I get that. The older guy is at his ceiling where the younger guy that can develop can go beyond the ceiling of the older guy. Yes, that's a consideration. On the flip side, that maturity also mean there may be less chance that the NFL overwhelms the older guy. Take Brock Purdy. He's playing in the NFL the exact same way he played at ISU for three years. He stepped right in and continued to do what he always did, and the new level of competition hasn't phased him. So if you could get 26 year old Bennett to play against NFL defenses the same way he did against SEC defenses because his maturity doesn't allow it to phase him, that's where age is actually an advantage. The key is that his combine numbers show that there is actually physical substance there and its not just a college guy playing well against college defenses. His numbers translate to the NFL. Personally, I think Levis and Hooker probably need a little more work on their game and mechanics than Bennett does.

Here's my question. What's stopping the Ravens from matching whatever contract Lamar agrees to with another team? Why is a team going to disrupt their draft process by working out a deal with Lamar that's going to be matched by the Ravens anyway? It's a waste of time and resources. Am I missing something?

That's OK. My issue is not with him taking his additional eligibility or not. I am just saying you have to take into account what it means about his current level of play and what it means for his room for improvement. I'm not downplaying his experience. His experience is one of his biggest attributes and one of the most signficant reasons he's as good in college as he is. Of course there is no guarantee for anything. We need to think probabilistically. What's more likely? How much more likely? I don't know if the difference is 5 or 6 rounds. I guess we will see in about 1 month time. Could be 2 or 3... who knows? Agreed on Bennett's best chance. And I would be good with the Colts spending a day 3 pick on him.

This why I question these reports of players who make big rising and falling moves each draft season. It seems like there are plenty of pseudo media types that take sides and try to drive the market for their favorite players and the players they don't like. And I also think the more legitimate media companies also play up the "debate pot stirring" where they purposely start to ride one horse up and another horse down for the drama and clicks it generates. So its not always about these quasi media types, its also about the Mortensen's and Shefty's dipping into that debate-cueing during the otherwise quiet period before the draft.

As far as the age thing is concerned, as Doug pointed out there are other QB's that are older like Hooker and Levis as well. A lot of this has to do with getting the additional year of eligibility for covid for all NCAA athletes not just football players. I believe Hooker and Bennett took the additional year of eligibility. I'm not sure about Levis. I think Bennett understand the QB position. He's mentioned that in interviews. Until Todd Monken came along, he said he really didn't understand football. Now he does. I'm sure you know that Monken is now the OC for the Ravens (formerly of the GA Bulldogs). He understands how offenses are put together. Warner mentioned that too. He said "Bennett is making alot of 2nd level throws" "Thats whats necessary to succeed in the NFL." And yes based on what was shown in college, Bennett is the 3rd best prospect in this draft. Warner also gave the condition of "Will this translate to the NFL, I don't know". I wouldn't down play his experience and how he came to understand how to run an offense. Will Young and Stroud continue to grow ? You're guess is as good as mine. Maybe they stay where they are. There's plenty of 1st round picks at 21 years of age that never continue to grow. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe in a million years that the Colts will draft Bennett. I just took issue with the discussion that Young was 5 or 6 rounds better than Bennett. I do not believe that. Bennetts best shot at starting is to be drafted as a back up and get his chance to start once the starter gets injured. This is exactly what happened with Purdy and Trey Lance. Now Purdy is seen as the starter for the 49ers.
