3. Defensive end Cliff Avril -- Avril projects to break the bank in free agency because he's the top natural pass rusher available, just about to turn 27, and offers scheme versatility. He'll appeal to 4-3 and 3-4 clubs alike. With 39.5 sacks, 13 pass breakups, and 16 forced fumbles over the past five seasons, Avril disrupts offenses in a variety of ways. Indy is flush with salary cap space, and Avril's versatility-athleticism combo would be put to great use inChuck Pagano's hybrid defense.

Free Agent Forecast: Colts on a five-year, $64 million contract.

38. Defensive end Dwight Freeney -- 33 and best suited for a specialist's role on limited snaps, Freeney can still bring heat on passing downs as a "wave" rusher. He could be a short-term fix for a Seattle team needing pass-rushing reinforcements as Chris Clemons recovers from a torn ACL.

Free Agent Forecast: Seahawks on a two-year, $10 million contract.

50. Cornerback Antoine Cason -- Although susceptible deep, 26-year-old Cason can make plays on the football and offers impressive corner size at 6-foot-1, 195. Indianapolis is rich on salary cap space and in the market for a bookend across from Vontae Davis. Cason is young, should be relatively affordable, and fits defensive-minded coach Chuck Pagano's press coverage scheme.

Free Agent Forecast: Colts on a three-year, $16.5 million contract.

Okay, now that I look at this..... they only have us signing TWO People???!!! That can't be right. I know we're gonna sign more than TWO People.

Aren't we?

Remember,  that's two out of the top 50....   there are other good players from, say, 51-100....

Still...   it's Rotoworld,  I wouldn't get too worked up either way....

They can keep Avril and we can sign Vasquez instead. It's funny how most of these free agent "prediction" websites, they never have us signing an O-lineman, which is easily the most glaring weakness on the team. I like the Cason signing, but Avril don't play 3-4 OLBer and  we just came off a yr. of a very expensive experiment at that position. I don't think the Colts are going to make that mistake 2 yrs. in a row. Makes much more sense to have us signing Kruger, who they have going to the Browns on a cheaper contract. They should have used a few more brain cells and switched Avril and Kruger, because it just makes much more sense for both teams.

Cason was a guy that wasn't on my radar, but on paper, fits well with the team. I would like to have him.

With Avril, I can't see why he is a good fit for the team, and also the salary that he wants is almost outrageous for a guy with no experience at OLB. Although if Grigson thinks he fits, I won't argue that fact.

No O-line predictions? I am kind of glad that these aren't the actual signings that are happening. Well, except for the Cason signing.

I didn't know Cason was a FA...... we should definitely Sign him. Had him on my Madden team. Vontae & Him together..... man forget about it haha .

I love that they allow my Player (I'm at SS) to roam freely knowing the #1 WR's are shutdown haha

I disagree. Cason is not that great, certainly not much better than Darius Butler or Jerraud Powers.

According to this site, last year he and Jammer were almost as bad as Cassius Vaughn.

. Great City, Great Franchise, Great Fans.... perfect for a new & fresh start

I'm going by Madden haha . But Cason would be better off here imo

Makes no sense to bring him in. Avril doesnt compare to the guy we just let walk....Dwight Freeney.

well I just went looking for a scouting report on Cliff, and its funny cause i found nfldraftscout that had him as a the #4 OLB of that draft (not DE) and cbsports had this to say:

Positives: Undersized to be any every down defensive end, but he has good upper-body muscle tone, ideal arm length, big hands, tapered thighs and calves, along with the feet, balance and change-of-direction agility to bring better value as a strong-side linebacker … Has exceptional closing speed vs. plays in front of him and the lateral agility to string plays wide … Has the agility to bend down the line and cover ground well, showing good urgency closing on the pocket … Gives total effort in his chase and plays with his head up, showing good instincts to find the ball, especially vs. naked bootlegs … … Will generate better production standing up, but even with his hand down, if he gets a dip inside, a slower blocker can't recover … Smart player who will have no problem digesting a playbook at multiple positions (down lineman/strong-side linebacker/rush end) …

Compares To: SHAUN PHILLIPS-San Diego … Earlier in his career, Phillips struggled trying to play with his hand down at the NFL level. When the Chargers moved him to linebacker, they found a dominant force that could also attack the backfield and pressure the pocket. If some NFL team takes that lesson learned by the Chargers and shows patience letting Avril develop at strong-side linebacker, they could be rewarded with a Phillips clone. There is no question that he has the speed to cover receivers in the short-to-intermediate area and if he's not getting pounded by offensive linemen that outweigh him by 50-80 pounds on every play, his level of play could rival that of Phillips and another former Boilermaker, Dallas' Anthony Spencer.

honestly not a fan of converting guys but it seems, at the time, people were thinking of him as OLB because of his lack "bulk"....wasnt Mathis report similar? better suited for OLB because of size?

as a comparitoin, Dion Jordan who many have him as a top 3 OLB is 6-6 248 pounds but there is talk he needs to bulk up to 270 give or take...Cliff is 6 -3 268

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if we had a big name defensive signing. Not saying it'll be Avril, but I think the signing of Pagano was an indicator the Colts will be moving towards a more defensive minded team. Signing big name defensive guys kind of goes along with that.

I would rather have Vasquez than Avril I just think it's alot of money to spend on one player that really hasn't played our style of defense I think we will find a good young corner other than Cason as well I feel like our draft will be heavy on defense I'm loving Xavier Rhodes and Jonathan banks

Well, the guy you want to compare him to didn't fit the system, which is why he's walking.

:D

Still not sold on Avril at that price.

Well, Avril would seem to be a pretty intriguing player. he can  play with his hand down(which the hybrid will have him doing some of)and it sure sounds like he can stand up and be effective in that role as well. It's a lot of money but he is in his prime and he could blossom with a change in scheme
