Ehh, they signed him to the practice squad, so it's not exactly a big deal. Now if they move him to the active roster, we've got something to sink our teeth into.

I saw this yesterday. Why spend the resources and a draft pick on a player at a position of need and not at least give him a full year on the practice squad?

only thing is mathis was high on him and i trusted his judgement lol. otherwise dont know much at all about him. weird they didnt give him a full year atleast

We did cut Dion Lewis, and he turned out pretty good on the Patriots. Surprised we didn't at least re-sign Bates back to the practice squad. We just did that with Tevaun Smith again.

I had kind of assumed they were putting him back on the practice squad. Almost a month went by, though. He's a free agent once he clears waivers, so he could have decline their practice squad offer, but that's unlikely. 

 

This staff definitely has a problem identifying and developing young pass rushers. The Hughes/Werner swap is the first clue. Moving Bates to hybrid ILB, and then moving on from him 6 weeks into the season, when you have no young pass rushers, that's interesting as well. Maybe something happened behind the scenes, maybe it's a D'Joun Smith situation, lack of professionalism. 

 

Meanwhile, everyone loves Curt Maggitt, who I don't think very much of. Bates isn't anything special, but I like him at OLB better than Maggitt. End of the day, it's no great loss, but I wish they had kept him around, also.

You'd have to wait until he becomes the next Jamie Collins first, I wouldn't get your hopes up lol.
