Money, money, money,.....MONEY

Recommended Posts

I keep seeing there a lot who want to sign Suh. I know his talent level is high but if his price tag is too high I don't think it would be a good idea. We need a few players across the board and to spend that much money on one player would put us short somewhere else. We need play makers, not a play maker.

Just to play devil's advocate, it would also be easy to over-pay SEVERAL players, whose individual contracts might be smaller, but who collectively amount to just as great a cap hit. And if none of these players are TRUE game-changers, then you have committed the same amount of money to them, or more, except without the game-changing ability of the ONE player, who you already know is a game-changer. So, in a way, spending on a guy like Suh is a safer bet--assuming he doesn't do what so many other high-priced free agents have done down through the years, and start to suck as soon as he gets his monster contract.

Example: Would you rather have Landry, RJF AND Walden...or Suh for the same price? Quantity or quality?

Those contracts you mentioned are easy contracts to get out of with little damage done. If the Colts were to sign Suh it wouldn't be that type of contract. If the Colts do sign Suh I wouldn't like it but as a Colt fans I would accept it and move on. I really think that Suh is staying where he is at so it's more than likely all this is for not.

I just highly doubt that Grigs will pump all that money into one guy.  He likes to get value out of multiple players .

I could see him bringing in guys like Hali, Ngata, Spiller, Franklin, etc before I see him putting all that money into

Suh.

I'm guessing these might colts be signing:

Mark Ingram:  I really think the Colts will look hard at him and he won't cost as much to obtain

Pernell McPhee: regardless of overpaying, he's an agressive 26 year old OLB that can rush the passer (he will be a colt)

Clint Boiling: Cheaper than Lupati and will sure up a need right away

Marcus Gilchriest: Young and decent player(soldifies ss for years to come)

If a pass rusher is available at 29 they will take him. Possibly Armstead(this will complete the pass rushers for years to come)

Also, I'm saying if Holliman is hanging around in the third, the Colts will draft him for FS. They might trade back from second round or trade up in the third, but I'm banking on him being taken by the colts. I think Paggs might view him as Ed Reed. I know he's got tackling issues but I think that can be coached to change and he is a ball hawk. (this would solidify safeties for years to come)

I'm guessing Hughes will start with Jones at end. Chapman will rotate at nose but with who?

This is the key imo. I'm leaning towards Wilfork if he is released.

So if you add:

Ingram

McPhee

Boiling

Gilchriest

Wilfork

Armstead

Holliman

that's solid additions and it shouldn't break the bank

Thoughts?

I think its to sign several really good players. We can sign Fairley, Knighton, Moore, and Iupati and still have plenty of room to re-sign Luck, Hilton, Fleener, and Castanzo I would think. Especially considering the cap going up every year. With the cap going to be like 10 million higher than a couple years ago it basically means we can get one big time player for free lol.

    • Ha. Yep.    If ya ain't got one though, ya have to keep hittin' the slots until you win.
    • Yeah, like Bo Nix??     So much over reaching for QBs.
    • The Matt Gay hate is a convenient outlet for Chris Ballard hate. Which explains why it's mostly unreasonable.   However, I don't understand why they're putting him out there right now. He's evidently hurt, and he needs some time to get right.
    • Speaking of Baker:   I've been skeptical that Bryce Young can overcome the marks against him, so I'm not exactly waiting for him to turn it on. But I was skeptical about Baker as well, for different reasons. He never looked as ineffective and incapable as Bryce has looked so far, but he's a good example of a player who a) was in a bad situation, and b) still had to get better at QBing.
    • Well, I thought the Olubi kid showed some solid play making ability with good tackling so i'm surprised they pushed rookie Carlies, who missed a fair amount of time, ahead of him so quickly. So one could say the position has been addressed by drafting a LB each of the last 2 seasons with guys our people like.  Carlies did play 46 snaps Sunday. Like our other Gus led LB's he didn't seem to be where he needed to be when needed. But what the hey, that becomes much more likely when you have 2-3 seasons under your belt, With a d-line playing well in front of you.     It wouldn't surprise me at all if Williams throws for 250+ with 3 touchdowns. The little devil on my shoulder tells me it would be a good thing, just another nail in Gus's coffin. And of course that is a sad place to be. lol
