@PaulKuharskyNFL: @a_w_rice Depth charts are influenced a lot by seniority. It's not in stone and there are four games and weeks before cuts.

Seniority does play a huge factor in the 1st depth charts

I understand that but if you look at the RB Why is Ballard over Brown?  I can understand over Bradshaw but Browns been there longer than Ballard.  Does Ballard have the lead on starting?

RB: Vick Ballard Donald Brown Ahmad Bradshaw Delone Carter Davin Meggett Kerwynn Williams

Because Ballard put a strong hold on the starter spot last year and never let go

Frankly, Ballard proved more in one year than Brown has in his entire career.....and I like Brown.

It's the pre-season this can and will change several times between now and opening day if there is something you don't like about it don't worry about odds are it will change if the guy you don't like on the depth chart doesn't preform and the guy you do like does.

Mcafee is going to be doing Punts, Kickoffs and FGs at some point in his career. The ultimate special teamer

I honestly don't think so....

He might do punts, kickoffs and LONG field goals.

But, if he gets all three jobs exclusively and completely,  what happens when he gets hurt?

You either have to find someone off the street who can do all three decently (good luck with that)  or you have to replace him with two guys.

I don't think that's manageable....

I understand that, but replacing a kicker/punter isn't as hard as any other position if an injury occurs.

Not too long ago Viniteri got hurt and we just held a kicking competition and signed Matt Stover to finish the year and a playoff game. I honestly do see the risk but if he is the best at all 3 when Viniteri leaves then let him give it a shot.

But I know this idea will mostly likely never see the light of day

I think the biggest thing standing in McAfee's way is that he was just not a good kicker in college.  He was only a 73% kicker in college and was a 69% kicker before his Senior year.  He was good his Senior Year hitting 85% of kicks so if he's kept improving like that then he might be an option but there is a reason why he's a punter in the NFL and not a kicker.

Since he is franchised he may also want too much money. Could be he leaves after this year. We should find a way to keep McManus who can also punt and kick.

I don't know what he wants, as far as money is concerned. There are simply no indications that the team had any contract talks with him. It doesn't seem like they offered him fair money and he turned it down. It seems like they franchised him and told him they weren't ready to do anything else yet.

That's all conjecture and supposition. I could be totally wrong. But I was on the lookout for any news of contract talks, and I never heard anything. And then Pat's comments about playing on the tag made it seem like he never really got an offer.

I would think a long term contract would have been more reasonable than the FT.

In terms of cap hit, probably. Cash outlay? Not so much.

I'm not sure it's about the money, though.

He is a top ten P. Seems we would pay him like that. If it is something different than money it might still be prudent to keep McManus. I know roster spots are precious but it seems McManus would not last on the PS.

Not a big deal if he dont last on the PS if by some off the wall chance he gets put on there, Pat aint going anywhere anyway, A deal will get done, Irsay and the rest of the Colts organization knows he pretty much has achieved rock star status here in Indy

Hope you are right. He is a talented K/P who I believe will play somewhere in the NFL. With McAfee franchised and Vinateri getting older I would hope we could find a way to keep McManus.

Im not really concerned about it at this point, Vinatieri is still a very good kicker and still has plenty of leg, push comes to shove just sign a Kicker from the undrafted pile of Kickers in the next year or 2

There is no guarantee we could get a talented K/P in that pile.

I like them both, but I don't think that's a fair statement.  Ballard proved he could stay healthy, while Brown couldn't.  As far as rushing average, they were pretty much identical statistically.

I'd say Ballard can get three or four yards where Brown would get stuffed.  And Brown can get the 20 yards where Ballard gets 10.

I'm not too worried about it. It seems like every year we bring in a kicker that people fall in love with.  I'm not saying they're easy to find, just that I don't think McManus is irreplaceable. Certainly not so irreplaceable that we burn a roster spot on a specialist all year long.

But staying healthy is a big part of Brown's problem

I agree.  That's why I said that's what Ballard proved last year.  IMHO, Brown is a more explosive, dynamic runner.  But that doesn't help when you're not able to stay on the field.

With a three man rotation, they'll all take less hits and maybe all make it through a season.  But I don't think the odds are on our side for that.

Can someone explain to me why Andrew Luck is starting over Matt Hasselbeck?

Luck is terrible! Don't let him start Pagano! Nooo!!! :panic:

:funny:

Gotta go with the seasoned vet right? At the very least, let Hasselbeck call the coin toss. That way he can announce we will take the ball and score.

I know this is unofficial and will change but i don't get a few things and why they aren't in place now.

1. Why is Griff Whalen behind Lavon Brazill? From what i have heard the guy is constantly making catches.

2. Why is Ben Ijalana behind Bradley Sowell?

3. Why is Chapman behind Franklin? You would expect a NT who can bowl over 4 Olinemen to start.

I know they all haven't really proved themselves in an actual game but from what i have heard already i would expect them to be higher on the depth chart.

because the coaching staff knows more than us. With that said I am sure it will change between now and the start of the season.

Pre season week 1 roster depth wont be close to what you see come regular season

For our defensive front 7 -- I am interested to know how many people we keep at the different positions, but other than Jerrell Freeman's spot, I don't think the depth chart matters.  There will be so much rotating on the DL and switching Mathis/Walden/Sidbury/Werner around to either rush or stop the run that it won't really matter who starts the game -- it will matter who is conditioned and playing well that week.

Nothings a guarantee but its a chance Im more then willing to take, Like Superman said, not worth burning a roster spot on, 53 or practice squad

Maybe he is not that talented to you but a good kicker is important enough to use either a roster spot or PS spot for. Just a few years ago we missed a kick that allowed the Steelers to go to the SB instead of us.

Yeah. I could sneak over a few days when it was there. Anderson is just too far for me. Haven't been since 2010.

For me Terre Haute is farther but driving through the traffic of Anderson the travel time was not much different. There was a lot more room for the fans at Rose Hulman. The campus is much nicer and at least there was some shade. Being in Anderson wont keep me from going I just liked Rose Hulman better.
