I Worry No Longer

I was always worried when the triplets (Manning, James, Harrison) were in Indy that one day we would have to replace them. How are we gonna replace these guys when the time comes? Harrison was the first to leave and Reggie stepped right in was a suitable replacement for Harrison. Then Edge was gone and Addai was drafted. He was no Edge but he played pretty darn good as a Rookie. I was like OK were alright with Addai. Recently Peyton was released and I am like whtat the heck we gonna do now? I have been researching some kid named Andre Luck and he is gonna be a Colt and he is going to be star. I worry no more. We Colt fans are truly lucky that were getting this kid. The drafting of Luck and the termination of Polian and the rest has giving me hope.

I could not stand our D and the cover 2 crap any longer. I could not stand the boredom every year of watching us in the regular season put up 12 wins and wait for the first playoff game to be sent home. I wanted to just skip the regular season and get to the post season as I knew we would be a playoff team.

I will miss the explosive offense. I will miss the confidence I had that when Peyton had the ball and 2 minutes to go and we needed a score I knew he would deliver. I will miss all the players who were released because they were our players and they allowed me to watch my Colts win a Super Bowl (The only SB since I been alive). I will miss alot but I worry no longer. The Colts will be back and when teams face them it will be a face full of Colts as Pagano said.

The hatred of the cover 2 is odd since we won with it...

..but it can be frustarting..

I dont think you will miss the explosive offense because that's what we are going to have to have playing where we do in gthe division we do..

..and we are drafting one of college football's top passers.

we wont ground and pound

I do not doubt we will pass but I also do not think we can be as explosive as a Peyton led offense with the likes of Marvin, Reggie, Stoke, Dilger and Pollard..............oh and Edge. Well see though, in a few years Luck may have as many weapons and the skill.

I applaud your enthusiasm and hopefulness. We're in the honeymoon stage, like a lot of teams are when hey rebuild. Let's hope we're still in love with the plan this time next year.

This will depend on whether people are grounded in the reality of what is rebuilding. As long as people do not expect to be 14-2 or even 10-6 then we no one will be let down. Now, if people have stars in their eyes and expect us to have a spectacular year and be in the playoffs or SB next year, then there will be disillusioned, discouraged, and upset fans. It's all about being in reality. It's ok and good to be excited about what our team is doing, but we must keep our feet firmly planted on the ground and allow our new team to become used to one another, the coaching staff, and find chemistry. Time Colts fans, this will take time. I have no doubt that I will still be excited next year.

Sure we won with with it but we also lost with it. Horrible pass coverage .....my 7 year old son knew the slant or quick out was coming when the db's were playing 7 yards off. Dont even get me started with the lb's dropping back in to a zone on 3rd and 7 or over and only giving up 12. GOOD RIDDANCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't hate the Cover 2. I think a lot of people consider that scheme to be synonymous with the struggles we've had on defense for so long, but it's not the scheme's fault. The Bears run a lot of Cover 2, and they have a good defense.

The problem has been that, at times, we've rigidly stuck to one scheme throughout an entire game, or over the course of several games, when it obviously wasn't working. The lack of situational play-calling is what I've hated. We did this in the Super Bowl against the Saints, and Brees ripped it up. Then we did it again vs the Saints this season, and Brees ripped it up again. But going back to the Patriots game in 2009, we played tight man coverage with the game on the line, and it helped us get a stop and win the game. We even blitzed. That's why I don't understand what's been going on these last two years, really since the Super Bowl.

Like the 46 defense, teams have figured out what to do against the cover 2.

I figured it out. Throw the ball across the middle where the MLB was cause he just ran downfield 20 yards. That play is always there but if not you can always throw the quick slant since the Corner is 10 yards deep.

That's pretty much it, and if the defense doesn't get a good rush up middle, that's pretty easy to do. QB knows Freeney and Mathis are coming from the outside, and that's all he needs to worry about since he knows there won't be a blitzing LB.

Excellent post! I couldn't agree more .I am more than happy to have a balanced, more boring offense with a better defense if it means more playoff success. I like you loved the 12 wins. But the fact is, in the Manning era we won one Super Bowl when we probably had the talent to win three. And the loss of Manning showed how much her covered up last year. I got sick of no running attack and the inability to stop the run. Winning 12 game and losing in the first round of the playoffs feels no matter than going 5-11, in my book. Neither wins the Super Bowl, which is the goal.

I like what Grigson is doing a lot. He has huge shoes to feel, but he seems to want to get bigger up front at a low price. You can't beat that.

I have been excited about the possibility of Luck since maybe the fall. This kid is a stud and I believe he will prove doubters wrong.

I have a crush.

I have the man crush going. He seriously looks like he could approach Peyton but with some wheels on him. I am say POTENTIALLY. I don't need the naysayers to cry about speculation.

I wouldn't look back TOO fondly on the triplets. While the combination was terrific, the net result was an offense that relied on Marvin and Edge so much that it could be shut down easier. The team that they evolved into after Edge was out for awhile was far more dangerous and interesting. Wayne didn't replace Marvin, he complimented him. Add in Clark and Stokley and they were unstoppable (something that the Pats overtly copied in 2007 to great effect). It didn't necessarily matter who played RB - the defense was preoccupied elsewhere.

The key to all of that was Peyton. Some complain because we were entirely dependent on one player, but I fail to see how NOT having a player like that is an improvement - top QBs make everyone around them better.

Well i guess you have your opinion. I was super happy watching regular season games. The regular season wasn't something to be glazed over for me, I loved every game. Sunday was the best day of the week because I knew I would see amazing football. I'm sure we could have won more super bowls, but we did win one and it was pretty locked up. If not for an onside, maybe it would be two.. doesn't sound so bad to me. We were the luckiest fans in football aside from maybe the Pats I don't count the Steelers. Tied for the most consecutive playoff appearances ever. The more I think about the more I wonder how people just glaze over this as if it was nothing. Its not even like our defense didn't have some amazing times. Our super bowl was in large part due to excellent D. Say what you want about where the team is now but the team of the last decade was simply incredible.
