What celebrations are bad sportsmanship?

I like celebrations, unless it is against my team, and my team is losing...   yeah.. I am a poor sport..  LOL

My favorite is the Marvin spiking the ball and it hit one of the Patriot.. he was dumbfounded.  it was classic because Marvin barely cracks a smile

1.  Celebrations can be O.K., but the ones that are taunting, and self promoting, are the ones that really bother me.

2. 'Act like you've been there before': It's amazing how many people are credited for that quote. It's as old as dirt, and I'm certain it predates even my high school coach.

3. Performance Anxieties: There's a pill for that. Maybe some of these guys should take it if it makes them feel better about themselves.

Yeah, I have no idea who actually said the 'act like you've been there before' quote first either. I just remember Jerry Rice carrying himself with that mantra all the way to Canton, Ohio & the NFL HOF. The key being anybody can score a touchdown once, but let's see a model of consistency there for years.

Yes, if football is a team sport, it is an experience shared by an entire locker room not just say 6-8 superstars.

Pills you say...Are we talking anti-depressants, muscle relaxants, or Viagra? Just Kidding!

In all seriousness, NFL athletes are like movie celebrities in 1 aspect: You're only as good as your last performance meaning game or on screen role. Hitting the reset button on a poor game or bad picture isn't as easy as it sounds at 1st blush. Yes, I realize that lucrative salaries offset the drawbacks of critical backlash & injury woes as well. So, sympathy will only carry a person just so far in the eyes of average joe & jane's public scrutiny.

Cam bothers me with the protracted 'Superman' dance and taking the ball away from opponent or refs to give to the little kids.....It just comes off as an egomaniac trying to make it all about him, not about his team.

It was annoying when he was a rookie and it still is...

...

I don't mind team celebrations but Cam seems to make it all about him. That's how it strikes me

Celebrations don't bother me though Stevie Johnson mocking Plaxico Burress's leg shooting incident was to far back a few years ago in the 2nd quarter vs the Jets

I was at that game with a group of friends. If I remember correctly, a flag was called on Johnson for his act. The guy to my right was a Bills fan and immediately voiced frustration with Johnson, saying he is immature and he wanted Johnson off the team. From where we were sitting it was hard to tell exactly what Johnson did but we soon heard about it because everyone was talking about it.

I don't allow these types of celebrations to bother me and take away from my enjoyment of the games.

The preplanned, choreographed celebrations I think are foolish and it's easy to tell the difference between a spur of the moment celebration and the one the player practiced in front of the mirror.

The thing that really burns me is the players that don't have enough respect to remove their skull caps during the national anthem.  Some * even had their skull caps on and then a towel over their heads.

I think a lot of that is terrible parenting of this generation.   I was taught at a very young age to remove head gear during the national anthem.    It's a rare sight for twenty somethings to remove hats during the anthem now days

To me, sportsmanship is about respecting your opponent. Some celebrations purposely disrespect the opponent, and those are no good. TO's Dallas star celebration is an example. And anything that's obviously against the rules or lewd is selfish, and I look down on that as well.

But most of this stuff is just a guy having a little fun. If you don't want a guy dancing in the end zone, don't let him get there. I don't think it's a reflection of a player's feelings toward his opponent or the sport itself, it's an expression of excitement and enjoyment over an achievement during their game. And I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

I personally think many people are taking themselves too seriously over all this stuff.

Notice the scoreboard.

That's what makes it hilarious. Well, pathetic, but hilarious.

Although nothing tops that doofus who celebrated with a sack on Brady a year or two ago when it was like 49-3 New England. He wound up jumping in the air and pulling a hamstring or something. I can't remember who it was.

Jackpot. Lamarr Houston on Da Bears. Tore his ACL.

And actually he didn't even sack Brady...he got the backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo in garbage time.

As some have already mentioned, I do not mind most celebrations after a key play or scoring drive, just the ones that taunt or mimic the opponent.

Also, I do not think it helps things that NFL films and TV tends to show the celebrations which only brings support to the same.

From me I still love Billy "white shoes" Johnson celebrations.

There's a difference between celebrating and being obnoxious. I understand a celebration every now and then, it's cute, I get it, whatever.....but after just about every positive play? C'mon man!!!! Get over yourself!!!! It's great that he gives the footballs to kids, but do you really need all the extra nonsense? To each is own I guess? And I agree with Superman, don't want to see them celebrate, don't let them score!!!!!

In addition....The whole incident earlier in the season with Josh Norman vs OBJ really put a bad taste in my mouth for Carolina...for guys to bring baseball bats onto a FOOTBALL field was absolutely ridiculous and disrespectful. I don't care if they were props or were only supposed to symbolize a beat down, or if it was only to get into OBJs head, which it obviously did. I like Ron Rivera, but if I was coach, that would not have happened.
