yeah crazy kids & their twitters...

always makes me think of a segment I heard Herm do once where he was basically screaming "DON'T HIT SEND, YOU BETTER NOT HIT THAT BUTTON, DON'T SEND!!!" when discussing what he would tell players who were on twitter a bunch...

Herm cracks me up...

Yeah I like Herm alot

I like building through youth/draft as well.

But, after this year, I expect the team will cut Thomas. And when we do, I expect/want that they'll sign a solid mid-level interior OL for quality depth. I don't want to draft an OL in 2015, because they rarely contribute to the level needed as a rookie.

So, get a solid veteran guy that can do a good job backing up Mewhort, Holmes, Thornton, who I expect to be the interior of the Colts offense for hopefully a decade to come.

Next year we need a veteran, not a rookie.... someone that can step in and deliver quality snaps.

The year after we can draft a RT as the eventual replacement to Cherilus.

Just one fan thinking ahead.... far head!

As far as thinking ahead goes, i think the mewhort pick was made to be a quality backup this year and an eventual replacement for cherilus at rt..

If you check gosder's cap hits, i think we can all agree he is highly unlikely to play out his whole contract here, considering all the young core players needed to be resigned in the near future..

Also if you look at mewhort, to me he looks like a prototypical rt..

Am I the only one that was a bit worried after watching Moncrief make his only kick return? It seemed like he kind of stopped instead of running through the contact. I am not a big fan of putting a guy back there that has no experience returning K's. I think we would be better off letting him sit right behind Reggie and soak up as much as he can as a WR. We have plenty of guys to return Kickoffs heck I'd guess at least half are touch backs anyway.

It didn't look like he had very good vision on that return either.  But I'd like to see him more then once before I make a judgement on him.  I was under the impression that he had returned kicks at some point in college but I might be wrong about that.

I looked at all his stats at Ole Miss granted not in great depth but a pretty good search.  I couldn't find any history of punt or kick returns. Had to go back to high school to find punt returns. I know his size and speed look good on paper as a KR. The thing that worried me is he seemed to stop at contact. You know what I mean instead of running through it which  could easily lead to injury.

You are right it was his first return. It is something I will be watching Saturday for sure. Brown has a pretty good leg in the dome we might not have a lot of opportunity for KR's. Hopefully they aren't kicking off a lot in order to do that they have to score. I hope we are looking at our PR's.

Any word on Nu'Keese Richardson last I saw he had a concussion. His chances are slipping away. Speaking of return specialist I am kind of interested to see Trindon Holliday for the NYG's too.  I don't think he is a lock for that team. They are very impressed with Beckham who does have a successful history as both PR and KR in college.

Nu'Keese Richardson was cut only a couple days after being signed.  His time here was extremely brief.

Either way.....  if Mewhort moves to RT then we'll need someone to replace him at LG....   so, either way,  likely 2016 is the time to draft a future replacement starting lineman....

Next year,  we'll still need a solid veteran to add quality depth,  even if it's not a starter....  so that feels like a free agent purchase...

It's these sorts of things that make me wonder if they know what they are doing.  Sign a guy, release him and sign him again all over the course of a few days?

We signed him the first time because he is a freak athlete and we could use a few extra healthy bodies to return kicks (it sounded to me like Rainey was in the driver's seat to make the team as our KR specialist until he got cut, now I am not sure if we have a clear front-runner) and spell some of our WRs if need be.  We released him because Phillip Hunt showed he was healthy after trying him out and we could use competition/depth at LB moreso than WR.  We resigned him because we lost a couple players (Adongo, Pendleton) to injury right after we released him and we can still use another body for KR/PR duty and to give some of our WRs a break.

Worst case scenario on Nu'Keese is we cut him (he is pretty much our 90th man right now) and we move on... decent scenario is if we keep him on the PS and we suffer an injury to whoever our PR/KR turns out to be or to a WR and he joins the team late in the season to serve as depth and to field punts.... very good case scenario is he shows enough to make our practice squad and can be used in practice to simulate small, explosive WRs and return men for a year or 2 and then we move on.... best case scenario is he winds up showing that his freak athleticism translates to the NFL field and he winds up becoming an elite PR for us and can be used as an explosive player in the slot -- most likely we will cut him, IMO, and it isn't like we'll be losing much, but rather we will be better off having been able to use him as a return-man to keep some other players (e.g., TY) healthy throughout preseason.

