I'm a big fan of Cam Johnson. I like him in the draft last year, thought he would be a middle round guy, but he fell a bit.

He posseses good pass rushing skills, and if he plays his cards right and reaches some of his potential, he could be a nice rotational player in Indy.

Especially considering it's probably a conditional 7th round pick, this is a nice trade for the Colts. They cut him or let go of him, no harm, no foul. If they keep it, all they would lose is a 7th round pick, which isn't bad especially if he has an impact.

Grigs never stops!

Phil B on twitter said he's a classic 3/4 MLB in build but has played rush linebacker as well so he gives the Colts flexibility. Didn't know who was released and pretty much ran down all the names tossed out here as options but included Josh Gordy as an option as well. He did say Howell rather than Lefeged or Brown so take that for what it's worth.

He's a converted 4-3 DE... Would find it hard to believe he can provide much value (or more value than the current guys) at ILB.

He's a rush OLB, imo. I mean, that's what he played in SF.

i think Phil B. is still learning about him he just he fits the mold in terms of body type for a 3/4 MLB. He didn't say he was going to be one here. He also pointed out he was a rush linebacker for the 49ers. He doesn't know who has been cut yet either. If he's going to be a rush linebacker and not a major special teams guy the Rayford is probably out. Four rush linebackers is a lot.

At least our gm doesn't sit on his hands and wait for the exact guy to come along via cuts or free agency(unlike polian). He is constantly trying to dig up hidden talent that can be maximized with good coaching and better use of the players skillset that are brought to the table. I am glad we finally have a gm that is willing to pull the trigger and get people to rotate in and out of the roster to find the best value for every position. Not all of them will make the roster but it's still a very exciting process, unlike the boredom days of polian...

Bremer is reporting that Harvey and Conner are not on the field today. Could be injuries, could be something else?

well Pagano said last week Conner would miss a few weeks after the Bengals game so him not being out there isn't major news. Harvey was uninjured at least as far as we knew so there could be something to that.

Now this makes things become clearer, albeit speculative clear. Something is up. We might have a deal in place for Conner. Or Harvey could have been cut.

Thank you Cardinal.

Seems like he could be another diamond in the rough.

you know whats concerning me why are we not getting any kind of tackle depth we have cherilus and castonzo and got rid of ijalana so who backs them up? reitz and linkenbach? both are better suited at guard and im not sure about this if one tackle gets injured our line will crumble and loser mcglynn wont exactly help i like the trade but please try to improve a position of weakness like T and G

I think it will be Delano Howell or Caesar Rayford. 49er fans believe Cam is flashy and gets to the quarterback often, but is horrible against the run and gets pushed off the line on running plays.

IMHO, pass rushers are the most important positions on the team after QB.  You can't have too many.  I'd keep Rayford.

I like this move as well.  This guy (Johnson) is talented.  Having him on one side, and Rayford on the other side gives us two very solid backup options to Mathis, Werner, and Walden.  I like this move a lot!

We have a pretty solid football team.

Niners fans are freaking out about losing him on their board.

You'd think they just lost Drake Nevis or something.

Good one. lol

But to be fair, the Niners have an abundance of talent across the board, whereas we just cut arguably our best interior pass rusher, without compensation, when pressure up the middle already appeared to be a weak point on this defense

    • I guess the whole question is the merits of the report. You report on his diabetes with tons of guesses and speculations and WITHOUT taking the side of the person who's been affected here and who's living and dealing with that condition. You report on the player being uncoachable WITHOUT taking the opinion of his coaches about being coachable or not(and BTW from what I've heard both from Colts and Texas coaches, this is resoundingly NOT TRUE). You report about him being immature and honestly, everything I've seen on the surface suggests the opposite. You report about his combine performance by giving it a pretty harsh reading(the video is in this thread and the account of what happened by McGinn is in this thread... People can actually go and look at what happened and make their own mind about whether the characterization of that workout was fair or not. I will just say you can represent the player stumbling in a drill and going again in various different ways and McGinn chose a specific way to represent it. It was the most negative way you could choose).    You know I had my own reservations about that outburst by Ballard at the presser, but the more I'm learning about Mitchell the more I actually believe in what Ballard was saying and the less merit those reports have in my mind. Maybe I have my own unconscious biases too, now that I have vested interest in Mitchell actually being good for us. I don't know     I guess ultimately none of it matters. AD's success or failure won't depend on some pre-draft reports... it will depend on how he handles himself from now on, how hard he works, his drive to be great and our staff's ability to get the best of him.
    • Hmmm.   ”Healthy excuses will be hard to come by.”    Really?   Richardson, who had less than a thousand snaps in college, then had roughly 200 snaps his rookie year.  There’s one.   And Houston has Stroud who had a great rookie year.  Aren’t most media predicting Houston and JVille ahead of Indy this year?  That’s two without any trouble.     I just think insisting on a division title because a fan thinks it’s time doesn’t stand up to much scrutiny.   Sorry, just my two cents…. And often not worth that much.
    • For me absolutely it does. If Richardson stays healthy excuses will be hard to come up with. As positive as I am with Ballard at some point we have to start winning. He bet on himself by bringing in his own home grown talent this year, what he does at safety in the coming month and a half has me worried as well. We were so close to winning the division last year with a back up QB that my expectation is winning the AFC south this year.    If they make it into the wild card game and lose then the seat is just as hot for me. If they advance further and make a Cinderella run then I’m fully back on board.
    • 3 straight losses for the Reds. They have their moments where they play well. But it’s time to be real. They aren’t a playoff team and will never be as long as the Castillinis own them and David Bell is manager.    De La Cruz is fun, but his career will be wasted on this team.
    • Am I reading this correct?   You think Ballard’s seat gets hot if the Colts don't win the AFC South?  Really?   So if the Colts don’t win the south but make the playoffs Ballard’s seat still gets hot?    Just making sure I understand your viewpoint.
