79 Walker, Josh G 6-5 328 23 R Middle Tennessee State

I just went back and watched the entire second half the kid is a roadgrader.

He struggles a little bit in space missed the block on the screen or that would have been a big play. And doesn't always get the block and the second level but he puts the guy in front of him on skates.

He gets a good push off the line on running plays that is for sure. There is no doubt in my mind Boom would have got the TD if Pep would have run behind 79 he pancaked his guy in the endzone. He seems to have the foot work to pull can do it all as far as rush blocking. He was getting a good push every play.

I would say he looks a little lost in the passing game but nothing to bad I bet he just wasn't asked to do it much in college. I was impressed. I would say practice squad for sure. His run blocking is very impressive.

I haven't had the chance to watch it again. So glad you did, and gave it some study.

Luck was sacked one time and it was Cherilus there was barely any pressure from Castanzo's side I just watched every possession from the game last night.

Luck was sacked the 1st time at 1:42 of 2nd Quarter.......Cameron Jordan...Off Cherilus

Luck was sacked at 1:27 of 2nd Quarter.....Junior Gallete...Off Castonzo

I guess my question is if it is per usual why does our OC continue to put him in that position at least send him out to drag a defender with him if he can't block. I am not a fan of Pep

As time goes on I find it hard to keep defending him I hope he has it together when the season starts .

I noticed Walker during the game... had to look up who that #79 was.  He did play well, I like his tenacity and he seems to have excellent strength.  He needs to work on his technique some, bends a little to much at the waist and his feet get narrow once he's engaged.

If Nixon is still unable to go the first week of the season, I could see Walker making the 53 man roster and then being put on PS when Nixon returns.

For the rest, Mewhort is playing very well for a rookie and Thornton looks light years ahead of where he was last year.  Thornton needs to work on his power when there is a guy directly over him, he is not displaying that pop to push him back but when he has an angle on the guy he is devastating and such quick feet for a guy his size.

I've been saying Pep should call for more angle blocking, This Power Blocking is just not getting it done, It may someday but ya have to go with what works and Angle Blocking should help immensely

Gavin, I don't disagree, but that is one of those things that is easy to say on paper but hard to implement, especially at this stage because it would require an entirely new offensive line play book, it's not just a matter of switching defenders with the center or tackle.  Sometimes the defender is going to be lined up directly over the offensive player and he needs to learn to pop that guy and drive him off the LOS.

The problem with the first string run game is Pep won't stop trying to pull Mewhort. Trent had 3 carries for 19 yards then when he the LG 2 carries for 0 yards and he had to fight for 0; Then the loss when the guy met him for the hand off didn't help,

Did the same thing to Bradshaw on 2 carries one at the goalline pulling the LG.

It is Mewhort it's not his fault he is a T and will probably be our RT of the future but he can't make that block I understand it was one of Pep's favorite plays at Stanford but you gotta know who you have on your team if you are starting Mewhort at LG that play isn't working

That^ has always been my criticism of Pep Hamilton.  Insanity has been defined as, "trying the same thing, time and again, expecting a different, perhaps better, outcome, and then being disappointed when it doesn't happen".

He fits that definition perfectly. It isn't Mewhort fault he played T his entire career. I believe he will be our RT of the future but if he is playing LG this year Pep has to understand there are going to be some limitations and pulling him to make that block is one of them. He gets there a step slow and then really doesn't seem to know what to do once he is there. I have watched it for 2 games over and over.

I am going to go back tonight and see how I am assuming Louis did with it vs the Giants or whoever started at LG. I also want to see just how bad Walker was at T because he looked really good vs the 2's and 3's vs the Saints at G. He was knocking people back off the ball on nearly every play and he could pull. I am by no means saying he would be as successful vs 1's. He definitely stood out vs the back ups.

@Colts_Comments: According to Pro Football Focus, Anthony Castonzo is yet to give up a QB pressure in 53 pass blocking snaps this preseason. #Colts

He's been the lockdown LT people want, at least to this point. He hasn't faced a really good pass rusher yet, though. He has struggled with speed guys in the past, which he'll face a lot of this season.

I'm not disagreeing with this statement, I just wonder what on earth makes you think that.  I have not read or have seen anything to indicate that is what the Colts are thinking.  It seems if the plan was to move him to RT some time in the future they would have left Thornton at LG and put Mewhort at RG.

Again, I'm not disagreeing, I've just read that from you a lot and I wonder what makes you say that.

Read it somewhere because of Cherilus contract timing something like that. Could be fartherest thing from truth article made sense to me. I'll look for the link after work. They block everything surprised I can get on here. It's almost like. they don't think being a fan is a full time job

That's okay, don't waste anytime looking it up.  I just had not read it or heard anything about it.  From a speculation stand point it makes sense... he was a college tackle and teams often start at guard and then move to RT.  The Colts did it with Diem.

    • I almost spit my coffee out reading this a few times, lol!  I love sarcasm and I especially love it when there is some truth to it!  Well played Sir!
    • I guess the whole question is the merits of the report. You report on his diabetes with tons of guesses and speculations and WITHOUT taking the side of the person who's been affected here and who's living and dealing with that condition. You report on the player being uncoachable WITHOUT taking the opinion of his coaches about being coachable or not(and BTW from what I've heard both from Colts and Texas coaches, this is resoundingly NOT TRUE). You report about him being immature and honestly, everything I've seen on the surface suggests the opposite. You report about his combine performance by giving it a pretty harsh reading(the video is in this thread and the account of what happened by McGinn is in this thread... People can actually go and look at what happened and make their own mind about whether the characterization of that workout was fair or not. I will just say you can represent the player stumbling in a drill and going again in various different ways and McGinn chose a specific way to represent it. It was the most negative way you could choose).    You know I had my own reservations about that outburst by Ballard at the presser, but the more I'm learning about Mitchell the more I actually believe in what Ballard was saying and the less merit those reports have in my mind. Maybe I have my own unconscious biases too, now that I have vested interest in Mitchell actually being good for us. I don't know     I guess ultimately none of it matters. AD's success or failure won't depend on some pre-draft reports... it will depend on how he handles himself from now on, how hard he works, his drive to be great and our staff's ability to get the best of him.
    • if he is healthy and they make the playoffs in spite of, say, Houston being the 1 or 2 seed in a loaded afc, you think Irsay would contemplate firing him? That would mean we took another step forward and AR proved he could stay healthy and play ball. I don’t see his seat being hot in that scenario at all. I see the organization being fired up with that and ready to hit the offseason hard to take the next step forward.
    • Hmmm.   ”Healthy excuses will be hard to come by.”    Really?   Richardson, who had less than a thousand snaps in college, then had roughly 200 snaps his rookie year.  There’s one.   And Houston has Stroud who had a great rookie year.  Aren’t most media predicting Houston and JVille ahead of Indy this year?  That’s two without any trouble.     I just think insisting on a division title because a fan thinks it’s time doesn’t stand up to much scrutiny.   Sorry, just my two cents…. And often not worth that much.
    • For me absolutely it does. If Richardson stays healthy excuses will be hard to come up with. As positive as I am with Ballard at some point we have to start winning. He bet on himself by bringing in his own home grown talent this year, what he does at safety in the coming month and a half has me worried as well. We were so close to winning the division last year with a back up QB that my expectation is winning the AFC south this year.    If they make it into the wild card game and lose then the seat is just as hot for me. If they advance further and make a Cinderella run then I’m fully back on board.
