3rd Day Targets.... (Defense)

Recommended Posts

We'll start with defense.    That's what we all seem to hope we do tomorrow,  especially since we did nothing on Friday..........

So,  by position, and not by ranking....   this is from Scouts Inc at ESPN.   I'm expecting Grigson to offer a 2015 #3 to obtain a 2014 #4.    I don't see him letting 65 picks go by before we pick at 166.

Don't see that happening.

Grigs does have a pretty good track record of trading up around this time in the draft. There are some CBs and Safeties still left who I wouldn't be surprised if we feel pretty good about. I know everyone is getting tired of losing draft picks, but depending on the guy, I wouldn't be too upset if we parted way with a 2015 third round pick for a high 4th rounder. Quite a few good looking players still out there.

We need DBs. I didn't realize Daquan Jones and Carl Bradford were still available too.

If we could offer up WR Lavon Brazill and our 2015 5th, Id be all for moving into the 4th. I feel as if Brazill has some trade value, just not great value.

I'll be honest with you, I've been watching some tape on Alden Darby and he seems to be someone we could use- a safety/nickle tweener with cover skills. He's projected into the 6th round but I think that is more from his college than his skill.

That trade won't even get you in the bottom of the 4th, hell it won't even get you a 5th

I hope we can get one of M.Sam, Skov, Smallwood, Colvin, Dixon,  or Exum. if we can get two or three of those guys that would be better. but one would be nice.

I didn't think about that. We were all expecting a ton of defense and yet chances are we don't get a single impact player in D here. Damn..

Freaking Mewhort.

I didn't understand that pick either. he is a project player at best. and still do not understand why we drafted a WR when we have Wayne, Nicks, Hilton, Rogers, Brazill, and Whalen not to mention able to put Fleener and Allen in the slot position at times. could have waited a year or signed a UDFA. instead it feels like we are only drafting guys to put on the practice squad. I would have liked us to get Southward or Terrance Brooks to fill Bethea's spot at the safety position. instead we go with a Guard who prob will never start a game for us.

Moncrief has first round talent, but needs grooming. Who knows if he have Wayne or Nicks in '15. Your thinking short term, they're not.

This has to be one of the greatest drafts ever. Almost every team is having a great draft. The depth is unbelievable. We need NT competition so I still like Justin Ellis and Daquan Jones, but now you still have McCullers and Coleman on the board. And the safety depth is looking good as well. Vereen, Loston, and Bailey still available. And then at corner. McGill, Breeland, Desir, are all still available? Then you still have, Roberson, Purifoy, and Terrance Mitchell. It's incredible.

Even at ILB, Shayne Skov, Yawin Smallwood, Max Bullough, and Avery Williamson. I hope Grigson trades into the 4th.

I hope we go with Desir or Purifoy(would probably have to trade into the 4th for desir), then Ahmad Dixon who we could probably get in the sixth and is a great run defender. I think the only guy left who has a chance to be a good pass rusher is Jackson Jeffcoat, who we could probably get in the 5th. If we could get Desir/Purifoy, Dixon and Jeffcoat, I think that would be a very successful day 3 of the draft, possibly getting 2 first year starters.

If we're going to trade into the 4th round,  we're down to it now...

After Carolina comes SF, NE, Denver and Seattle.

All the picks after that are compensatory and can't be traded.    So, it's now or we hold our water until the 5th round.

Would the 4 teams I mentioned be interested in a 3 next year for a low 4 this year?    You'd think so, but you never now?

Who knows, maybe we don't want to trade a future 3?    Grigson showing great patience.

Maybe he's willing to do a 4 next year for a 5 this year, which would give us two 5's?

I just don't see us sitting on our three picks that we have.   Making a trade just seems to fit the Grigson profile.....

We'll soon see..........

I'm WRONG again!    Boy, am I on a roll!!

I sure hope we're trying to trade for an extra 5th round pick.   There are still guys there I would think we'd like and want......

Now, we'd be offering a 4 next year for a 5 this year......   hoping we can find someone who is interested......

But, we've got to wait for 8 more compensatory picks to know....

    • Oh contrare, I’d say it says more about Shane Steichen’s skill set as a coach.
    • Excerpt from an article at NFL.com …     ”… One player the Colts can lean on while Richardson gets his sea legs: running back Jonathan Taylor. After last year's hold-in and injury issues, the star running back looks back to his old self. JT bursts through the line like a Mustang on fire, leaving linebackers in his wake. On Sunday, Taylor totaled 12 carries for 103 yards and +55 rushing yards over expected, his most RYOE in a game since Week 15 of 2021. He also forced five missed tackles across 14 touches.    Shane Steichen's decision to bench the star back during the entire fourth quarter because the Colts were in pass mode belies credibility. Even if Taylor isn't a prolific pass catcher out of the backfield, sitting your best offensive weapon for an entire quarter is folly -- hopefully one Steichen doesn't repeat. If defenses are going to sit back to slow Richardson's deep attack, Taylor should gobble up chunk gains.    At this point, Taylor is the most consistent thing going for Indy. The 25-year-old back owns a game-changing gear and can shoulder a massive load. His presence and production should help settle Richardson down during the roller-coaster dips. Taylor hasn't looked fully healthy in a couple of years. He did this past Sunday. The Colts need to ride that stallion.”     The above referenced article kind of echoes my feelings on the matter.
    • Exactly I am confused with that comment by Shane unless that one drop deserved him to be benched. Again coaches know what's the best.
    • I'm not sure why the team thinks JT can't be effective in the passing game.
    • I know that you use the word only once, and I'm sure that you know what it means. But find one example of me contradicting myself please?
