What about this free agent pick up part 2?

Ginn wants more opportunity as a WR.    His money is limited as just a return specialist.

I wouldn't be surprised if Grigson is interested....   the question is....   how interested?   And how much money will we offer and how much of an opportunity at WR?

This is a big contract opportunity for Ginn,  and he'll try to maximize it....

I remember when Cam Cameron came out and announced him as the Dolphin's first round pick instead of Brady Quinn and people booed Cam.

Ginn wasn't that good with the Dolphins and was a rotational WR and above average return man with the 49ers.

Personally I wouldn't even touch the guy, we have a guy just like him in TY Hilton who is younger and has a lot more upside.

I am curious to what people think about Cliff Avril. Is he a smaller Freeney or was he a misfit the other way, playing an undersized DE in a 4-3 while his true position may be 3-4 OLB much like Mathis? Thoughts???

How much of his production a part of being with Suh? He turned down $30m for three years.

TBH I really don't know much about him.

I don't see the point in paying big money to a guy just to switch his position. Reminder......we just did that last yr. and it was a disaster. No way on Avril.

Lets not forget that Mathis did switch from a 4-3 DE as well and did fine. Hence the question if we kick the tires for a 1 yr. deal with Avril whose body type is in between Mathis and Freeney, especially if no one else signs him (which means the Lions could not get a deal with him done).

Somebody will pay him and it won't be us IMO. Like Smonroe said, he turned down 3 yrs. 30 mil. from Detroit. Im not paying 10 mil for another experiment. No way, no how.

Something tells me he will come back to earth once free agency is close to ending. :)

Avril is in his prime athletic years and needs to cash in.....zero chance he takes a one year deal.

He is wanting top 5 DE pay... NO!!!

he isn't a top 5 .

I thought we would look at him because of Purdue and Grigs.. but not now with what he wants and how he rated last year.

in fact according to PFF he rated 42nd out of 48, Freeney was 25th.

Cliff Avril ED 5 DET UFA -11.6 708

Spencer was # 1

Barwin 45

Shaun Phillips 46

Kuger was 8th

Victor Butler 9th ** The Peytonator has been speaking about us picking him up... I like the FA [icks he has been suggesting for us...

Exactly why I dont buy into these numerical ratings some of these sites put on players based on there perceived play of a player, How can a guy that had 35 tackles through 16 games and 9.5 sacks be 17 spots below a guy that 12 tackles and 5 sacks through 14 games? Same with Phillips being 46th yet he had better numbers then Avril, 50 tackles and 9.5 sacks

He may not get the deal he wants,  but he'll get much, much more than a 1-year deal.

We're running a 3-4.    I don't think he wants any part of that.    I'd be happy if I'm wrong on this and he wants to come home to Indiana....    but I just don't see that happening....

He's in demand as a 4-3 RDE....   he'll get a very, very nice contract.

    • That’s my hope at least. We feel, more than any year in recent memory, primed to possibly go into next year’s off-season with no major holes (assuming we re-sign our FAs or our depth looks ready to step up). That lets us take BPA or try again to move up for an elite prospect. But there are a lot of IFs here (IF our DBs have an improved year. IF we don’t have any major fall offs in performance. IF we don’t have any late season major injuries, IF our rookies this coming year show us their trajectory is still high.   I would classify myself as cautiously amped moving forward haha.
    • This just seems like the second guessing fans love to do with anything the Colts do. Had they done the reverse of what they did there would be a thread about that.  Nothing wrong with it fans are free to do that here.   i will say a fifth year option and a punters contract aren’t going to make or break Ballard no matter how they workout.
    • Reds are now into a 6 game losing streak... Outscored 34-10 during this timespan. As of right now, they are officially the worst performing team in baseball.    Something has to give... Can't even have a fire sale right now because none of the players are good enough to trade off...
    • What sucks about losing Game 1 is, it makes Game 2 a must win. We brought great energy in Game 1, our bench outscored their bench 46-3 but Brunson had a monster game to make up for most of that. Not sure all of our players can bring that kind of energy again, having said that Haliburton can't play any worse unless his back is just really bothering him badly.    Can't fall down 0-2 - that is a steep hill to climb. 1-1 gives us a legit chance of winning this series. We got Game 2 at Milwaukee to tie it 1-1 and won in 6. We will see how it goes down. I can almost promise everyone this, the REFS won't be near as bad, they are on watch now.
    • Fun time of the offseason. Studying the schedule is always fun and trying to give early predictions what might be a win or a loss. I rank this the 5th best football day of the year only behind: 1. SB Sunday   2. NFC/AFC Title Game Sunday    3. Opening Day = Opening Sunday because that is when most of the games are played to open the season.   4. First day of the Draft   5. Schedule day!
