I have enough residual PTSD from the Luck saga that this isn't something I'm just going to ignore. It's also happening at the end of offseason work, and we won't have any opportunity to see Richardson do anything for another month and a half, so that's not fun either. If we saw him take a couple days off, and then come back next week and throw like normal, it would put me at ease. Steichen and Richardson are saying the right things, so I'm not fully freaking out, but I don't like it.

If it were really bad he wouldn’t be able to lift his arm up over his head, I guess, so we’ll just take his word for it and hope for the best. -
There very well could have been a major point of contention on contract language, since 2012 was basically the first real year of the new CBA. They had to work through some of the finer points of rookie contracts, which didn't get as much attention in 2011 because everything had to happen so fast to get ready to play. But to your point, while the Luck contract took longer than anyone wanted, it still got done before training camp, which is all that mattered. Something else that happened that offseason is Luck had to miss one of the minicamps because he was still finishing his final semester at Stanford.
