PFF lovers Vontae earns highest grade ever given in playoff game

Davis was two near interceptions away from an all-time playoff performance at the cornerback position. He wasn’t downgraded once when targeted and was only dinged for a holding penalty late in the second quarter. Davis completely shut down the right side of the field. Targeted 11 times, he yielded five catches for 21 yards and added three passes defended and four stops. Davis’ grade is the highest we’ve ever given out to a cornerback in the postseason and the fifth best in the last eight seasons

Interesting note on run D

Outside linebackers Bjoern Werner and Jonathan Newsome both rank in the Top 10 at the position as run stoppers, with Run Stop Percentages (RSP) of 7.6 and 7.4, respectively. Nose tackle Josh Chapman had a +4.2 grade against the run, and was strongest  in the second-half of the season. Similarly inside linebacker D’Qwell Jackson found his best form later in the year, with a +7.2 run

Who said Newsome can't play the run.

Very nice to hear. Davis did an incredible job, as did Butler. Nice fact about Newsome as it seemed like he wasn't that great against the run, he can definitely do it all. At least Werner is stopping the run, next year will be the deciding year for him. Dqwell has been underrated this year IMO. We'll need a similar defensive effort Sunday against the Pats.

does anyone know who the dolphins got with that secound round pick we traded to them?

Jamar Taylor, CB started three games this year and was put on IR. He had 3 tackles last year. They were expecting a pick in the 30's considering how bad the Colts were at the time, instead they got a pick in the mid 50's.

the conditional 6th round pick never came to fruition for the Dolphins because Vontae missed 6 games thus played less than 65% of defensive snaps.

Looks like he wasn't IR'd until after week 16. And he started weeks 11, 12, and 16.

My friend is trying to tell me bc Vontae played 1 less game due to his concussion that Sherman is still better, despite Vontae giving up the same completions, being thrown to more, half yard less average per catch, same INTs, one TD for sherman vs none for Vontae, vontae's longest was 30 yards, sherman's 60, and more passes defensed. he just got snubbed for all pro because he's not as obnoxious as sherman

    • That’s what I’m saying.  If we have to play a back-up FS, I want to make sure he can handle coverage duties, which I think Simpson can.  If we lose something in run support (which we would with Simpson), that’s a secondary concern (pun intended).
    • Insane that the Reds have won so much over the last 10 days, and are yet still in the cellar…    De La Cruz is at least exciting! 10+ HRs and 30+ stolen bases!
    • Dolla Bill$ being paid out makes Pittman & Taylor's contracts look like camp body deals
