I wanted to tweet to Irsay:

"yea, and.... ?"

like, quit stating the obvious dude. there's nothing to gain anymore by playing poker.

Don't you think that's what they're working on right now? I suspect they'll have the contract hammered out in another week. There's no hurry to sign him any earlier than the draft, is there?

Nicely written CM51!!! Short,Succinct, Spectacularly Funny IMO...[Grasshopper Indeed: David Karadine "Kung Fu" TV reference.]

Thank you oh wise and esteemed friend

That was very kind of you to say CM51, but you are the true genius that made me laugh pretty hard there. Let no one say you aren't clever, smart, & funny my friend. If they do, this Little Grasshopper will ENLIGHTEN them okay...LOL CM51!!!

I realize that my post will show how naive I am; but the shoe fits, so I will wear it.

It seems that many of you are anxious to have Luck signed prior to the draft.

Now, I wasn't a football fan when Peyton was drafted. At the time, I thought the game was rather silly. :hide:

So, I am wondering . . . was Peyton signed prior to the draft? Also, was there this much agnst among fans as to whether the Colts would draft Manning or Leaf?

No he wasnt. The team never told the media who they were drafting until the pick was handed in

I am glad you asked. I was wondering the same thing.

BAHAHA!!! Perfect! You are right my friend, this deal is sealed. Irsay says it w/o saying it (like he usually does) "easy 2c why the #1 pick n this Stanford phenom has been synonymous with each other 4over 2 yrs" ...the 2 yr period he refers to includes this year. Now any doubters left can sleep well tonight :D

Manning wasn't signed or named until the day of the draft, just like now there was the big question of Manning or Leaf. There were quite a few in the FO pulling and thinking Leaf was the best choice and a lot of talking going on. Leaf also declined to meet with Colts or just didn't show up, don't remember which. Nothing was stated or promised for sure until draft day/ Peyton did tell Polian in interview, " You can draft me and spend 15 years winning football games, or spend 15 years of me beating your butt on the field." Thankfully they made the right choice in quarterbacks then and will again this year.

No doubt we're still picking Luck, but I think you're looking a bit too far into the "2-years" comment. I think he's basically saying "I get why everyone has been saying Luck could be a No. 1 pick." It's different that saying, "Luck would have been #1 last year and will b this year too! P.S. Abby Hat Pick coming up for naming which of the 2 QBs we didn't want. HAH!"

Yes. There was an enormous amount of fan angst. A lot of fans supported drafting Leaf (he supposedly had a much better arm than Peyton). The debate raged for weeks leading up to the draft. Guess we all know how that came out, don't we? A million-dollar arm and a 29-cent brain don't ever spell success in the NFL. Just hope that the Colts get it right again this time and draft Luck. We'll all be sitting around our computers in a few years wondering what ever happened to RG3 while Luck is hammering out a Hall of Fame career in Indy.
