Colts @ Ravens post game thread

Good:

Zach Moss has played really well

Anyone want to complain about the contract Ballard gave Gay now?

Brents is going to be a player.  I thought he wasn’t ready.  Well today said otherwise and I was wrong

The secondary was much better in general

The defense played well but has to figure it out in the fourth quarter.  I am not sure they are wearing down or what

Minshew (he will make both lists).  He played well for a backup QB but looked like a backup QB and showed his limitations

oline run blocking, Nelson had a big game in general

Pittman and Downs.  Some might not call Pittman a one but he’s sure good.  Extend the man

The deep ball finally arrived to this offense shame they only hit one

EJ Speed, he might not grade well but he makes big plays, although he got away with one at the end of OT but the Racens got away with one Pittman earlier in the game so it balances out

Overall the Colts went toe to toe with maybe the best team they will play all year on the road with a back up QB, back up running back, and back up center.  For a young team that’s still finding their way you have to be happy with that regardless of the end result

Bad:

Minshew did a horrible job identifying things pre play and without Kelly (for those that say they don’t see the value in him) the Ravens had way too many free rusher on pass and run plays due to not being identified (which is what Kelly does) and if blew up too many plays that was potentially the difference in the game

Pierce had a monster drop late in regulation

The Colts didn’t score much off turnovers.  Turnovers are nice but if you don’t score on them they don’t help you much

Shane’s play calling on their own one was too aggressive.  Run on first or second down to get yourself a little room.  It had been there all day

Braden Smith did not have a good day with two big false starts and missed block on a sack

containing Jackson, that’s had for any unit but the Colts were extra bad at it

What a bad decision by McKenzie on that punt

Where were the tightends?  Olgetree has one catch and I think Granson had a couple of targets but that was it

Way too many missed tackles

Jay Feely.  I am not sure he understands football and needs to not call another football game again.  Go for it on 4th and 7 in the first quarter at mid field?  Kick a 67 yard field goal at the end of the game in bad weather and give the Ravens a chance at a return?  Constantly saying teams were in field goal range when they were 10 yards beyond the line to get too line, including the drive tucker came up short on and the drive in OT when the Ravens punted

Bonus point

At least the Colts aren’t the other horse team in the league, giving up 70 to another NFL team.  Yikes…

As much as I've defended Pierce, that drop was disappointing.  Pittman makes those catches.

As he did in overtime.  I know some may not call Pittman a true number one but he’s by far the Colts number one WR and their go to guy.  Extend the man.

Today's performance by Moss us just one more reason why u don't extend  Taylor. If the Oline plays well, Moss will perform.  Taylor's hold out will go down as a move that will cost him millions. Good to c  some players that Ballard has drafted recently step up. Nelson looks to be back and Pierce just needs a qb who can get him the ball. He and Richardson will get there. Speed and Frankin need to be starting.

You mean like the pass the Minshew dropped into his hands on the goalline and he even had caught until he let the defender rip it away?

Speed and Franklin DO start.

One thing for sure this team is much better then people give us credit for. We have a easy schedule we could make some noise. A win next week and going 3-1 the first quarter would be remarkable.

Moss is going to wear down. We need to give him relief. Taylor and moss will be a good backfield.

It would be but the Rams are playing much better than people thought.  Next week should be fun to watch.

Stafford is getting the ball out very fast. It’s going to be hard to get pressure on him.

And Donald is a game wrecker in the middle which is where the Colts like to run the bulk of their offense.  I will say Richardson and read option could be effective vs him next week.

We sure did take the long road to get there.

I think this would have been a much different game with Richardson. Wouldn’t have needed OT.

With Houston beating Jacksonville we’re suddenly back on even footing in the division.

Just in case anyone was wondering.

Will these wins make Taylor want to stick around?

There was a clip at the game of him on the sidelines cheering the Moss TD, signs continue to point to his return.  Notice you haven’t heard anything from his agent in the past couple of weeks.  I think he finally understands what he wants just isn’t there right now and his only chance to get it is to play.

Wait he was at the game?

    • Because a person who is accurately tuned into the forum would know that the laugh was commentary about the entire JT saga and how some were saying that you should not pay a RB because they get injured, and the laugh not just some adolescent giggle over an isolated thumb injury.  And here he is injured after the 4th game or so?  Tuned in folks wouldn't carry on about it.
    • This exactly. Our season has been over since week 5 and we are 6-5 and in the hunt for the playoffs. These season has been pleasing except for the elephant in the room. But everyone thought our roster was complete hot dog water and we were gonna be the laughing stock of the year. That's not been the case..
    • As a matter of discussing hypotheticals and possibilities, you have to speculate facts then form opinions to have a discussion.  But the reader has to know what facts we know and what we don't know.  If you came to this forum only allowed to speak to about actual facts as they are, nobody would ever know enough about the Colts to actually have much to say.      What I said was probably in response to somebody else implying my opinion was not valid because I did not support it with a Link.   As a the topic of JT, there are two layers here that folks are blending into one.     There was a period of time when JT said that he wanted to be traded.  At that point I expressed an opinion about what his trade value would be given the fact that he wanted a new contract with any team...and...the other team thinking JT would not return to the Colts.  I said I'd take two 4th rounders, when everybody else said that he was a good enough player to command a 2nd or a 1st.  The 2 4th rounders was not reflective of JT as a talent, but reflective of the stalemate situation where it seemed the Colts would have to sort of dump him because of JTs stubbornness.  Part of that stubbornness was based upon the reports (rumors) that he wanted $18m per year and the wide spread indications that JT was exaggerating an injury to get out of Indy.  If all of that was true, then certain speculative discussions can spiral away from that centerpiece.  During that time, I never expressed an attitude that losing JT would be a great loss.  I didn't cry about not having him on the Colts.   Since I don't know what the poster is referring to when asked why he thinks I "dislike" JT, I can only assume its because of that.   Do you follow so far?   Then out of nowhere, its announced that JT has signed a contract for $14m.  So the idea that JT was being stubborn in not wanting to play for Indy, wanting $18m per year, and exaggerating an injury were pretty much debunked.....Therefore, all speculative discussions that were based upon those negative reports about JTs attitude disappear instantly.  They no longer exist because the basis was never true to begin with.   Now we have a guy who wasn't exaggerating his injury, and was fine with playing for the Colts.  I that case don't have an issue with $14m for JT (negotiating with him trying to get him back to the club when he "had a bad attitude" is different).  And if you ever wanted to research my comments, I never said anything about how many millions of dollars he should be paid.  As a matter of practice, I never do that about any player because my sense of compensation or price with just about anything does not seem to reflect what others might pay for it...and I'm not just talking about football.    As a general rule though I'd say that teams should not get into a bidding war paying top dollar to retain non impact or nonballhandling positions.
    • Oh, I agree. Although I still get frustrated with several aspects of this team, overall, I'm somewhat pleased that we are 6-5 and trending in the right direction in many ways. My point was, that even with our schedule, I just don't feel very confidant that the playoffs are likely.
    • Eh I’d rather we put the money towards other areas of need. Although if the price is right I’d like to have him, I just don’t think he’ll take what we want to pay.
