Is Coby suffering from rookie jitters? Over at the Indystar Mike Chappel reported today that Coby dropped 2 more passes. Coby's scouting report stated that he had excellent hands so maybe he is having a concentration problem. One camp report stated that Robert Mathis blew him up on the first day of hitting. Fleener is smart and should not have problems focusing on the plays but maybe the speed and power of NFL players is getting to him.

No big deal. Even the most sure-handed NFL players drop passes, let alone a rookie TE with high expectations who is getting closer and closer to his first NFL action. As for getting blown up, that happens to everyone.

Not real worried about him getting blown up by Mathis. His drops are a different story though. He has had quite a few in camp. That's likely why Arians said he has to improve as a receiver. Yes, everyone has a drop from time to time, but Fleener has had several so far and they are clean drops. Balls that should absolutely be caught. I don't think Chap would even bother reporting it if wasn't happening so often.

My camp sources tell me he's been having nightmares this week that he's catching passes from curtis painter and it's made him a little apprehensive during the day to fully haul anything in... After a few weeks and no sign of a red #7 jersey he should be fine....

It's far from ideal. Thankfully, as a rookie, he has plenty of time to improve so there's no need to worry yet. I've been watching old Hard Knocks recently and Dwayne Bowe was terrible at catching in his first camp.

He's a rookie. Again, these guys aren't going to be finished products right off the bat. Just stay patient. If I recall even Dallas Clark dropped a pass or two during his time here.

I would guess it's a little of trying too hard and just getting used to the speed of the other players. Most rookies do take a while for the game to slow down as they say.

fleener will be fine it's still preseason. he's still 6'6 255lbs with 4.5 speed and a match up nightmare for opposing b's.

IMO rookies Fleener and Allen will be a significant upgrade over last year's veterans Clark and Tamme. Rookies are not finshed products, but that doesn't mean they won't play well. Ken Dilger's rookie year (1995) was his most productive year in a ten year career (42 receptions, 635 yds. 15.1 average, 4 TDs).
