Pierce is back at practice. Pittman is not practicing. -

I will end this once and for all. Let us say our GM was Grigson and not Ballard during this current lack of success over the last 8 years. Would people still be making excuses for his below 500 record? Just a thought. I get it. Ballard seems like a nice guy and people and media around here seem to love him. I have been out on him for years. Even if Richardson proves he is the guy at the end of the year. I really dont see what value Ballard brings to the table. This defense is his creation and it needs to take a new direction and new leadership in its construction. Sure, he has had success drafting on the offensive side of the ball but his drafting on defense has actually been horrendous if you look at it objectively. If you were to look at his most successful acquisitions on defense, excluding Leonard. They have been Buckner, Moore and Stewart a late pick. Thats quite disturbing. All of his early picks have not amounted to anything and you could even throw in Speed and Franklin but once again, they are late picks. Cross is showing promise but it is early. In order for any defense and/or offense to successful, you have to hit on some of those early picks. They are the guys that are graded the highest and that is how you build your team. If Richardson is able to stay healthy and show he is that guy. This team still needs to address the defense in a big way at the end of the year. Fire Gus and scrap this defensive scheme. From what I recall about Ballard, he is suppose to have expertise in building this defense from his days with the Bears and I guess the Chiefs. He has been a failure in this respect, so I am in favor of retaining Steichen, as I believe he is a wizard and will improve in making coaching decisions. Ballard has had his day and time to move on no matter what happens on the offensive side of the ball. Take the defense in a totally different direction. I want to see a coach who will come in and construct the defense based on the players. When Ballard came in, he scrapped the scheme and drafted players to fit his scheme and did the opposite of what I think a good GM does. -

JT ankle got rolled up on. Any player would of gotten hurt with how that happened. -

Move Buckner, Davis, Stewart to three down line man in a 3-4. Move Paye and Latu and to outside linebacker and have Speed and Franklin play inside. I think we can keep Cross as he is flourishing and Blackmon can also stay. Now spend the next 2 first picks on outside corner or hunt in free agency. Paye has no bend and I think he could play standing up. Latu reminds me of Watt in Pittsburgh. -
True, but JTs injury issue was part of the past discussions about contract. In October 2024, the concerns some had about that have come to fruition. Another ankle injury gives some support for those who want to argue, "I told you so". I stayed out of those discussions. IMO, even though he is a RB, and probably just carrier of the FB compared to other RBs, he is one of the few big play threats the team had at the time (disappointingly a function of roster construction but that's a different discussion). I never thought the contract was excessive given that reality, and it doesn't burden the team with inabilities to make other decisions. I don't think the contract is a big deal even if JTs availability is sporadic like some expected.
