And now it's very likely all over for him... what a stupid waste of a talent.

There was also a question about why such a good player was found in the 5th or 6th round.  Most assumed it was due to size, but its possible that he has had this issue for a long time.  As you say, we will know more as the facts come out.

It is getting really tiring that everyone thinks that these players don’t know the rules. It’s not that complicated. You can’t bet on the nfl and betting on other sports must not be done in the facility or on team time. Players know the rules.

Players should know the rules. I don't believe the league or the teams have been negligent in this regard. But some of the finer details -- no bets in the team hotel, on the road, no bets on the draft or the Combine, etc. -- might have been misunderstood. Doesn't really apply in Rodgers case, he was apparently betting on NFL games, which is prohibited no matter what.

And still, they should know the rules, so ignorance is not an acceptable excuse in any event.

It is not my intention to create an excuse for anyone. I'm simply wondering about some of the details, which have not been published.

IMO at this point we are all just guessing and it's probably not helpful.

It's not helpful, but I wasn't really trying to help. Not something I'm in position to do anyway. Just thinking out loud, given the info that Rapoport shared yesterday, which I found interesting.

I would say pretty spot on. I really don't have a problem with what Rodgers did or what he does as long as he doesn't bet on us to lose. That is the elephant in the room, none of us know if he bet on Colts games?? Like you said too, just don't bet on NFL games, hell bet on baseball and basketball if you like to gamble. Play the Slots or Poker at a casino as well homer simpson cards GIF- Only Homer would say hit me with a 19 lmao

I love the episode where homer is playing poker, gets a good hand and has a huge smile on his face as a clear tell.  I think he loses everything to a former actress or someone like that.

Possibly but it wouldnt change much in my eyes.  Art schlichter actually did that too

Oh I'm not defending.  Just pointing out that there could be a whole gamut of reasons as to why it looks the way it looks.  None of them good, however.

I haven't been reading as much on it, so you're no doubt more informed than I am. I might just be hoping for the best. But 'hundreds of bets' in one season has to be more than just betting on the outcomes of games.

Based on the precedents, he's getting at least a year, and probably longer. Like you said, I hope no other teammates were involved, but it's very possible.

If you figure the 32 teams play 17 games that would be 272 games played. Add to that you can bet not only the point spreads but the over and under are also popular. So double the 272 and your up to 544 possible bets to make. Add to that parlays and teasers and you have a plethora of bets to make on NFL games. None of those bets are complicated and one doesn't have to be a sophisticated gambler to understand or place those bets.

This doesn't even include playoff games or bets for players to reach certain "numbers." The site I bet on has numerous bets you can make such as odds on say Taylor rushing for 90 yards. The odds might be something like if you bet over that number , you lay $120 to win $100. The odds might be if you bet he doesn't rush for at least 90 yards , your bet would be $100 to win a $100. They have similar bets for a QB say throwing for over or under 21/2 TDS. I'm not saying that it's not possible he was entering weekly fantasy football contest online . Just saying that it's very easy to total hundreds of bets in an NFL season. I'm not proud that I grew up betting sports and later adding casino games to that but I do have a good idea of how this crap works.

You're right. I was thinking hundreds of bets on Colts games only...

So what you’re saying is you’re a pro?

What's the point of that remark ?

Since you ask ,  I was casino  blackjack player that counted cards for a few years. Before that I booked sports bets.  Does that make me a 'pro?"  Depends on your definition of a "pro."

As I said in the post you make the snide remark too , it's nothing that I'm proud of . If I had to do it over , I would have spent the time it took to learn counting cards and playing in the casinos on something like learning the real estate business or equity markets.

I didn’t mean it as an insult. More of the “if I wanna get into betting, I know who to ask”

Thanks for that long detailed explanation.   This has been my hunch all along.  That while Rodgers made hundreds of bets, they may not have all been on the Colts.

I don’t know nothing, I’m just publicly speculating.   But your explanation makes the most sense to me!   Appreciated.

I'm just throwing stuff out there . The information we get is really limited . However , IMO , just the fact that he bet on NFL games from the Colt facility and the fact that his bets included at least 1 or 2 Colt games , he's in for something more than a 1 year suspension. Hopefully I'm wrong but seems like Ridley got a year for less .

Was watching College World Series and the announcers was interviewing the new NCAA commissioner.  He brought up they need to do something with the NIL but don't know what to do yet.  Also brought up they did a survey of 5000 athletes and found all of them have been betting on sports.  Said a majority had bet on their own school.  The announcers and he did not address whether they bet on their own games.

Yup, fully agreed.    Was trying to say that your viewpoint as someone who has considerable gambling experience and understanding I think is very helpful to this discussion.

LOL.  I remember the days when the athlete accepted the athletic scholarship so he could get a free education.  That's how he was compensated by the college.

Makes you wonder if the college degree is any type of motivation for these "college students"  LOL.

IMO, its trending towards the NFL and NBA simply creating a minor league system outside of college for the kids who want to skip the college degree part of the athletic scholarship.

I mean.... this seems pretty cut and dry, he even admitted to it.

How is it taking this long for his punishment to be decided?

I have a sick feeling there may be more Colts players connected and suspended. Adam Shefter just said he thinks there will be more players suspended league wide.

There have been 750 episodes of the Simpsons, roughly 35 seasons strong since 1989. Talk about doing a top 4 of all-time with that = a Mt Rushmore lmao . The 4 that do stand out to me are:

4. Do it for her, Homer for Maggie, the ending is priceless!

3. Tree House of Horror V - the Shining "give me the bat".

2.  Homer saves Monorail with Bart - Homer saves several lives and was a hero. Of course Donuts was involved.

1. Lisa's little pony - Homer best damn employee of all-time and he walks off into the sunset! He worked 2 jobs and nearly killed himself for Lisa so she could have a pony.

Is it sad that I still have the 1989 Christmas Simpsons special on VHS? I’d recorded it cause it was during church service haha

LOL.  Do you remember when the NCAA used the likeness and number to make money for video games?   Oh LOL do you remember when the NCAA used the likeness of these kids to promote sports betting?  Oh LOL.  Just like the old days huh.

I know this is off topic bringing up Homer but I was just responding to Fluke and now you. What amazes me is, that show is still going after 35 years and it is animation/cartoonish. It feels real at times though and probably the reason why it has lasted so long. I find Homer hilarious as well. I don't even like animation or cartoons for that matter but that show has stood out to me. I did a top 4 above but Mother Simpson Leaving is another episode that really is sad, also Homer staying home/acting like he is sick to avoid going to church is flat out funny. The stuff he does at home while everyone else is freezing their butt going to church haha . He sings, drinks beer, walks around in his underwear, and dances all day.

All I know is I’m gonna start watching the simpsons for predicting the future. They’ve been so dead on in predicting future events that it’s scary

My favorite is the baseball episode, when the pro players walk by just in time for Nelson (or someone else) to select them for his team and Bart is stuck with kids.  I'll take Darrell Strawberry,  ugh, i'll take milhouse.  lol

Yes, the Baseball episode is way up there. That is one of the best easily. Great call. I forgot about that one somehow. Homer got hit the head by a baseball even lmao . That damn head is twice the size as Manning's so he survived.
