that would be the pot calling the kettle black. women actually lined up and paid for magic mike. somebody should have told them real porn is free on the interwebs.

Men do get objectified and it goes completely unnoticed. Women often do not realize that we too are made to feel poor self image when every man depicted on TV has rock hard abs.

However....men do divert to sexual connotation on a way more disproportional level than women and sometimes I'm just embarrassed by it.

...as long as we are applying the same test to male refs as well.

most male refs probably weigh 175+ then they also work out to stay in shape. Yes the women can work out & beef up but I would hope for her sake she weighs at least 150-170 & not be fat. If they do allow female refs then yes I hope they don't get hurt but I also don't want to hear them complaining about getting hit b/c it will happen sooner or later

It's now official(no pun intended). A woman will referee the Thurs night game between the Packers @ SD. They say she referred in the mid eastern Atlantic Conference. I'm sure she'll help boost the ratings some even though we know the NFL wouldn't do that.....yeah right

My first venture into this topic.

If any of the female officials in the discussion end up calling an NFL game, then they did for 2 reasons. 1 ) The NFL/Real officials didn't work out an agreement and 2 ) She/they worked their way up through the ranks of calling the games that they called.

It's not like they are selecting some random person from the crowd or anything like that.

I don't get the uproar just because one or more might be female. I do get the uproar that they aren't the regular/qualified officials.

Mid Eastern Atlantic Conference? Who plays in it b/c I've never seen a woman ref a college game. They should take the top refs from college instead they take some 2nd rate refs (males included). If they work their way up then fine but to take 2nd hand refs for professional sports is ludicrous & goes against what Goodell says about safety first. Safety my ... He's full of it

I'm fairly certain I read an article that some of the "top conferences" have some form of by-laws that prevent them from working NFL games.

meh...have you seen some of the old dudes ref'ing nfl games? my grandpa is in better shape than some of these guys. i would rather have a younger athletic qualified woman in there than some old guy wearing bifocals.

I really don't think gender has any impact on a person's ability to call a football game (or any other game for that matter). I do think that training and experience do have an impact. Last night's Hall of Fame game showed that clearly. While I didn't see too many bad calls, the time and conferencing between officials when there was a question was irritating. There also seemed to be confusion over the rules.

I wish the NFL would hire full-time officials and get the lawyers and accountants back in their offices where they belong.

Ask and you shall receive.

Or, depending on how you feel, speak of the Devil...

For the first time in league history, a female referee will officiate an NFL game Thursday night.

Shannon Eastin, a referee from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, will wear the officiating stripes when the Green Bay Packers travel to San Diego to play the Chargers for each team's preseason opener.

Edit: I see this was linked to already. Oh well, here it is again. I think this is going to be pretty cool. The article says she'll be the line judge, well out of the way of any contact during the play.

Well, if she is qualified, more power to her.

Now based on experience, i played football, but i also have 2 brothers, my dad, and my grandpa that all played. My grandpa was headed to the NFL, but tore his knee out and never went. My dad still owns the sack record for the state. My brothers were dang good.

So football is in my blood. Now how many refs played college ball? I would be interested in knowing. I feel desire and love for the game would far out weigh playing experience. It was Ray Lewis that said not even he knows all the rules.

I don't think playing experience has anything to do with whether you make a good ref or not.

Thank you for posting that link Superman and I concur with you 100% regarding the statement I bolded. Some individuals embrace change and some individuals dig in, hunker down, and resist it. Either way, to use a popular Bob Dylan phrase and song title "The Times Are A' Changin'" for the better I think. I don't care if NFL zebras are male or female just be patient and give them all a legitimate shot to show their stuff.

I looked into that a bit just because I was curious. All of the current NFL refs from the random sample that I checked did play college football, most of them at minor Division 1 schools (not power conferences). (Actually, let me rephrase that. All of the current NFL refs from my random sample that were easily available on Wickipedia. I didn't put a lot of work into digging up information.)

Yep, the top conferences reached out immediately to their refs and locked them up. They basically said if you jump to the NFL during the ref strike you wont have a job to come back too. The top tier refs from college football will not be coming to the NFL to save the day. You are going to get refs from the lowest conferences and refs fired from the top conferences.

best of luck to Shannon Eastin! She will break the mold and take more crap off the field and in the media than could ever be dished out on the field. Remember Shannon, the guys have a bazillion blown and bad calls, so you don't have that much to live up to.

Over here, we've had a couple of assistant referees who are female over the last few years. Got off to a terrible start - sexist comments from a few individuals (including managers and pundits) which caused outrage but for the most part, the female refs have been more competent than their male counterparts...

.....argh....men....what's wrong with us? Why ?

lol...I mean, it's no wonder woman take us down a few pegs with every given opportunity. We are truly sick.

Don't be too tough on yourself. Us women can objectify men as well. And to be honest.......I think a lot of men LIKE IT.:thanks:

Thank you Jules for being honest about this reality. A lot of women tend to believe objectification of the opposite sex is a one way street; it isn't.

A liberated society requires equality for all sexes right? haha:thmup:
