what are your guys' thoughts on aaron maybin 2009 first rounder, undersized, fast. sound like anyone we could use?

We're looking pretty good at LB. I thought it was funny they said he was considered undersized. I guess if you consider him a DE he is, but as a LB he'd be one of our bigger guys.

An undersized pass rushing LBer? Not sure how'd he fit in a Tampa 2 system. He certainly fits the bill as a fast, undersized LBer, though.

Lobbied for us to sign him if he fell in 2009. We played together in high school and I already dropped him a message to come to Indy. He has all the work ethic in the world but spends way too much time on far too many things (Right things, mind you). Lot of charity work back home in Baltimore constantly throughout the Summer.

I would say try this guy since he sounds like mathis but younger. plus he was a beast at penn state.

Different kind of player than Mathis. He relys far more on feet than strength but he has a very, very, quick first step. (Jackwagon gave me my first concussion as a Junior in an Oklahoma) He would be an OLB here for sure.

Hmmm, not really sure with the addition of Simms. Also I think Conner will be solid, Angerer should progress, and with the other LB's ofc Brackett it seems like we might fair well there, (assuming everyone is healthy and Ang and Conner progress). I think Simms will be a beast. Colts probably would focus more on CB or Saftey, maybe even another OL if there is a savvy vet out there. All hypothetical rambling though.

Nothing could really hurt if he's willing to play for a very reasonable price.

So if we go with what we have, I see Angerer, Bracket and Conner as starters with Simms as either back up or could be the starter at WLB. We also have a potentil with Wheeler (SLB) also. Who else do we have as an adequate LB spot? Does this guy just rush from the LB spot or can he actually drop in coverage and/or stop the run? If he can provide either of these 2 things instead of just focusing on his pass rush, we should definately get him for a few reasons.

1. first rounder with speed and talent of some sort

2. the back ups I have seen are less than stellar on our team anyways and they have less natural talent

3. Speed on the special teams.

4. Maybe he has just been in the wrong system

For his minimum salary, I say he should warrant a look. If nothing else, he has to be a special team upgrade.

Hes played for like two or three years now, he hasn't had a sack in the nfl. He is undersized cant stop the run. shouldn't we be looking at players who can help stop the run? Our defense needs to get off the field not be ran over more than usual.

colts are pretty stacked at linebacker.

I think the colts should take a look at maybin... usually i dont like talking in posts like this cause its not like the colts are showing intrest and im only getting my hopes up. But you gotta think if Maybin was on the colts they would have all the depth they need at LB i mean whos behind Pat that anyone here trusts? i do like kerry neal but id take maybin for sure.

Unless he decides to gain weight and atleast be at the 240-250ish range I don't see him being an effective defensive end. Maybe he could play linebacker for us, but even then I don't think he'd be that great. If he really wants to make it in the NFL he can't rely on speed, because as soon as hes touched by an o-lineman it's over cause he can't overpower anyone.

im trying to remember when he was drafted if the bills had a 3-4 or a 4-3. because if he was drafted as an undersized pass rush specialist he may have the body style we go for in this defense. brackett is listed at 235 and maybin is listed at 228. and plus it wouldnt be like we would be asking him to rush the passer all the time. we dont blitz alot anyway.

he was supposed to come into Bills camp at at-least 250, he showed up at 223 and they about gagged on a spoon, they were ticked off like you wouldn't believe.

Saying they were ticked off is an understatement. He was already setting himself up for special teams and backup LB duty at best, then he shows up at the same weight as the coaches mother, not going to cut it. That's a joke people, geez!

My problem with Maybin in the Colts, is that I don't think he's used to doing the things we typically ask our LBers to do... meaning, be a Tampa 2 backer.

Sims is the opposite: he's played the Tampa 2 and excelled in it. We're rarely going to ask our LBers to blitz, which is what suspect Maybin's strength is.

Well ppl it seems like there actually is a slight chance he could become a colt... Colts are interested in him.. along with other teams of course.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=NFL&id=5177&line=209675&spln=1

That's just speculation of course. I was on a Bills board reading about him. Nothing good. He was beat out by two other guys and wasn't enough of a ST player to keep on the roster.

However, he was an upper 1st rounder and came from a U known for them, plus he seems like a Colts LB (smaller but fast). It looks like we have one LB spot open, right?

i dont know about the guy either, but i remember seeing a bills preseason game once and he looked pretty good to me. I noticed as well that he will be making a decision tonight... so hopefully later on an article will pop up on what team he's gonna be on.

He was drafted as a 4-3, however, when the new coach took over they switched to a 3-4.

Which explains why they let him go, the way that article was it seemed like they favored him to sign with the colts and i hope he does that would be the ultimate depth, if brackett goes down pat steps in and maybe takes pats previous spot.

Maybin couldn't hurt, but I wouldn't get into a bidding war. The Colts have only 5 linebackers I see making the roster right now (Brackett, Angerer, Conner, Sims, and Wheeler). Maybin would likely have to stick on special teams and work his way into the system. Depth is a need, so I think he has a chance. I just don't think he'll be a starter, which he might be looking for a chance to be one.

I guess I wouldn't mind him coming here, we learned last year you can never have enough depth on defense. He never really got a chance to do anything in Buffalo so he may go to a team and surprise some people. If nothing else he could help our ST coverage, right?

well its past time that he already made his decision, wheeler himself havent really showed much though i like his size he did have some good hits in the rams game but if the colts did sign maybin that would definitely stir up the water.
