Chris Johnson Signs with Jets

I am going to predict the Jets will be in the playoffs

I think if Vick plays well and stays healthy yes....and by that meaning if they get 14 games out of him and he can put up some decent numbers and not have a bad turnover year like a couple years back I think their defense is good enough to win 9 games and put them right in the mix....they aren't winning that division though...and if Vick doesn't start...I have 0 faith in the youngster.

My only question with Vick is he is going to a team where the HC is not offensive minded which is what he was used to in Philly with Reid and Kelly. I really thought Kelly's O suited him extremely well until he got hurt. He will now have to play within a very run heavy O. I will be interested to see how he does.

They would have to win the division to get in IMO. They won't beat out the teams in the West or North for the two WCs.

I think it will be close. Miami could edge them out as well but the AFC West is playing the NFC West so that will help the Jets.

A run-heavy offense would be good for Vick I think. It usually is for mobile quarterbacks.

That is true but I think with Vick it takes him time to read a defense. That is why I thought Kelly's O really suited him. It was fast paced and the decisions with the ball were really simple. It also took advantage of his athleticism. I am sure the Jets will come up with something for him but I don't know if it would be as good of a fit simply because Ryan does not know how to develop QBs.

I see Vick getting hurt around week 7 or 8 & Smith taking over, throwing picks, & derailing their entire season myself. Bye Bye sexy Rexy.

NE will dominate their division & stomp the Jets twice very easily IMO. Different season same exact result. Johnson is still good just not good enough to save Ryan's job.

We think that...but I don't know if the Chargers OR Chiefs make it back to the playoffs. I also think with the offseason moves the Jets have leap frogged the Dolphins. I think the Cincy and Baltimore get in.

Certainly early but I think Denver, NE, Indy, Balt. win their divisions. Cincy gets one wild card and the other is down to Jets, Chiefs, Chargers, and Dolphins....and as a black horse I think Houston makes a run at it too. We all know EVERY year teams falter down the stretch but usually it comes down to the final couple weeks and there is a pile up of 500 teams. I think the Jets will be one of those teams.

A good post QB & your reasoning is sound, but Vick just loves to scramble too much. It's in his DNA & leopards can't change their spots. I have nothing against Vick personally. I just know when the pocket breaks down he loves to run as his 1st impulse.

I sincerely hope that I am wrong, but I doubt it.

I think the Jets offensive coordinator is Marty Mornhinweg and he was the coordinator in Philadelphia for a few years when Vick was there, so at least he knows his strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah his scrambling is the reason he's had, what, one full season in his NFL career? It's insane. But if he proves to be a better option in training camp then Geno then I'm sure Rex won't hesitate to start him. Will he play the entire season? That is the question. Having the two Chrises to hand the ball to should help him out a bit though.

Yep, the Jets commitment to the running game makes Vick's job of moving the chains a heck of a lot easier & their o-line is usually stout in protection. Vick's health like you say is always the unknown variable or the fly in the ointment that no one can get a handle or grip on.

I think this is a good signing for the Jets. Chris Johnson is surely better than anyone the Jets had last year, IMO. He is explosive and can catch the ball out of the backfield. I hope he does not bring a Santonio Holmes type of attitude -- bad work ethic, trouble in the locker room...

I hope Geno Smith beats out Vick. I have no problem with Vick himself but I am pulling for the kid because I think he has some potential. It is not a popular opinion.  I don't believe Smith played as poorly as his stats would suggest. Numbers and a few highlights (or lowlights) on ESPN don't tell us everything. I am not a Jets fan but living in NY, I saw almost all his games. Despite his many turnovers, he showed poise for a rookie; he never got down on himself or blamed teammates. He has a strong arm and throws a nice deep ball. He needs to work on his accuracy and on reading defenses. He had almost no weapons last year. He was throwing to the likes of Jeff Cumberland, Jeremy Kerley, David Nelson and a injured Kellen Winslow Jr.  Santonio Holmes was there but it was almost as if he wasn't. Now that the Jets have signed Decker and Johnson, let's see what the kid can do in his second year. Just my opinion.

It's a good signing but I'm not really seeing the shift-of-power aspect that some others are seeing. CJ2K isn't that type of guy anymore. The Jets' defense has been very good (even when the overall team has not) but they've lost some pieces that they haven't really replaced yet. If the season started tomorrow, Millner (who was a bit disappointing last season) and Kyle Wilson (better suited as a nickel back) would be their starting CBs. Everyone's saying they'll draft a corner for Rex but not a lot of rookie corners can come in and make an immediate impact.

Divisional games are always close and tough to call, but at best, with their schedule, I'm not seeing more than 8 or 9 wins again. That won't be enough to win the division. WC maybe.

^THIS^

Vick is going to get hurt, and Geno will have to come in and hand the ball off when he starts throwing picks.

Jets aren't winning jack.

Jets have a defense that can make you hurt.

We love to make Vick and Ryan jokes, but they are not a passing team. You guys should know this by now - Ryan likes to run the ball down your throat.

Yes, they are Bogie. But, if the Jets offense sputters, their defense is gonna grow tired of winning games strictly on turnovers alone which spells disaster in the Playoffs.

Defense wins championships, but the Jets need consistent points week in week out to even make the Playoffs, which is why I'm not sold on Gang Green in NY.

Oh you hear that?

That's the sounds of Pats fans shaking in fear that the J-E-T-S are going to give them a run for the money this year.

Oh yeah, it's on. Who wants to play Donkey Kong Country now?

It doesn't frighten me, the Jets need a lot more than just a veteran RB with lots of miles on the tires coming off an MCL surgery.  LT was a bigger offseason acquisition and that didnt put them over the top.  CJ is a solid option, but hes not a game changing back like Peterson, Lynch or Charles.

Im more nervous about the Jets defense, because they have a couple of studs across that D line and 2 first round picks in that secondary.  Decker is a great #2 receiver, but im certainly not losing sleep at night thinking about covering him as the opponents top WR, especially with Vick and Geno throwing him the ball.  Im pretty sure Revis can handle him.... or Browner, Dennard, Ryan or McCourty.   Heck even Kyle Arrington could potentially cover him well.

The receivers "arsenal" of weapons on offense certainly doesnt have me losing sleep.  Its that defense, but even that has taken quite a few hits losing Revis and Cromartie.  Ed Reed isnt the savior there at like 36 years old, but hes an excellent veteran that can provide leadership and educate the rest of the guys.  His days of being a game changer are behind him, but hes still a savvy vet and im sure will get a few players here or there, but he certainly is beyond taking over a game like he was in his youth.

The Jets are two years away from being a solid contender again I feel.

Oh yeah, I forgot that the Texans cut Ed Reed loose. His best days are behind him. You're right about that JM51. Rex is a great DC, but as an HC, not so much. Nice reply BTW!

the east just got interesting

The East has been interesting for the last few years now. It was the second best division in the AFC last year. And despite folks wanting to always credit the Pats impressive record every year with how weak their division is, they did not blow out any divisional team last year. In fact they could have easily lost their first match up with the Bills which came down to a game winning drive at the end and their first match up with the Jets which took a late game pick to seal the victory. And of course their late season loss to the Fins cost them the #1 seed.

I expect the division to be even more competitive this year with the moves all the teams have made. Even the Bills have done some nice things this off-season. While I do see the Pats taking the division, it will not be a cake walk. The games will be close and competitive like last year. And I can see a WC coming out as well.
