When are people gonna figure out that the NFL has been and will always be about the pocket passing QB. Time after time after time teams try this running/dynamic/athletic QB crap and time after time after time...it fails. QB's like Manziel are typically 1 or 2 yr. wonders until they're forced to play the position as it was meant to be played and then they fall off the face of the Earth. Manziel may have a little bit of an advantage because he does throw an accurate ball, but IMO he does not have a strong arm. Time will tell with him, but I certainly will not be surprised if he's a total and complete flop in the pro's.

To be clear....  part of the reason Manziel projects to #1 overall now, is NOT that he's the best talent....   it's that Houston has the first pick.   Lots of NFL types think the Texans want to trade back and still take Manzel.  

 

Honestly,  no QB at this point in the process excites me.   Not even sure any player has grabbed my attention in any special way.

 

That said....   when there's a draft like that,  my instinct says,  take an OL.   Especially a tackle.   Especially a Left Tackle.

 

So,  as we sit here in Mid-January, the two guys who have my eye are Jake Matthews of A&M and a late bloomer, Greg Robinson of Auburn.

 

I'm still open to having my mind changed, and it likely will over the next 4 months....   but to me, those are the two most interesting and potentially safest picks at the top of the draft.....

I hope they take Manziel more than anything. I just do not see his game converting to the pro game. So much of his game is flash. His running around bouncing off defenders will not happen in the NFL. He will have more of an adjustment to the NFL game than Bridgewater or Bortles.

 

I really feel that Bridgewater is the best of the bunch. He reminds me a lot of Aaron Rogers. He may take a year to get accustomed to playing under center, but I would feel comfortable drafting him.

I don't disagree with you at all. Manziel is going to struggle if his Oline isn't great. Cant dance like that in the NFL. But Bridgewater and Bortles aren't first round talent in my opinion.
