Complete Colts FA List (w/Ages)

If DHB is happy with his role as a special teams gunner I'd be surprised if we don't resign him.  He has considerable value there, and while he has hands of stone as a receiver, he's an excellent blocker and can have some value in the screen game.  He's obviously never going to come anywhere close to living up to his ridiculously high draft position, but he's exactly the kind of guy you want in your 50 to 53 roster positions.

What if Pat Mac makes big money? Is it worth it for a punter with so many holes to fill? I haven't followed Pat's stats this year, but it seems he's under-performed a bit lately. Was he just a middle of the road punter this year? I know he's a good guy and good in the community, but punter would be my last priority, especially if the price tag goes up.

Hes a good punter but it doesn't stop there. How many returns has Pat saved from being a TD? Sometimes he stops the returner single handedly. Even when they make it past our whole special teams I always have faith that Pat will somehow keep them from running it back.  I think that right there is very valuable because if Pats not there to stop the returner then thats 7 quick points. That on top of him being good in the community and pinning the ball deep.... Never thought I would say this about a punter but lets resign him he is 1 of the most important people on special teams IMO.

Position/name: Age
  • Antoine Bethea: 29 - Only bring him back if it's a cheap deal.  I don't see him being re-signed though
  • Adam Vinatieri: 41 - I'm indifferent on this one.  I love Vinny for all he's done, but he's 41.  I wouldn't mind us bringing in a new kicker this offseason
  • Pat McAfee: 26 - Bring him back!!
  • RB Donald Brown: 26 - Tough decision, but I say we should bring him back.
  • WR Darrius Heyward-Bey: 26 - Bring him back only for very, very cheap.  He played well on special teams and he has good character, so I wouldn't mind seeing him back.
  • Mike McGlynn: 28 - Return if cheap, good depth
  • RB Ahmad Bradshaw: 27 - I don't think he returns
  • CB Vontae Davis: 25 - Sign him!
  • G Jeff Linkenbach: 26 - Let him go
  • CB Cassius Vaughn: 26 - Not a big fan of this guy.  I don't even like him as a depth guy.  I wouldn't re-sign him
  • LB Pat Angerer: 26 - Injury prone, but a tackling machine.  Bring him back if cheap
  • DT Aubrayo Franklin: 33 - Let him go
  • DE Fili Moala: 28 - I wasn't very impressed by him.  I wouldn't bring him back
  • LB Kavell Conner: 26 - Bring him back if cheap
  • Sergio Brown: 25 - Good special teams guy, I'd re-sign him
  • DE Ricardo Matthews: 26 - Indifferent
  • LB Lawrence Sidbury: 27 - Indifferent
  • CB Josh Gordy: 26 - I would like to see him back
  • LB Scott Lutrus: 25 - Indifferent
  • OL Joe Reitz: 26 - I wouldn't bring him back
  • LB Cam Johnson: 23 - Re-sign to a cheap deal
  • LB Justin Hickman: 28 - Re-sign if cheap
  • DT Jeris Pendleton: 30 - Let him go

I agree with every one of those!

The way Vonte Davis got toasted by Julian Edelman in the last game, I would'nt want us to overpay for his services either.

Every FA will be overpaid, if you know what I mean. The question is, who replaces that player and how much are you paying him.

Unless you get a great rookie, you're going to overpay for a FA from a different team. That's why they leave.

Vontae Davis, Pat McAfee, Donald Brown, Sergio Brown, Adam Vinatieri. <-REALLY want these guys to come back. I have a feeling Donald won't though.

On the fence with Antoine. I really like him, but he struggled at times this year and IDK what kind of money he'll be asking for. We could get someone better, for cheaper. Just not sure which way to go with Bethea.

EDIT: Also, as someone mentioned earlier I wouldn't be upset if the team re-sign DHB as a special teamer. He thrived there. But STRICTLY as a special teamer. He can't play WR in the NFL.

I could easily live with losing Pat.

Yeah he's colorful and by all means, he's a great team guy.

As a punter and kickoff specialist = average.  Those guys are a dime a dozen in this league.

Adam had one of the best years of his career.  Hard to let him walk over Pat.

