Observations from watching the NFL Replay

Listened to the game on the radio, so watched it for the first time tonight.

1. Gotta love the "Discount Double-Chuck" from Brown.

2. I don't think that last time out by the Packers was simply a mistake by them. I think the Colts showing a blitz threw them off guard and they couldn't figure out the protection. Good call by the defense there.

3. Did anyone catch the coach just throwing the clipboard and all the papers on the game winning TD? I couldn't stop laughing. Papers all over the field.

4. Cory should be always be mic'd up. I don't even mean just during games. I mean, like, always.

5. Yeah, that was a bad PI call in our favor. Like really bad.

6. NFL Network isn't even trying to make these suspenseful. Every time they go to commercial they tease the next segment of coverage by showing the next score. Not like anyone watching these doesn't know how the game turns out, but they could at least come up with something other than "stay tuned to watch the Packers/Colts score another touchdown" while showing that touchdown.

7. I actually didn't realize Fleener had 2 catches on the game winning drive. All I could remember was Luck-to-Wayne, Luck-to-Wayne, Luck-to-Wayne...

8. The pass protection can be a bit inconsistent at times, but when it's good, it's really good.

Great Post! I love the enthusiasm and heart the Colts showed in that game...I truly hope the whole team can carry that on throughout the entire season...Cory is a huge step in the right direction to build the monster on D and you've gotta love Luck even more with what he said about the first down he ran for just before that amazing Wayne reaching TD...Wow, just Wow...I've still got goose bumps from this game...Keep it up Colts, Keep it going all the way to the SB this year.

#1- I LOVED it!

#3- That was pretty funny.

I agree completely with No. 4.

I watched as much as I could last night too. One thing I noticed, on GB's second scoring drive. There has been a lot of ridicule of Zbikowski. Although the Packers scored on this drive, he did shut down a TD pass in the endzone. I'm not saying he played great or anything, but he did bust up that play. I think there were some others, but I'm not a Zib lover, or hater. Just trying to see what makes him good/or bad. I hadn't heard any mention of him shutting that play down, so I thought I'd bring it up. Of course Packers eventually scored, but they had to run another play to do it.....thoughts?

That's part of the reason I revised my thoughts on Zbikowski after rewatching the game. He wasn't really a problem, aside from the Alex Green run.

I thought it was a pretty poorly called game by the officials, especially with the PI. In addition to the ones mentioned, I thought the one against Vaughn was * (despite the fact that the announcer said "that's a legit call"). Vaughn got hit in the back by the ball while closing on the WR. Doesn't matter that he wasn't looking back if he didn't hit the WR before the pass got there. He did contact the guy eventually, but I believe the pass had already struck him. Also, I thought the horse collar on Bethea was wrong. Bethea had his hand on the back of the shoulder pad and then tripped over his own feet. It didn't look to me like he jerked the player back, but I'm sure that the ref was unsure of what happened when Bethea tripped...

Did anyone else notice that our CBs played really really well? I mean how many times did Rogers either have to run because everyone was covered or had to just throw it away? That's what surprised me most of all....

Yep everyone including myself thought they were gonna get picked on, they played great, especially in the 2nd half. I like that Vaughn kid, he plays hard even if he got a few penalties.

    • I really do think we will be bringing in Diggs. Dogs has just kept himself inserted in Colts news.     Probably not Simmons though.     Definitely think we will bring in a vet RB, sometime from now to beginning of camp.     With how the draft played out I see a vet CB as well to battle for that 4th outside spot.
    • A. Rich. has a lot to work with this year.  Ballard did a real stomp down job!
    • I haven’t been on the board in awhile but same thoughts here. I didn’t think he’d get out of the top ten.
    • A+   Laiatu Latu - The kinda guy I've been clamouring for for a long time now and specifically the guy I hoped we'd get this draft. I'm SUPER excited about this pick. If Latu turns into our Hendrickson/Crossby/Bosa the rest of the players in this draft can bust and it would still be A+ in my opinion. Technician without equal and still athletic. There's just so much to love about this guy. Steal #1.   Adonai Mitchell - Steal #2. Ballard stood tall on the hill defending this guy and reportedly Steichen and Wayne have been pounding the table for this guy for some time... and they got him AFTER a trade back? Bruh! Steal! Super athletic and has beat up on some of the top CBs in this draft.   Matt Goncalves - We've needed to upgrade our OL depth and Goncalves can play all over the line. Solid pick!   Tanor Bortolini - Quite possibly our future OC. Super athletic - broke Jason Kelce's 3-cone record at the combine. Love this pick!   Anthony Gould - This could potentially turn out to be a genius move by Ballard & Co. The new return rules means having a good returner is extra important and Gould is likely one of the best in the draft! We also needed a good backup behind Downs since McKenzie left.   Jaylon Carlies - After last season I felt like we needed to upgrade our coverage ability at the LB position. This is a move to do just that. Love it!   Jaylin Simpson - We needed to at least add competition at the FS spot. With us picking Simpson and last years 5th rounder Daniel Scott returning (who Ballard seems really excited about), we seem to be set with young talent there. Maybe we add a vet? Like this pick.   Micah Abraham - Don't know much about him, but he has the pedigree. Doesn't fit Ballard's typical athletic profile, so they must have seen something on tape they REALLY like.   Jonah Laulu - The Colts brought him in for a top 30 visit and he fits their athletic profile. Project. Solid pick in the 7th.
    • You are correct jvan1973, and I missed it because you spelled Tanor's name wrong, but you still get 4 points. Unfortunately, your total was 4.5 so Archer still wins! Wow, that was closer than I thought and getting three picks right was amazing!
