Week 17 Jaguars @Colts, Jan. 3, 2021, 4:25 EST

Message added by Nadine,

Please be mindful of your fellow posters.  Don't use the game day thread to vent or call out fellow posters as either homers or haters.  It's obnoxious and ruins the thread. Plenty of time for new threads after the game for expressing your point of view.

Happy New Year, everyone! :fireworks:

We have reached the end of the regular season but not the end of football for your Indianapolis Colts. The 10-5 Colts will make the postseason if they win and get one of the other playoff contenders to lose. The Colts also have a chance to win the division if the Titans lose.

The Colts will play the Jaguars who come to Indy with a 1-14 record and have clinched the #1 spot in this year's draft. The Jags have nothing to play for except pride. Their only win was against the Colts in Jacksonville. However, they face a more determined Colts team this time who intend to make playoffs and go far.

Who won't be playing for the Colts:

Rock Ya Sin

Khari Willis

Will Holden

Anthony Castonzo (IR)

Who is out for the Jags:

(WR) DJ Chark

(RB) James Robinson

(WR) Collin Johnson

Good luck and enjoy the game! :colts:

Trevor Lawrence is really scared watching this game on his couch right now.

Thanks again for opening the thread, NFLfan.  Happy New Year, everyone!  Hoping we start the new year off with an entry into the playoffs.  We should win without too much difficulty today, but the Jags always play us tough.  27 - 10 Colts.

Never understood flexing us to the late games when the TV coverage looks exactly the same as it would had we been in the 1PM slot?  It's not like any more people are going to be able to see the game so no need for the added drama.  Oh well.  Whatever...

GO Colts!  All day.  Every day.  :coltshelmet:

You're welcome. How does a Jersey guy become a Colts fan before the 1969 Super Bowl against a NY/NJ team?  haha   (Were the Jets playing in NJ at the time?)

I was a student in college when I chose the Vikings. My own hometown team (the Giants) had just won the Super Bowl in 1990. There were fans of the Bills, Jets, and Giants all over but I chose an out-of-town team.  :)

Edit: and go Vikings with whatever result @NFLfan would like them to have.

Go Steelers, not Brown's.

This is going to be a high blood pressure day.

It thought maybe you were so confident in the Bills that you'd root against the Steelers

Nope, need all the options we can get today.

Haha...it was actually somewhat similar for me in that everyone else (my brother, best friend, etc) all had favorite teams and I didn't.  It was just before the '69 Super Bowl and the Colts were heavily favored to win (and I wanted a winner), so I chose the Colts as my favorite team.  We all know how that worked out, lol.  Pure embarassment for 9 year old me, haha.

No, the Jets were still at Shea at the time.  To this day I still loathe Joe Willie...still have no idea how he made it to the HOF.  I still think it was solely because of the win over the Colts to make the AFL legit.

Is there a thread for the games the Colts need or is it OK to post in here.

We've done it a few times in here before since it's all relevant.

Just sayin'...

I think given how much 3 games impacts on ours later it might be a good topic to post a combined response into.

There is also:

Good stuff. I love to hear about how people became fans of certain teams. I was not born yet when Super Bowl 3 took place. But for years I heard about it on WFAN sports radio in NY.

Good for you that you did not change allegiances.

Everyone of these games is starting out very bad for the colts. This is what happens can when you don’t take care of business.

Not going to get concerned until after the half on any of these games.

Brown's up 7-0 and driving.  The are dominating the S Steelers.

Be tough for Pit to win this.

Pitt can come back from being down 17.  At least I think I remember them doing that once.  Lol

I don't see it happening without Ben.   But it is only the 2nd quarter.

Bummer to see all the teams we need to lose, winning.

Bills starting to click on offense.  D is playing well.  Just have to hope that they can score a bunch of points before they take out their starters.

    • I think we have gone back and forth on this already when PFF released their rankings, but again I have to say that is a crazy high prediction. I am not saying Wentz won't be a good QB either, but logistically, it is very dubious that he gets into that 8-12 range.   In 2018 (a long time ago), he finished #13 (EPA), #14 (DVOA), #12 (QBR) and #7 (Passer Rating), #8 (Yards/Game), #13 (TD rate) and #3 (Completion Rate). The completion rate was an outlier for his career so far, but you can make a case he was in that range overall...but that was the last time you could make that argument.   And since 2018, these QBs are now legitimately competing for those spots:   Dak Prescott Josh Allen Joe Burrow Justin Herbert Kyler Murray Lamar Jackson Ryan Tannehill Baker Mayfield Derek Carr Matthew Stafford (in LA)    These QBs are still stalwarts:   Russell Wilson Patrick Mahomes Aaron Rodgers Tom Brady.   These older QBs are very capable of putting up those types of stats:   Kirk Cousins Ryan Fitzpatrick (who was very good last year in MIA and is now in a great situation)   These QBs who are wildcards:   Deshaun Watson (if he plays) Jameis Winston (who has just as much chance as Wentz does when it comes to reviving his career in a new offense)   That's 18 QBs right there...more than half of the league. I know you don't think as highly of the QB situation in the NFL, but it's loaded right now compared to what it was just 2-3 years ago.   And Wentz has to be better than at least 1/3 of that list to just to get into the top 12. And since there are more than 18 NFL QBs, that also assumes no other QBs emerge, including the rookies.    If Wentz replicated his 2018 season in last year's NFL, he would have been #20 in EPA and #20 in QBR (right behind Rivers in Reich's offense). Even his MVP 2017 season would have only put him in that 5-7 range compared to last season.   For him to be in the top 8-12 in most stats/rankings in the 2021 NFL, he has to put up stats that are only a tier below 2017 (or a tier above his 2018...however you want to look at it). Basically, you are predicting him to be Andrew Luck then. I know Colts fans like to say he doesn't have to be Andrew Luck, but to achieve those stats, he sort of does.
    • Reminded me of a Chargers game.   But seriously, the front half of our schedule is pretty brutal, we don't get an easy game until week 6 against Houston.  Also the Jags will be improved this year with Lawrence.  The good news is we play Houston twice.  But looking at the schedule I don't see alot of easy wins there.   Seattle Rams Titans Dolphins - I expect to be better because of an improving Tua Ravens Houston.
    • I didn’t find it hard. I clicked on the link and there it was.
    • FWIW Colin Cowherd was trying to make a case for the Browns this year and posted a graphic of the five best OL’s in the last five years.  He had the Colts with the best OL last year and in 2017 it was the Eagles when they won the SB with Reich as a coach and Wentz leading the team until his injury.  I don’t know where their line was ranked last year but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was bad.  The team was bad.  Circumstances are going to be dramatically different this year for Wentz.  He should be pumped and excited to play for Reich again and this team.  It is a very strong team.  I have no doubt Reich will get Wentz back into his groove again.  I’m excited.  I think we are in store for a great year.  Can’t wait to get started.
