Booger wasn't a free agent he was a trade.  I'd say the best since Reggie Wayne re-signed or since we signed Redding last year his leadership has been a big need for the defense and helped a lot with the move to the three.  Before that you would probably have to go back to AV in 2006. I'd agree that Toler is looking really good too.

Jim Harbaugh was a free agent if I'm not mistaken... and that turned out well for the team.
