5'8" 200 lb

Cornerback/Punt returner

He was unimpressive in college

Went undrafted

And has been cut from 4 different teams since 2010.

He was only cut by one team, Baltimore. They waived him and NE signed him to their PS. Then Baltimore signed him to the active roster off of NE's PS. They then cut him and he cleared waivers, so they signed him to their PS and later Detroit signed him to their active roster. So they only team that waived or cut him was Baltimore, but seemingly only because they needed the active roster spot for other players. They clearly wanted to keep him around.

I agree the most likely reason is for KR/PR.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

November 2, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS SIGN DB PRINCE MILLER

The Indianapolis Colts today signed free agent defensive back Prince Miller.

Miller, 5-9, 198 pounds, is in his second NFL season after competing in four games for the Detroit Lions in 2010. He was originally signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent on May 7, 2010. Miller was released by Baltimore and spent a brief period of time on the New England Patriots practice squad, prior to being re-signed to the Ravens active roster. Baltimore then placed Miller on the team’s practice squad and the Lions signed the Duncan, South Carolina native to the team’s active roster for the remaining four contests of the season. Miller finished the 2010 campaign with three tackles and one pass defensed.

In 52 career games at the University of Georgia, Miller totaled 126 tackles (86 solo), one sack, one forced fumble, 11 passes defensed and one interception. He also returned 28 punts for 417 yards with one touchdown.

Sign Undrafted FA CB Prince Miller , probably as punt returner as White Injured

suffered a knee injury
this past Sunday against the
, and if we are to judge
as an indicator of White's status for Sunday against the
, then things aren't looking good.

White's injury might also pave the way for Anthony Gonzalez to get some playing time. It seems clear Gonzo is in the Polian doghouse for some reason or other. Phil Wilson of the Indianapolis Star has suggested for two weeks that Gonzo said something the Polians didn't like, and thus they buried him on the depth chart. I guess this is more proof Jim Caldwell is a coach in name only.

Colts also brought in center Greg Ryan for a workout

Phillip B Wilson

#Colts sign DB Prince Miller, formerly of Detroit, Baltimore, NE. He's a CB and PR. Maybe he'll get to return KOs?

Great sign front office. Lets continue to sign UDFA & other teams Practice Squad players that cant make anyone else's active roster but ours. Smh :cuss:

If they did nothing people would complain about that - but realistically this is just routine roster maintenance signifying very little. But what would you prefer that they do in mid-season, make trades from a position of weakness? Are you expecting another franchise QB to show up? A major move for a veteran CB perhaps, leading to more wins this season but setting back the franchise long-term. Unclench your teeth please, this season was rendered meaningless some time ago.

Yep, nothing like media speculation to prove an assertion.

I would want them to sign someone that would help the Secondary, not sign someone thats not going to make a difference. Matters if the season is over or not. This guy is no better then the other DBs they signed this year and released 3 days later. The season is so meaningless so lets start Prince and Lacey at Cornerback, sit Freeney and start Hughes, Make Brown the #1 running back & sit Wayne and let Gonzo play.. Thats meaningless right? All im saying is someone thats gonna help instead of signing other teams trash practice squad players.

Meaningless in the sense that they should start Thomas and Rucker at CB and let Gonzo and Hughes play (just like they are letting Painter and Brown and others play). They need to find out what they have in certain guys and develop the more promising kids before the next draft. If they were able to trade for a #1 CB in his prime for a fair price, that would be fantastic, but common sense suggests that none are available unless you were to dramatically overpay. You might be willing to overpay to put you over the top in the quest for a SB, but not to win a couple of extra games in a season where they have no chance of making the playoffs. As I said, this pickup is just routine roster juggling like every other team does in response to injuries. Practice squad players - by definition - are the only players available.

But we didn't sign him to help us at CB. We signed him to (hopefully) help us at PR. Why can't you understand that?

Also, who are we going to sign mid-season to help us out at corner? We can't afford anyone big (and there's no one out there anyway), and the trade deadline is over.

These are the moves every team makes. Your argument is baseless. It's anger for the sake of being angry.

You mean to tell me that Polian forgot to turn off both the trade deadline and salary cap options before beginning the season? Massive GM Fail!

/sarcasm :D

Seen the kid play live, he turns little punts into big punts. He turned a 3 yard loss into a 10 yard gain. Not the greatest speed but great agility and elusiveness. Good pickup and should eventually be our punt returner.

Marlin Jackson, he would be cheap.

I don't think it does any good for the team to sign a player who we released because he couldn't stay healthy, and give him playing time over our very young guys who need to develop to see what they can do. They knew Marlin wasn't in our future so they parted ways with him. Might as well keep playing the young guys to try to get an idea of how well they're going to develop to see whether they're going to be a part of our future and if so in what capacity. This way we get a better idea of which positions are the highest priority going into the draft.
