Do you honestly think fans were booing Andrew Luck, the man himself? As if anyone of us have a problem with him. Boo to retirement. That's all that was booed. I still boo that dicision every time. Just because I dont like that hes retiring (anyone here want this?), doesn't mean I'm booing the individual person.

BOO to the whole situation. Andrew is a good man. No one feels otherwise.

Taking a boo, which is the fans way of disagreeing with a decision, personally, just shouldn't be done unless the situation makes it clear that you're booing an individual. Read between the lines everyone. We boo because we love you.

This is such a great post.

It made me think:

What if, instead of Luck's retirement leaking as it did, what if he addressed the crowd at halftime that he was retiring?

Would not the stadium erupt with the loudest BOO anyone has ever heard?

Of course it would! Because they don't want him to retire!

One thing people are COMPLETELY missing with all of this is that LUCK, HIMSELF, lied directly to the media and thus, to the fans. Claiming he was on target to start week 1, as recently as late last week.  I think that's why people boo'd, at least partially.  At least, that's the part that hurt the most for me.

Remember when Ballard said this in 2017?

“When I first came into the door, one of the things we talked about was building a team and it wasn’t going to be just about one guy. Look, I understand the importance of Andrew Luck. You kidding me? This guy is one of the top-5 quarterbacks in the league.

“But we also got another quarterback we like, in Jacoby Brissett. To me, that’s part of building a team. You have to be able to handle things when things don’t go the way you planned them out to be.”

Ironic, huh?

Or brilliant forethought IF this works out

The word is "lied."  Just like hiding the snowboard issue.

Did Luck really say that? I don't remember it from his presser but I did miss a few seconds here and there.

I'm not angry at Luck or anything, in fact I'm happy he did what's best for himself, but that just seems pretty ignorant . To be fair I guess, I figure he didn't know 100% that he was retiring at that point (probably had a very good idea though).

Yes. He said he felt that was going to be his last time throwing in Lucas oil stadium.

Late last week?

I believe you are incorrect.

go back into the training camp threads and see for yourself. I'm not gonna do your leg work for ya. Heck, he even went thru pre-game warm ups in front of the entire world last week...

yes, yes he did.

I'm just saying the offense went from having one of the very best QBs in the league to not one of the best.  The offense took a MAJOR hit and will need a heck of a lot more than energy.

I hope I'm wrong.  I wanted the Colts to draft Ryan Leaf.

One of those unsurprising moves but still surprising to read, if that makes sense.

Writing was always on the wall though. They were never gonna cut Geathers, Willis, or Hooker. And Ballard's been talking Odum up quite a bit recently.

It's going to be a very VERY disappointing season for Colts' fans.  It's too bad we have all this talent because we are not going to be able to suck enough to draft a top QB prospect and are going to have to get lucky and absolutely no pun intended.

It’s nice to see Geathers completely healthy. He was playing so banged up last year if he stays healthy it will be fun to see how he plays.

You're the one who made the claim so you're the one who should be backing up tour claim. I'm pretty sure I've read the TC threads here and can't recall him saying anything like that last week. Nor did I find anything on google.

It is also nonsense to be focusing on it.

Ya I also wasn't one of the selfish people booing that man off the field and burning his jersey either unlike some people on here I understand that he had to retire and I am happy for him it took strength to go up there and talk about what he is going through and he knew he wouldn't have been any good for the team if he stayed im at peace with him not being here anymore wish the team would have helped him more early in his career by just building him a team but regrettably it didn't work out that way so he retires and we have to hope Brissett can save us.

The booing the night of, I understand and respect.  The burning of the jerseys? that's just plain dumb. Them things cost, what 100-300 bucks? You're just burning you're own money.  And if for some dumb reason the Colts offer a jersey exchange at some point, you're out of luck. (Not that I think they will EVER offer such a thing for simply this matter, its the principle)

Told you.  Academy award.  Of course, I didn't think it was because he was RETIRING...smh.  The thing that makes me mad is the timing, not his decision.  It just doesn't add up to me.

That's from 3 weeks ago.

Quote

Luck told Peter King for his Football Morning in America column on Sunday he's not concerned about being ready for Week 1.

"No," Luck told King when asked if he was worried about not being ready for the season opener. "I certainly believe I will [be ready]. That's certainly the goal."

My only issue is none of those guys are FS.  The only real FS we have is Hooker and the rest are SS.  They just added 2 safeties today and I'm expecting Kai Nacua to get that backup FS spot hopefully.   They like to have  big frames on the back end which is probably why they got rid of Farley.

    • Read this this morning. Thought it was interesting    https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/indianapolis-colts/news/colts-rams-nfl-draft-trade-offer-revealed-rejected/be019bcd2ee81b6ffeb4656e     "This was the rejected trade offer from the Rams to the Colts in the first round:     Rams get: Nos. 15, 191   Colts get: Nos. 19, 99, 154   While that's the kind of deal Chris Ballard would be expected to take in the past, the Colts clearly had an eye for edge rusher Laiatu Latu.   It's clear that it would have taken much more in the offer for the Colts to move off the chance of selecting the prospect they believe was the best defender in the entire draft.   There were a few viable prospects available at the time so it would have made sense for the Colts to trade back.   But this only proves how convicted they were in draft Latu."     Not too surprised we turnt that down as it has us losing on the draft chart by a little bit, but does show the conviction they had in Latu.
    • Offense wins in the league now and to take it a step further the QB is by far the lost important piece on any team.    So, on offense you need the best possible QB with the best possible supporting cast and on defense you need players who can affect the play of the opposing QBs directly.
    • This is definitely an issue. So, either Ballard is A.) Cheap and he doesn't want to spend money on FAs (even with injuries happening) or B.) He can't build a competitive enough team to attract any worthwhile FA's after 7 going on 8 years now.    If AR and the current team can't attract FAs that could theoretically get a starting job at the S position for a year, then we are in big trouble according to the opinions of the players of the NFL. Personally, I think Ballard just avoids FA so much that he doesn't want to bring outside help in. He wants to be known as the GM who builds his team from the draft.   Wish the local media would call him out on this.
    • I think the Colts have the money to be competitive for a good free agent safety.  I think bringing in one of them may depend on whether a player like Simmons wants to play for the Colts.  They may be hoping to sign for a team with a better chance of making the playoffs.   So I don’t know if Ballard is making a statement or not?     Hope my answer makes sense to you….
