Following Bradley

I was reading either an article or someone's comment about personnel and staff coming over with Bradley.

Anyone know of any FAs that might want to come play with Bradley?  He's a vet and made a lot of people a lot of money.

Sherman had some personal struggles and wasn't good last year, but the year before that he was pretty good, and 2 years ago he was All Pro level.

I hope he can somehow bring a FS with him.

Anyone heard of anyone who might be a good fit and is available to come over with Bradley?

Mr. Sherman is a shell of his former self. You really don't want to go there.

That said, here's hoping for a true FS to come knocking. Move Blackmon to SS, use Willis as the 3rd safety, and you've automatically improved your coverage.

And if not any players from the Raiders, would we want to step up to the plate re: Tyrann Matthieu?  There's a lot of buzz about teams interested in the Honey Badger.  He's barely 30 years old, and would command top dollar.  Something tells me that CB probably wouldn't want to shell out that many clams for him.  Still....

Obviously Sherman is injured and is old and his best days are behind him.  Listen, me personally, his mental issues, if dealt with don't bother me.  If the dude is taking care of himself, I personally don't hold that against him.

This could be a time when reuniting with the dude that facilitated his stardom might work.  Taking a flyer on the dude (as long as he is stable mentally) might be very lucrative.  At the least, he would likely be excellent helping our young DBs learn how to play GBs D.

I'm not necessarily advocating for it strongly, but I wish we would start trying some of these reclamation projects.  It certainly worked out with A. Brown last year for TB (yes I know it didnt' this year but I don't think it hurt) and OBJ and Miller for LAR this year.  I don't think Rams are playing this weekend without those two.

My initial guess would be guys like:

Casey Heyward

Quenton Jefferson

Denzel Perryman (if they let a guy like Franklin walk)

I agree about FS. LAC had drafted Adderley to be that guy, but he dealt with injuries early on. In LV, they drafted Moehrig, who was the best CF type S in the draft.

I don't see that type of player on the Colts. Blackmon is more a downhill player, not a rangy player. And as @EastStreet has pointed out, he has struggled in pass coverage.

Interestingly, Hooker would have fit. And I think Tell would as well. So maybe they bring him Tell and try him as FS depth.

But, outside of drafting one early (like Joseph from Illinois), FA is probably the best route. And with everything going on in NO, I hope that Marcus Williams hits the market. And if he does, he should be a priority for this team, given his fit and age.

Pairing Williams with Blackmon (at SS) is a very exciting option. Willis then becomes good SS depth, which they need as well.

Does anyone know?  Have players followed Bradley to other jobs?  Is he popular among his players?

Just looking at LV's transactions last year...I think Heyward and Quenton Jefferson followed him over there. They traded for Perryman before the season. That's most of the overlap.

FS is much more important in what Bradley does than in most situations.

I really wanted to see hooker and Blackmon play together if only hooker could have stayed healthy. Not really a fan of Willis cause he is not fast , not good In coverage and always taking bad angles on run plays

Former Chargers coaches & players who joined Gus Bradley with the Raiders are DB Coach Ron Milus (a former college CB & return specialist who coached with the Bolts for 7 seasons and is expected to join Bradley in Indy), CB Casey Hayward, DT Darius Philon, DE Quentin Jefferson, (who was also in Seattle with Gus) CB Brandon Facyson & ILB Denzel Perryman.

I don't think we could pry the former Packer & Charger Hayward from the Raiders, but I think we could possibly get any or a few of the other former Bolts to join Bradley with the Colts, and that could help our defense with their talent and familiarity with his scheme.

Heyward is an UFA though. He's played with Bradley since 2017, so I could see him signing in Indy. He might be the one that I definitely couldn't see, along with one of the DL players. Perryman is under contract with LV, so the Colts would have to compensate them to get Perryman (and coming off a PB season no less).

Some of those other guys were on 1 year contracts with Las Vegas, so in theory they would also be free to follow Bradley as well.

I was looking at Hayward. He would be an encouraging addition IMO.  If we are going to sit in C3 all game, we are going to need players that can do it.  The success hinges largely on Paye and Dayo.

This is something I was saying before the season started.  I said Ballard would be in trouble if Paye doesn't start sacking the QB this season (not his rookie sesason), and I think this is the case.  He could have gotten a LT that is already very good and went for the project pass rusher again.  I like Paye, he's a great edge setter already and would probably be a probowl type of 5 techif he added 20 lbs , but I don't know if he's going to be a really good EDGE rusher. I hope so.    Unless we get someone else, we absolutely must have good sack totals from Paye and some from Dayo.  Or CB will be gone or should be anyway.  If we sit in 3 all game and don't get front four pressure, we will get carved, especially, without a FS.

To me, defensively, this is completely Ballard's team now.  This is the type of D he wanted. I don't know where he thinks he's going to get his FS, but we certainly need a single high guy now.

Here's the thing on that - it's a double edged sword. Flus may try to sign a lot of our free agents as well......lol

As far as the Raiders are concerned, I would take a look at Solomon Thomas (DE - Depth), Nicholas Morrow (LB - Depth/ST), Quinton Jefferson (DT - Depth & played in SEA/LV under Cover 3), Johnathan hankins (NT - A reunion with him as depth behind Stewart wouldn't be a bad idea), Casey Hayward (CB - At 32 years old could be a good mentor and Depth), and Desmond Trufant (CB - At 30 years old could be a good mentor and Depth).

Out of the above group I would be happy with Thomas, Hankins and Jefferson the most......

Sorry, Scott….   I’m confused.

In your second paragraph you write bringing in Hankins as the backup to Stewart woukd be a bad idea.

Then in your last sentence you say you’d be happy with getting Hankins.    So which is it?   Bad idea or you’d be happy?

Hayward is the most likely to follow him here.  He had a nice season for the Raiders. He made only $2.5 million last year. If Ballard gives him a decent raise the Colts should be able to bring him in to replace Rhodes at a reasonable price.  Desmond King is another former Bradley DB that’s a free-agent. Hayward seems like the logical vet to add to the DB room.

Typo........lol.............wouldn't be a bad idea and it's fixed, thank you!

I’m trying wrap my head around how the linebackers would be used in this scheme vs what Eberflus did.  I do know Perryman is a tackling machine especially compared to Leonard and Okereke.  I believe he’s a liability in coverage.  Considering the team will often be in a 4-2-5 I can’t see spending much money on bringing in a MIKE like Perryman though. Perryman was third in the NFL in solo tackles.  I thought Okereke’s tackling was downright bad at times.