At least Antoine stays healthy.  Which is a major problem for our secondary.  He is absolutely indispensable, IMO.

Also, does anyone know how much (roughly) the Colts will have in free agent spending? I heard 30+, but does anyone know for sure?

Sorry if it's already been said in this thread, haven't read through it.

36,555,700 according to Spotrac.com(http://www.spotrac.com/cap-tracker/nfl/2014/). It might be flawed because of contract provisions, which is not factored in.

I agree with almost all of your assessment, except that I have been very impressed with the little I have seen from Jeris Pendleton -- don't let his age fool you -- he is a rookie and hasn't taken a lot of beating in the NFL yet.  He seems very athletic for a big guy.

This will be the list. We have enough quantity on our team - it is time for some quality.

There's a reason only one Colt is a Pro Bowler. We need more Redding and Freeman guys (not overpaid but performing well) and less Ricky Jean-Francois and LaRon Landry (over paid, and not performing)

I agree on most except keep cam johnson

His age was the reasoning for letting him go in my analysis.  But if he is a rookie, then I'm all for it.  I was pretty impressed by him, given that he went undrafted.  The only thing that scared me off was his age

I am surprised. I still dont get this idea that Bethea is a guy that is easily replaceable. He is still the fastest man on our defense, has been nearly injury free, and is 29. He is a Colt through and through. He was kept on after the change over because he has the Colts attitude the front office is looking for. I will be shocked if he is not resigned.

Letting 3 offensive linemen go may create the same discontinuity issue. This team needs players up front who know the system and can play. Despite all those who hate MM, the guy is there and knows the calls....and is a backup center.

Letting 3 CBs go? I also dont get this. Our depth on the secondary isn't something that the team can fix overnight. Dont throw the baby out with the bathwater.

That is a great article on Jeris Pendleton -- I was very impressed with him and think he still has a lot in the tank -- I can't help but root for the guy.

In general I agree. Though I believe, that when you over 4 years are paid $22M, the time to show it is now.

My problem is, that he got injured twice this year. I want to see more consistency.

The same goes for Vontae Davis - also the reason why I'd like him to get tagged to prove himself consistently before he's signed big money over number of years.

A long term will work as long as we don't load him up on a big signing bonus or a lot of guaranteed money after the first year.

No need to franchise tag him and spend 4 million more then he's worth.

EVERYTHING depends on dollars but I would like to see these players stay.

Sergio, Gordy, Davis, Pat, Adam, Bey, Franklin, and Pendleton. There are some that are iffy depending on what a replacement would cost/upgrade or not but those guys listed I think we resign if the price is right. Davis is almost a must resign after spending a second rd pick on him last year...kinda like Brown is hard to keep because we invested so much into Trent...even though Brown fits our team better. I gotta think we make big changes to the middle of our OL...thinking we may cut Satele and Toler to save money or upgrade. If Bey is willing to take the a little more than the minimum we keep him for special teams and situational football....screens and run blocking...and depth. I used to be for cutting Adam because of his money but since he has been our best offensive player over the second half of the season..hard to cut a guy that is so valuable and consistant. Pat seems to be a stable player too and Gordy and Pendleton look to be improving. Franklin is a rotational guy...Chap should get more looks as it goes along but its hard to replace Franklins size.

I think Vontae is re-signed.

I bet Bethea is brought back on a reasonable one-year deal, at least he durable and reliable.  That is, unless Grigson can uncover a hidden gem.  With Davis and Landry making big bucks, you can't afford to have another high-salaried S.

I think Toler is sent packing and we sign a different CB.  I know injuries are part of the game, but you have to extract these little china dolls from your roster.

If he came in demanding a lot of guaranteed money I'd make him watch a tape on loop of all the times he got beat for long TD passes and ask if he still is demanding that kind of money.

And he'll answer with a tape of him and Demaryius Thomas.

But I get your point. My problem is, if we don't satisfy his wantings he might explore FA and others might pay big b/c of his huge potential.

I believe they'll pay the man - they spend a 2nd on him and he's shown lots of potential... Especially against bigger receivers.

But...

Let's see what happens.
