Signed RB Mewelde Moore

I think he will be used more as a KR/PR than a RB. Though if you look at his accomplishments on Wiki, there are some impressive feats on there.

Just a few of them:

  • Holds Vikings record with a 10.5-yard career punt return average.
  • One of only two players in team history (David Palmer) to have 2 career punt return TDs.
  • Owns 2 of the 10 longest punt returns in team history with his pair of 71-yard TDs.
  • The Vikings are 4–0 in games when Moore runs for 100+ yards.

Rotoworld about him:

Colts signed RB Mewelde Moore and waived QB David Legree.

Purely a passing-down specialist entering his age-30 season, Moore averaged an impressive 7.1 yards on 22 carries and 9.5 yards on 11 catches under new Colts OC Bruce Arians in Pittsburgh last year. The signing suggests Arians is not convinced Donald Brown can handle pass-protection duties on third downs. Legree was undrafted out of Hampton University.

Carried the ball 22 times for 147 yards

He's surprisingly clutch. Don't let those stats fool you. Whenever I saw him play with the Steelers last year, or even the Vikings several years ago, he would always get big gains and get first downs when it's 3rd down. Glad to have him!

This is a pretty interesting signing. Although we do not have a stand out back we are pretty deep at RB. High hopes for Donald this year, Carter showed some promise last year, Ballard has had a lot of praise so far this off season. I wonder who will be getting the axe because I doubt we will go into the season with 4 rb's.

I don't think I've ever heard a running back described as being "clutch" before.

Kevin Faulk was another one where the term was used loosely as well, the key common element being they come up big on 3rd downs when the team needs a key first down.

There's a first for everything! In all seriousness, every time I see him, he's either getting a key 1st down or a big run or catch n run.

We had a great RB for pass protection, receiving, and a decent runner. Joe Addai. I know... injuries...

I still think he's an upgrade over Moore.

If we only carry 3 RBs, who are they? Brown, Carter, Ballard seem to have the best shots.

Agreed. I would think that if we're going to carry a 4th, it's going to be Evans, because we like what he might be able to do if given a chance. But I think, barring injury, the three you list are essentially locks.

In the video interview on Colts.com with Bruce Arians, he sounded like he thinks Ballard has work to do with regard to pass blocking, and I'm sure he does. But he sounded very positive about his ability to make plays with the ball, even comparing him to Edge (who Arians would have been around for a couple years here).

............I hated losing Addai as well. He was the one cut that I scratched my head over. I can only assume that his nagging injuries were too big of a question mark for the new management.

addai's contract, lack of production, and injuries probably what lead to him being cut

Maybe we have a running back thats not healthy or someone is about to be cut , I dont get the signing, we all ready have guys that can return Punts and Kicks it probably just means someone isn't healthy or wont be healthy for a while or a cut is about to be made I think, because we have 6 running backs now

We have too many of every position. The roster is at 90. This is probably as simple as Arians liked him, and the quarterback didn't stand a snowball's chance in tarnation of even making the first cut. In the meantime, if Moore can rub off on the young back's, particularly with regard to pass blocking, then even if he doesn't make the team, he has left a contribution behind. But he probably does have a decent shot of making the final roster, simply because of his familiarity with Arians' system and his ability on third down.

*sigh* we need an Adrian Peterson or a Arian Foster. The running game has always been average.

I beg to differ our running game hasn't always been average. It became average after edge left and even before him Marshall Faulk and heck before that there was Dickerson albeit it that it was at the end of his career but Faulk and James are hardly average

To have a good running game your offensive line does in fact have to create holes. meaning they have to have the brute strength and technique to do so, a running back is only as good as there offensive line....well unless your Barry Sanders and your moves have moves lol, Thats why I would like Hicks to get some time at Guard so he can prove he can play, theirs no question the strength and physicality is their, his technique while not perfect isnt bad in my opinion after watching him, I just dont think Reitz has the strength, I think Hicks next to Satele would make for one very physical offensive line
