improved line play? numbers don't seem to support it

I think all of those are more indicators of the scheme and ability of our skill position players to run the scheme more than anything or more do to the type of receivers we have. I think a bigger indicator is the run game which has improved slightly but not significantly

I don't understand this response.....    CoffeeDrinker's post talks about improved line play....   and your response talks about skill position players and scheme and then says the type of receivers we have?

Huh?

You make no reference to the line play on any level and talk in circles.

You might want to take another swing at this,  because this answer doesn't correspond to CD's post at all.

It's as if you answering another poster....

12 passes in 3 games if 4 per game.......    not 3.

When you have a 4-year average of 2.62 and suddenly in one game you're at 2.98 and the running game has 70 yards at the half,   I'd say it's much more of a reflection of an improved running game than anything else.

To me,  it's pretty obvious.      You're free to disagree.

To add to this, it's not like we were playing the Falcons pass rush either. We gave Luck almost 3 seconds a play vs the top Defense in the league.

A little perspective: the world class Dallas Cowboys O line gave dak Prescott less time to throw vs the Bears last week. Our line did better vs the Broncos then the best line in football did against the Bears. I'd say thats a promising sign for our young line.

Let's hold off on saying anything too definitive - but it does look to me like the line is just a bit better than last year so far. Yes, not the big jump I was hoping for, but the young linemen will probably get better over the course of this year and the next couple.

What "numbers"?  You look at one number and claim it's plural.  I'd say the number(s) show the line has improved

Yards Per Play

2015 - 4.9

2016 - 5.6

Yards Per Rush

2015 - 3.6

2016 - 3.9

Yards Per Pass

2015 - 6.3

2016 - 7.4

Rushing TDs

2015 - 6

2016 - 3 (thru three games)

3rd Down Conversion

2015 - 40%

2016 - 43.5%

All of those "numbers" indicate improved line play.

What's this? Factual evidence comparing last yrs numbers to this yrs? Clearly, you don't know how personal rants work on a football forum. Just messing with you man. Nice work CD!

Actual visual evidence shows INDY is improving vs declining at an alarming rate as the narrative suggests. Like NCF said, the growth is slow, but it is there laid out in print. Well done.

Yes, yes, yes!      I've been saying that too.       We're seeing modest improvement,  and while that's good,  we'd all love for it to be much, much more right now.      But that rarely happens.

I think the best we can hope for is slow steady improvement week in and week out.....

And then hopefully we get to another level next year,  when I expect Clark to take over from Reitz at RT.

Good post.....

A good OL needs experience playing together in order to build chemistry.

I think all of the pieces for a very good OL (with solid depth) are already on the team. It's just a matter of time and hopefully some good coaching...

I hope that nobody was expecting  a bunch of rookie lineman to set the AFC on fire.

Especially in the run game.

Correct 3. Bad math. Our run game really hasn't improved much I don't think. We ran the ball an average of 3.6 ypc last year and now up to 3.9.  which is obviously an improvement but a minimal one. Frank Gores ypc has only went up from 3.7 last year to 3.9

However just 3 games in and plenty of games to go

You did notice that Gore had 70 yards by halftime Sunday?

That's no small feat.....

No doubt it was a great half, I wish we would have stuck with running the ball more in the 2nd half than what we did actually. Hopefully its a sign of things to come. I just have to see it to believe it. Its not the first time we have ran the ball well in a half and quit for one reason or another come the 2nd half

Can't say I'm surprised.especially with rietz play of late. But they have flashed some potential. If luck can survive this season,  the line could be average to above average this time next yr

Reitz being out may improve things. I like what I've seen from Haeg.

Agreed. Reitz has played poorly this year. Very disappointing as he was decent last year. Through 3 games, hes having a hard time blocking anybody.

Other than Reitz, the line has been better. They should be a damn good unit in the coming years. Will be fun watching these young guns develop.

I for one do thing the line has played better so don't think this is me bashing the line. Far from it. Just passing along some information. I just read something from my friend that cites luck has been hit 42 times out of 98 drop backs. thoughts?

As a Colts Homer Lovin the Blue  & Bricklayer Caveman I'm not exactly a great analyst for me did a lineman let my QB get smacked did they give him a good pocket ? & Time to get rid of the ball ? the game moves fast & my mind not so much its easy to over look things .

You get so used to complaining about the O-line sometimes you miss when there actually doing okay its a team sport , 12 sometimes just holds onto the ball to long for various reasons ,

Most here are smarter than me when it comes to football I never played any other than jail house rules tackle in the streets in L.a were the curbs were the out of bounds as a kid .

I was just reading this & going over the numbers it made me think 3 games into the season while I & many here are still complaining about the line they may be better than we fans give them credit for so I'd love to hear what others think about this ...

I enjoy learning more about my team I only have Eyes for the Blue so if any would give me there opinions it would be greatly appreciated .

Thank You yours truly Capt Caveman :hat:

    • Since I was banned from the forum during the height of the best time to talk strategy and roster building… for posting laughing gifs (you know, since they were removed as an emoji)… I am going to remove myself from the forum indefinitely. I will admit that I have been condescending towards frequent negativity on here, and it is what it is. It is a sad irony when one can get banned from a forum for pettiness, while the GM of the forum’s organization can drop expletive after expletive with the national media, and get praised by many for it. (Not dogging on his tirade, just the irony behind it regarding this forum’s policing of words and comments.)    I look forward to the remainder of the offseason and rolling into the season which should be exciting. Happy with the picks- Latu and Mitchell should work well to address the explosive need on offense and limiting explosiveness on defense. Two true playmakers at crucial premium positions on this roster. Feels like we are going to look back and be lucky to have them fall to us. Stacking some quality o-lineman and filling the roster out with some speed and upside throughout the depth chart will be fun to watch come together and develop.    Have enjoyed discussion with many of you. Wish you all the best. Go Blue.

    • Diggs is on a one year deal....the pundits say the Texans were brilliant to structure the deal as a one year deal but Diggs will see $ 's down the drain if he isn't targeted exclusively ....I predict Diggs will have Stroud in tears by mid season if he doesn't get the ball thrown to him every time.
