I feel like it we going to get anywhere in pass rush, run defense or anything of the sort Arthur Jones and Cory Redding gotta step up big time. what do you all think I mean I'm new to the forum but I'm sure a couple u vets can give me some good insight

Can't really offer much insight but yes, I do agree. Jones and Redding need to step up, especially w the loss of Mathis. The defense in general needs to step up. This week should be a good test vs a pretty dynamic offense.

Welcome to the forum btw.

Run defense yes, but if we start getting a pass rush from Jones and Redding then we would rival the 85 Bears defense.

Long story short, Jones and Redding are not here to get 20 sacks a season. Their job is to take up as many offensive linemen as they can, and stop the run.

Not all the time is that there job, In certain situations and formations they are supposed apply pressure on the QB but there primary job is stop the run

In a 3-4, it's usually pretty rare for a DE to get good pass rush consistently.  It varies by system of course, but it's usually the DEs job to keep contain and/or take up offensive linemen to allow OLBs to rush the passer.  Of course, it has been done before (Justin Smith in San Fran, JJ Watt in Houston), but it's pretty uncommon for that to happen.  I think the pass rush should be expected to come from Walden and Werner.  And welcome to the forums!

Jones job is to force a double team period. Redding will occasionally get pressure, but mostly due to great coverage.

Our linebackers are our pass rushers.

Jones was doubled most of the Broncos game, and that is why we played so well against the run.

This is when it goes right:

Arthur Jones was great against Denver, and was really good in helping us stop the run... but DE's in a 3-4 scheme typically aren't pass rushers. Bjoern Werner, Erik Walden, and Jonathan Newsome need to step up and apply the pressure. D'Qwell Jackson and Jerrell Freeman will likely be used in blitz packages a little more too.

Yes I agree, everyone in fact needs to step up. Also, length on the forum has no bearing on football knowledge.

That went so well on the D-line that there where 2 linebackers plugging the only gap that existed and that was between the TE and the RT.

I was actually fairly pleased with the run defense.  We wouldn't have put up as many points in the 2nd half as we did without that run defense.  Peyton and Co clearly wanted to give it to Ball and run out the clock and it just didn't happen cause he couldn't get very far.

We have some major issues if we are gonna have a good def. No one on the line is a player that requires a double team, we must have the worst if the close to it safety play in the NFL, our guys can't catch doesn't have any range and the most important thing can't tackle always going for the big pop .we don't have any pass rushers as of now that demand a chip or a double team..... yet alone win a one on one battle. That being said we need to start having the mind set of the saints eagles etc.....and play to win the game not play not to lose....if y'all understand me. I say live or die a Andrews right arm and to h$34 with baby sitting a grown franchise qb he is not a rookie take the training wheels off the darn kid

I agree. That is why it is ridiculous that some people are saying it was the Broncos not executing in the second half, and not giving the Colts defense any credit. The Colts defense put pressure on Peyton in the second half, and stopped the run.

 Silliness,

Jones and Chapman must be doubled to move them. IMO Hughes will also.

I agree to a certain degree, but seeing as most times these two have to be double teamed then that means that someone else is free. So there has to be another guy that just wants to step up in Mathis absence i think that guy will be Werner. Mathis tweeted not to long ago that he's seen the hard work Werner put in and he is going to be something special.