Judging solely on the first pre-season game & not attending any camps & seeing any of the new guys first hand, I am super excited about Muamba this season,

plus the reports that the QB's are liking Harrison are encouraging for the O-line making some progress

I completely agree Buck.

Too often it is hard for a player with Muamba's background to make a team. He is certainly impressing me. He still looks raw, but shows a lot of potential.

Harrison is a guy who could basically come out of nowhere and not only make the team, but start due to an injury.

I have both making the team on my projected final 53.

Loucheiz Purifoy impressed me in the first pre-season game -- he showed excellent athleticism and I think he can be an absolute stud on STs as well as a reliable backup at CB or S.

I agree.

Purifoy is another one of my sleepers to make the team. At the very least, I believe he makes the PS.

I think all they're trying to do is balance out the roster on a day by day basis so certain players and/or position groups don't get over or under worked.

If you need another WR, then sign him.    If another position becomes an issue a day or two later,  release that last guy and sign someone else to fill a more pressing need.

There is an ebb and flow to it all depending on who gets hurt and when....    I wouldn't read too much more into it than that.....

I am with you guys Muamba is going to make the final 53.

I think Harrison got a big break with Holmes going down and it could end up being a good break for the team. He is going to get a lot

time at C. He can also play LG. He started at LG in the Outback Bowl before moving to C full time. I like the kid I hope he pans out. He is someone I will have a close eye on tomorrow.

I agree about Purifoy although I wasn't as impressed with him at CB as on special teams not sure if you watched to the end but they put him back to return a punt late in the 4th terrible kick never touched it but I think he might slide in on special teams.

Guessing 6 CB's Davis Butler Toler Gordy I would give Burley the inside track to one slot then the other is up for grabs. Cox had a less than stellar game really got turned around on a route late in the 4th. I saw Price was getting a long look in the second half.

Thinking 4 S's unless someone steps up late Landry Howell Brown and Adams although Colt made a couple of plays. It will be a tough cut to 53. Dewey to PS. Then even tougher if we see someone we like.

We could end up getting a nice haul from this draft for only having 4 picks. I think Ulrich is a guy that Grig's thinks he scored with too. It is a shame he broke his ankle. That dude pulls rabbits out of his hat I will give him that.

I agree with so much of what you are saying. It is like you are reading my mind sir. :)

I thought about the possibility of 4 safety's and Dewey on the PS, but I am torn between him hitting the practice squad or actually making the team. The surprise cut at safety could be Sergio. That would cause some stir on the board. At safety I can see Landry, Howell, Anderson, and Adams, with the possibility of Dewey making the 53 - at least initially until the cut frenzy is over.

About John - I believe he had already played himself onto the second team and was our #1 backup LT. He went up the depth chart quickly, and could be a great addition to our team in future years. It is a shame that he got hurt.

From what we can see right now, Grigson has had a heck of an off-season. And most of his work might go unnoticed for a few years.

Don't forget we essentially get to keep 54 for the first 4 weeks until Mathis comes back. That is really an advantage for a punishment.

I can't wait to see what we do tomorrow. I have not seen John go on the IR yet I am wondering what they are planning to do with him. I find it difficult to get information on the guy like how bad the break was how long he is out etc.

I don't think returning kicks is his thing either.  He didn't look very natural at it at all.

Another player who has surprised me is Arthur Jones.  I knew he was a solid player, but I had been a bit under the impression that he was a product of Baltimore's defenses rather than a true stud himself.  From watching game 1 in preseason, he is an absolute beast, he is quick and strong -- I didn't see one play where he got driven back by the OL and he made a few nice moves getting pressure on the QB.  I think he'll be hands-down our best DL this year.  I also like him as he seems to be a genuinely good guy, he is well-spoken and seems to be a leader.
