapolis and New England are the future Hall-of-Famer's most likely suitors. A source has also told Pro Football Talk that the 49ers are in play. They're in the market for a free safety with free agent Dashon Goldson expected to move on.

It's all just media guessing, gossip and speculation. In reality, they probably have zero idea who the colts are interested in.

This is true, and that'll give them the opportunity to show us their 'shocked' face when the announce who we really sign.

I suppose we're going display a bit of that also.

If we get Ed Reed and Jennings (as some have reported) that makes me think Grigson is trying to win now by grabbing these older vets.  That's a good thing.

My ideal scenario is that we land both Ed Reed and Dashon Goldson :) so when Ed Reed leaves, Goldson takes over, haha

Yup.

He didn't just hire any agent, he hired Reggie Wayne's agent. Looks like a sign to me.

NO. hes washed up. lets draft a young guy hungry to start.

How do you figure he is washed up?

Ed Reed has had more INT'S in the last 3 years then any other player in the NFL. Do I think he is the old Ed Reed no. But do QB's still fear throwing it in his direction yes they do. Reed would be a great leader on this team and would help the developement of our DB"s....

Looks like the 49ers might be after him now!

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports "some around the league" expect the 49ers to make a push for free agent Ed Reed.

Profootballtalk alluded to the same thing on Monday. The 49ers anticipate losing Dashon Goldson, and Reed would be an elderly if still effective fallback plan. After trading for Anquan Boldin, San Francisco could wind up swiping two veterans from the team they were defeated by in Super Bowl 47. Reed is going on age 35. He intercepted five passes and broke up 17 across 20 games last season.

True, the age of Reed might not make sense for us in the end but I am such a fan I can't help it. :panic:

At least do not go to the Pats.

I like him too, but I just don't see him as a good fit since him and Bethea play the same position. If we could have got Reed 5 yrs. ago then I would have been jumping up in joy.

Yep, it's arguably the deepest position in the draft.

Then the Colts should spend money on expensive FAs in positions of real need. SS wasn't a bright spot on the team last year but its not as much of a need compared to other positions. Draft a SS early and develop him.

Draft a WR, SS, RB, CB. Not necessarily in that order.

I'm hoping Shamarko Thomas falls to us in the 3rd. Guy is almost an exact copy of Bob Sanders, only he doesn't have all the health issues.

    • Trade him? He just handed him a nice extension.
    • Yes, thanks, you’re right. When the Panthers traded to get the 1 is when Ballard said he didn’t have all the information to make the trade. That’s strange to me.  “Didn’t want to make a blind decision without all the information,” Ballard told reporters Monday. “I know for people, they might not understand that. But I think history kind of tells you that when you do that, you better know what you’re getting. And we weren’t quite ready to do that at that time. And then we feel like there’s enough depth in the draft that we were gonna be okay.”   This was in late March. Ballard had a chance to get the 1 and use it to take Stroud not Young. I think it’s strange he said he didn’t move up to 1 because it would have been a “blind decision.” Why would it be a blind decision in March? Why wouldn’t you know what you’re getting? You’re getting whoever you want if you get the 1. It didn’t happen, but Ballard could have recognized that Stroud was going to be superior, could have made the trade and could have drafted him. Ballard admits it never occurred to him to attempt the trade because it would be a “blind decision.”
    • I cringed after seeing the way his leg bent underneath him to the point of him sitting down on it. Buckner is one tough dude and to see him needing help to get off the field is when I knew he was going to be out for a while.
    • He probably felt confident Bowers would still be on the board at 15 once he made it past NYJ at 11.  He could've been trading up with other teams to move up to get Brock Bowers, but unfortunately, the Raiders had their eyes set on him and took him at 13.
    • Not now...   Let the year play out. Maybe at the end of the season...
