He will just report and get paid while dealing with a "nagging hamstring issue". Just won't get better. Then maybe shoulder soreness, which potentially drives down trade value. They are best to deal him while the can get top return.

He has more leverage than most would think.

True, but as I always say, the Texans are dumb as a box of rocks. They SHOULD trade him now, but they’re apparently stupid enough to think they can still repair the relationship

I think that situation is about to get UGLY. This seems like Easterby drawing a line in the sand. And not just with Watson. He’s sending a message about how the Texans will handle business under his watch. Being that it involves Watson just gives him a chance to show off how deep his power reaches and that no one, no matter how talented, is bigger than his vision of the Texans.

And Easterby is one of those fanatical types that is just waiting for a player to take a public stance against him so he can play the victim and put all the heat on said player. He’ll spin himself off as the good-natured spiritual leader who wants everyone to be on board and that he’s willing to go the distance to keep them there, but the truth seems to be a whole lot darker than that.

What is going on in Houston right now will someday be worthy of one hell of a 30 for 30.

It’ll be funny, and I do enjoy laughing at the Texans, so I’m excited

Does this sound like the Eagles trying to soften the blow of a deal.

GMS are not stupid.  They know Roseman drafted Hurts in the second round for a reason.  Roseman/Lurie/Pedersen, whomever, had buyer's remorse over the Wentz extension and want to move on, for what ever reason.  That's the only reason you draft a potential starting caliber QB when you already have a starter committed in your cap structure.

No reason to pay Philly a premium, and most GMs probably know other GMs wont, so there is no bidding war even amongst multiple bidders.

Philly lost its leverage when they drafted Hurts and benched Wentz.

It does away with the first week of school experience that new signees/draftees must go through

So lets run a hypothetical scenario here.

Lets say we miss out on Wentz(hopefully), Darnold, Carr any other Veteran options mentioned. I prefer to have a vet(not just 1yr bridge) over drafting another guy.(as you do I believe)

The Falcons approach us about Ryan. They say we would really like to wait till after June 1st to complete the trade so they can create $23m in cap space, but will now for this:(maybe they wouldn't do pre June 1st regardless)

Pre June 1st Trade:

2021 2nd round pick

2022 3rd round pick(conditions to make it a 2nd)

For

Matt Ryan

They say if we wait till after June 1st we would do this:

Post June 1st trade:

2022 3rd round pick

For

Matt Ryan

2022 2nd round pick(compensate us for allowing then to save money.)

What do you do? But before you answer there is more to consider.

So by not agreeing to post June 1st trade, you are still in a situation where your QB position is in flux. Still would need to figure that out.

By agreeing to post June 1st trade, you have your QB position handled and can move on with off-season plans built around knowledge of having Matt Ryan coming in.

I agree OTAs are important but there is a decent chance they are virtual again this year. So in that line of thinking Matt Ryan not being available for them is less harmful. Rookies young guys van still learn their roles without Ryan there.

Matt Ryan will pickup playbook quick, he is a pro, the verbiage might change a little bit, bur should be jist fine in picking up everything. Hopefully by training camp things will be a lite closer to back to normal and can get more reps in with the guys.

And again lets take the option of pre June 1st off the table to, lets say ATL wont do the deal till after June 1st.(very plausible)

So the question is do you not do this deal because he wouldn't be available for what more than likely will be virtual OTAs?

If it were up to me I would make a final offer for Wentz and put a time line on it.  They either want to do this or they dont.

Im interested, but we dont have to have him.

I feel like Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa waiting on Eagles

I am fine with Ryan with a handshake agreement that he isn’t a one year wonder(outside of Injury)

Until you actually have another QB that wouldn’t be smart.  You can look for other options and let your offer stand.
