Making a case for Jimmy Garoppolo

Recommended Posts

Let's just say we lose out on Stafford, I wouldn't be surprised if the colts entertain the idea. I did hear the other day the colts while trading for Buckner last year asked about Jimmy G and the niners said no. Well now the niners seem more open to the idea and imo would cost the colts a lot less to trade for him compared to Stafford. Now I know the argument against him is he gets hurt and the offense works without him, but the niners don't win without Jimmy G. The two seasons the niners don't have Jimmy G, they won 8 games. Not to mention his contract hit while it's high at 26 mil, he is only due 4 mil in dead cap so a high reward extremely low risk move.

He's not a free agent. You'd have to trade for him.

If they acquire Stafford most likely Jimmy G would be released. They save almost $24m by releasing him/ and or trading him.

Possibility of trading him, I think I heard not to much action on that front though(all speculation though). As most teams would want to draw up their own contract for him.

It's actually not a bad contract. Cap hit wise it's high, but dead cap is only 4 mil.

Yeah SF can get out of it easily. I think they get a pick back out of him,  it recall reading a couple articles that said there wasn't much traction there. Again though, everything is rumors.

I do think if Stafford goes there, Jimmy will end up back in NE though.

Perhaps, but I think it's a viable option for us if we can't get Stafford.

I’m all for considering JG.   But my view on him is the same as it was for Wentz.

The contract must be restructured.   Period. JG gets less as a base salary and more with reasonable incentives.

My understanding (Pre-Stafford) is the 49ers still like him, but wanted him to re-work his deal.  The word was, JG was willing to do so.   One would think he’d be willing to do so with the Colts.

The Colts should not have to assume all the risk.  Trade picks, pay over-inflated contract, and have to rehabilitate a player who is no longer at the top of his game.   It’s a two way street.

No , it would be a bad move , the best ability is availability and he has never played a full season . And with the colts history with injuries we should not dabble with him. I suggest we go draft or sign/trade for low risk high upside guy like darnold , Winston etc...until we find that guy

I dont love it, but we have very limited options now.  I could see them giving it a try

Besides the injury issue with Jimmy P Star.  Why don’t the Niners don’t want to keep him as there Franchise QB?  I honestly don’t follow Niners much so I don’t know.  Someone please fill me in.

I could possibly see Ballard offering a 4th rounder for Jimmy G, as the bridge guy for a few years until Eason is ready.

Otherwise I hope Ballard is looking long and hard on where these top 4 rookie QBs may go in the draft. If he can deal up to say 7 overall and snatch a Justin Fields, that would be a home run longterm imo.

If you think about it, SF has a very good team besides their QB

The Colts have a very good team besides their QB

I see a big similarity

If the 49ers cant get to SB with the existing QB, why would we think that the same person would make the difference here?

Asking for a friend.....

    • Yeah, Ebukam almost looks clumsy next to Latu. He's just so fluid.
    • Did Hou actually get that much better? This really does remain to be seen. I am of the opinion that the signing of Diggs is a signing that has been made about 2 years too late. He won't be bad, but he isn't a top 10 WR in the NFL anymore. I wouldn't put him as any more dangerous that Pittman, so WR's are a push. We have the better RB, Mixon is great and all, but he is not JT. We have the better Oline, and it isn't even close. TE's are a push, we have a lot of upside, but until it is realised im very "meh" on our TEs. QB - I would argue that Stroud is probably more likely to regress to the mean in year 2 vs improve. That rookie season of his was a bit silly, and they had an easier schedule last season too. If he really does build on last year and get even better, then our entire discourse here is probably irrelevant as we will have another Mahomes level QB on our hands to deal with in the AFC and within the AFC South no less. So unless Richardson is also a Mahomes level talent in that scenario, we are done for anyways. To me, our success in this coming season comes down to 2 groups on this entire team. 1. The QB (because... duh) 2. Our DBs. If we even get average play from the DBs, I think this team has the ability to win the whole damned thing (supposing Richardson stays healthy and is what we all hope he is). I would also argue that Houston are paper thin. If they lose a OL starter, Mixon or even one of their starting WRs.... they have a very big drop off. And injuries happen in the NFL. Just sayin...
    • If he wasn’t fast enough or athletic enough anymore for linebacker, then he’s not going to be able to cut it at Safety where speed , quickness, athleticism are even more important.    Wish it wasn’t so….
    • could he be another bob sanders at that position?
    • Man I love me some Maniac, but it won't happen, and he's too slow after his surgeries.
