You can win and not get there in time. Quick passes do that.

It wasn't even that, Palmer just outmaneuvered him with step ups, side steps, and straight up breaking his tackles on a couple occassions. Freeney got there quick, Palmer of all people just out muscled and maneuvered him when he did. He looked more like a straight wrecking ball than the chaser he's used to being, couldn't quite turn on a dime like he used to be able to and the QB was able to sidestep him for it.

I would hardly state he got out muscled, out maneuvered yes. I remember one time where Palmer ducked down and Freeney just whiffed. He got there though. And for some of the other posters in this thread, I do not remember seeing him in on running downs, which is how we'd use him if we got him back. Did you see him in on running plays SkyBane?

Nope, he was a straight QB rush specialist, he only came in on passing downs to go after Palmer. Honestly the more you watch it, the more you realize that it's not the acceleration that seems to have gone in his waning years, it's the brakes and handling. Against a statue like Peyton (who he will get to face twice), he should do fine. Any QB with any maneuverability should be able to sidestep him though, as he simply can't seem to stop once he gets going.

Too small to be a DE in the 3-4 Defense

Mathis actually gave effort to make the conversion, Freeney didn't. At times looked like he was just out there going through the motions

He wouldn't even try to play run defense but would go full speed when it came to pass rushing. And it's funny cause he didn't fit the 3-4 but yet signs with another 3-4 team after being on one

just stop posting

This is a joke if a post. Freeney a work ethic should not be questioned

This is probaby a topic that requires more specific analysis than generalizations....but in general, I associate SD as scheming their Dline to penetrate, where we tend to scheme to stack...not always....but I'm not sure SD ever schemes to stack, so it's different to me.

i doubt you know our d, let alone the chargers

i believe the Chargers ARE a 3-4 defense. That is why Peyton always struggled against the Chargers because he always struggled with 3-4s.

atleast we would be upgrading the position

Eh, not exactly. Brown didn't look so good out there in SD so far. Looks to be back to his old non-factor self

Early in the season so we'll see how that plays out but looks like last season might've been the best he'll have and his career and of course it was a contract year so that's expected for a player to ball out then

Holy crap man he had 2 carries and the 2nd carry he had he was literally tackled 1/10th of a second prior to hand off, The other carry Hardwick whiffed on a cut block which allowed the linebacker to come right on through and make the tackle on an inside zone play, He could not take it wide right around the Right Tackle and the backside was covered

Hmm, interesting

Sounds like a RB we have in Indianapolis doesn't it?

Honestly cant believe anyone would entertain that thought. He does not fit our D scheme.

Technically not true in my opinion, he is a pass rusher...a pure pass rusher only, He can do that standing up or in a 3 or 4 point stance. Problem is injuries seemed to have taken there toll to an extent and he is literally a liability against the run, If coaching staff wanted they could have brought him back for a cheaper price and put him in the game in obvious pass rush situations only...except in 2012 he produced only 5 sacks in 14 games played and noticeably did not look close to 100% after he had his leg dove on by J'marcus Webb  to slow down his pass rush, I do think his best years are behind him though

Yes is a great pass rusher but from the outside totally unable to seal the edge. not going to route out anyone off our D line . JMO

I totally agree Jay, but then again Mathis is not an edge setter either.  I would trade a 7th for Freeney as a rental.....then he will go on IR with that ankle again...
