With the 54th selection in the 2022 Gavin NFL Mock Draft, the New England Patriots select Troy Andersen, LB, Montana St.

If NE had a DC, he or she would be very disappointed in how the front seven played last year.  So, I used the first two selections to drastically improve two of those spots with fast rising prospects.  Anderson gives them a very athletic presence in the LB corps.  Mafe should be a nice upgrade over Wise or Guy…

The Colts drafted McBride and he gives Ryan another big target to go with MPJ!

The next big thing on the board is a WR who can stretch the field!

With the 56th pick in the NFL Draft the Indianapolis Colts select WR Calvin Austin III Memphis

Austin is a homerun everytime he touches the ball and will make the offense electric

Thanks @runthepost, I did not see your confirmation of the pick.

Per PM from @stitches, with the 53rd pick of the Gavin Mock Draft, Packers select

George Pickens, WR, Georgia

@Archer is next for the Patriots.

Can't believe Pickens fell here. He was no. 1 player on my board at the start of the round... I think I can get Aaron Rodgers off my neck now. :goodluck:

Thoughts on Colts

Colts traded 42 for 48 148 and 150 to draft Trey McBride TE then traded 73 122 an 150 to get Calvin Austin III at 56.

They don't have 3rd or 4th now but have 3 5ths

I thought Sky Moore was the target of the trade up. But I like Austin too. I’m just afraid his size will have him as a gadget only type guy but he sure is dynamic.

5 QBs in top 40, but only one RB taken in two rounds, that too at #46!

One thing I've noticed in our mock drafts in this forum in last few years is GMs don't go for RBs much early in the draft here, unless there are generational talents available.

But in real draft, I guess teams give bit more priority to RB position.

Is that true?

I think that teams have learned from the bust of Richardson and constant injuries of Barkley that RB taken in top of the draft is a waste. I think the second round is the earliest I’d take a RB. The only reason I traded up was because of giving Zach Wilson all the help I could and I feel that Breece had dropped far enough to make him worth it there along with getting a decent return in pick value with getting 46 for the price of 52.

Some teams still grab a RB in the back half of round one but I think the positional value of other positions make the 5th year option so much more useful. Some teams seem to have a guy they really like and are not willing to risk losing him by waiting for second or third round to take a RB.

I would never take a RB in the 1st or re-sign them to a top dollar deal after their rookie contract. The position is too prone to injuries and wear down. Henry has been one of the only ones worth his extension at RB. Elliot has diminished to average at best and McCaffrey has been injured at all times.

I think it’s just the way the league is moving now but there are always a few GMs that are stubborn and stay behind the curve instead of trying to get ahead of it.

@coltsfanej  loved the selection. You got good value there.

Yea, if I had to pick one guy that I would want at 42 that had a decent chance at being there I think I’d take Pickens. He has the size, hands, and speed to be a #1 guy along with being a good blocker. If his health checks out he’s the guy I want but I have a feeling he goes in the 1st come draft day.

Agreed about all that, but if we're looking with the same magnifying glass, the worst position that's being recurrently drafted so high in first round while rarely giving the value in return is,

QB

Not RB

Even in the cases of Barkley or CMC, the teams got at least one season of MVP production, and compare that to Baker Mayfield or Daniel Jones or Dwayne Haskins., etc.,

I'd gladly take RB in first round. Their career lifespan at the peak may be short but they consistently return more value for the first round selection that the team spent.

Teams can decide on not giving second contract to RBs as most highly valued RBs in subsequent drafts could replace the production either alone or in a committee.

@runthepost Are you going with Ingram?

Y'all, except us, vikings fans, we like to see Aaron Rodgers throw tantrums on the field :blah: having no quality receiver to throw to

The thing is though, it’s almost impossible to compete for a SB without a top 8 QB. So I say if u don’t have “the” guy at QB then u keep keep chasing it because a top QB is almost totally required to seriously compete.

only 3 teams averaged 5 or more yards per carry last year. Colts, Browns, and Seahawks. None made the playoffs.

3 of the top 4 rushing teams missed the playoffs. The one that made the playoffs were the 9win Eagles

9/10 top passing teams made the playoffs, and the best QB won every division last year with Tannehill vs Wentz being the only possible argument in which case Wentz had the best RB in the league last year and still missed the playoffs which only reinforces my point.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying RBs are not important and I love that we have JT. But the position is just not as valuable as it once was in this league.

If @WarGhost21 does not select a player for the Ravens by 10:30, who should I select? (Just think about it.)

@The Old Crow What does your team need? Is there a player that you would like to see the Ravens draft?

Inside LB, LT, CB, Center are the main needs. With the 14, just get best player available , as usual. Plenty of 3rd and 4th round picks to go after need.

Thank you, but you are three days late. We went with Derek Stingley, CB, LSU in the first round and Drake Jackson, EDGE, USC in the second round. Your GM @WarGhost21 was very excited that Jackson was still available when he picked for the Ravens. Stingley was BPA at the time that we selected.

@The Old Crow I meant to quote you but I quoted myself.

The last pick today will be the next Ravens pick at #76 (10PM EDT).
