Tyler Goodson

Need to start getting this guy more carries. He's clearly a better back than Sermon and had nearly twice as many rushing yards on less than half the attempts. 8 carries for 51 yards for Goodson and 18 carries for 29 yards for Sermon. At the very least he should be promoted to the #2 running back behind JT and give him 20-25% of the carries on gameday to give JT a breather. What you guys think?

We just need better RBs in general. JT is great when he's on the field, but he's unreliable. I hope we pick up a good one in the draft this off season. Preferable someone who does something different than run up the gut...

agreed. Goodson, is good. but not great. We definitely miss Moss.

One of those guys we should've spent a little extra to keep.

I think Sermon is a better blocker...other than that, I prefer Goodson.

He has way more burst and isn’t as indecisive as Sermon.

Colts fans are still biased against him for his 4th and 1 drop vs Texans last year but yeah, he’s definitely a more decisive back than Sermon, especially for going outside the tackles.

For perspective, Goodson had one run to the left that gained 33 yards. His other 7 carries were a 2.6 yd average. It's not talked about much, but Fries was having a pro-bowl year. He is going to be missed.

He got what was there, several times them met him in the backfield and he still managed to get back to line of scrimmage or eek out a yard or 2.

I will say I don't like the one run Goodson had up the middle that he just put his head down and was ramming into the back of the O-Line. TN's outside contain broke down and it looked like he could've bounced off and broke it outside but his head was down and he wasn't looking.

Well pointed out.

But on the other hand, Sermon had zero break away runs.

I agree. I’m not going to overreact to one game where Goodson looked explosive at times. We need better RB depth. Sermon is okay as a relief back, but they need another bell cow type.

I am over his drop; he is better than Sermon but isn't even close to being better than JT. JT is a game changer, all it takes is 1 play for JT to break one big. I used to say this about Barry Sanders so that says a lot.

JT is the game changer back. Anyone else getting significant carries means the colts are not nearly at their best.

He’s just not durable enough for 20-25 carries a game. That’s the main issue really in my opinion.

His 2021 burst, I have not seen it being back with JT. Having said that, he’s still our best back, no doubt when healthy. Lots of mileage at Wisconsin, that will catch up with you in the NFL where RBs have 1 good contract, tops. So 15-20 carries is ideal with a good No.2

Goodson has to be promoted to No.2, like most of us seem to concur.

Sermon's issue is that he thinks he has the vision and explosiveness of JT. If he would just hit the hole at full speed instead of dancing around he would be better. He's not good enough to make people miss in the hole or in space.

Sermon is… meh. He’s definitely benefitting from running behind our line right now. He’s not a guy who is going to make a lot of yards on his own. When he was with the 49ers his vision reminded me a lot of trent richardson. There were times in SF that it seemed like he didn’t even know which gap the play was supposed to run to. I’d definitely be in favor of more Goodson over him. I’ve never seen the Sermon infatuation. He’s just mid, and limited at that.
