Could we take Shaq Thompson in the 1st?

Recommended Posts

I think they will be locked in to BPA

I mean yeah, that's obviously the best strategy, but our D-Line's in bad shape. We're pretty desperate for a good, young DT/DE IMO. I could see us reaching for a D-Lineman actually. I think its one of those obvious situations where every other team knows we're taking a D-Lineman.

Not if grigson thinks the guys we have are good to go

I wouldn't think so. We're pretty much locked into taking a D-Lineman IMO. Some will argue this, but I don't see anyway we don't.

The team has plenty of D-lineman that are good. Safety is a much greater need at the moment as is ILB.

I'd like it with our first pick if we traded back. I don't think the value is there in the first, but to get him and another draft pick would be sweet. The jack of all trades, master of none doesn't scare me as long as we intend for him to be our SS. Have Pagano work with him and he'll be a master in no time.

As to Thompson I'd ideally like to trade down to get him. As to this whole talk of we are desperate for a good young D Linemen and that every other team knows we are picking one......That sounds like someone just craving for a big playmaking D Lineman and it sounds like they are willing to spend a 1st round pick on a D Linemen even if the value is not there......Horrible strategy and thank god Grigson knows that. He may pick a D Lineman in the 1st but that's because he believes that said D Lineman was worth our 1st round pick

"Need" is a terrible judge of talent.

There is only one first round safety and that's Collins from Alabama.

And, depending on what you read/heart/believe,  there are no first round inside linebackers either.

Just because those are our two biggest needs,  doesn't mean we take one in the first round.

I certainly hope we don't.

There was a BR article the other day saying he'd be a good fit for the Colts. I don't think he's a first round guy. I have him going in the early/mid 2nd.

Dynamic athlete no doubt.

I hope we don't.    If we love him, I'd prefer we trade back into the top of the 2nd, collect pick(s) and then take Shaq.

I'm not a fan.   I think he's more of a safety,  but the kid has publicly said he wants to be a linebacker.

And as for being a dynamic athlete,  he surprisingly tested poorly at the combine....  a disappointment.

I don't see why so many are projecting Thompson as a Safety. From what I am reading and seeing he has not played Safety since high school with the exception of a couple snaps vs Stanford(though he was recruited #1 in the nation at that position...But that was out of high school).....He played some Nickel at Washington and RB of course. IF its his weight that has so many projecting him as a Safety....well thenthat's just a bad reason

I didn't say need was a good judge of talent.  I also didn't say they should only draft an ILB or S in the first round.  If Collins is there at 29 (he won't be) I absolutely think they should draft him.  Of course I want them to draft the best player available too, so if that's a DT and it's not really close then yeah draft the DT.

    • Excerpt from an article at NFL.com …   ”… One player the Colts can lean on while Richardson gets his sea legs: running back Jonathan Taylor. After last year's hold-in and injury issues, the star running back looks back to his old self. JT bursts through the line like a Mustang on fire, leaving linebackers in his wake. On Sunday, Taylor totaled 12 carries for 103 yards and +55 rushing yards over expected, his most RYOE in a game since Week 15 of 2021. He also forced five missed tackles across 14 touches.    Shane Steichen's decision to bench the star back during the entire fourth quarter because the Colts were in pass mode belies credibility. Even if Taylor isn't a prolific pass catcher out of the backfield, sitting your best offensive weapon for an entire quarter is folly -- hopefully one Steichen doesn't repeat. If defenses are going to sit back to slow Richardson's deep attack, Taylor should gobble up chunk gains.    At this point, Taylor is the most consistent thing going for Indy. The 25-year-old back owns a game-changing gear and can shoulder a massive load. His presence and production should help settle Richardson down during the roller-coaster dips. Taylor hasn't looked fully healthy in a couple of years. He did this past Sunday. The Colts need to ride that stallion.”
    • Exactly I am confused with that comment by Shane unless that one drop deserved him to be benched. Again coaches know what's the best.
    • I'm not sure why the team thinks JT can't be effective in the passing game.
    • I know that you use the word only once, and I'm sure that you know what it means. But find one example of me contradicting myself please?
    • At 0:57 and at 2:14 also that was a nice throw to JT and converted to FD, so whats that talk that they wanted to go pass only and JT is not fit for pass.?
