over the weekend

Colts medical team decided to initiate diagnostic tests and to consult with a number of specialists around the country who have been involved in Peyton’s case from the outset. That process continues.

As a result of the most recent development the doctors have decided that Peyton will not practice.

His participation therefore, in Sunday’s game versus Houston will likely be doubtful.

We will update his playing status as required by NFL policy as the week goes on.

At the conclusion of the diagnostic process, if there are any new developments in the prognosis which we outlined for Peyton at the start of training camp we will report them.

As of now Peyton continues to deal with a complicated neurological recovery, the end date of which is unpredictable.

When and if there are concrete medical facts to report we will do so.

Colts insider take on responce

take on the statement: We shouldn’t speculate. As it stands right now, Peyton isn’t ready to play football, and the Colts’ training staff has no idea why he isn’t. How long will it be until Manning is ready to play? Nobody knows at this point. I’m guessing he suffered some sort of setback during practice this week, as he tried to compensate for a lack of strength in his throwing arm. The statement says that Manning is “doubtful” to play on Sunday against the Texans, but it seems there’s virtually no chance that he plays, potentially for the first month of the regular season.

Prepare for life without Peyton Manning.

I think that we will not see any snap of Peyton Manning this season.

It is really sounding like this will be the case. They will dangle the spector of 18's return all year like a carrot to fans, but the reality is they know he probably will not take a snap this year. Nor should he if his career could be placed in jeopardy. This will most likely be a rough season now but "next man up"! Worse case scenario is we get a nice draft pick out of all this for next year.

Of all seasons. What in the world...I blame the lockout. Didn't he say he wouldn't have got that surgery if the lockout didn't happen?

dont know that but did say he was mad that had no access to to trusted Colt rehab specialists so though had experts , he was extra cautious in his rehab , this extra caution could have, not saying did, but could have slowed healing process if too cautious and not enough rehab being pushed force ally enough to adhere to strictly as he wasn't comfortable with those specialists

Hold on ...everybody.....Officially....he's just out this week....and we can win in week 2 without him.

Look at our 1st 2 games.......We'd likely have been 1-1 anyway....

No one said he's worse...he's just not improving quickly enough and his arm strength isnt there..

maybe some back soreness...which was to be expected... right?

We can go 1-1 without him and still make the post-season... Its a long season and that's why we got Collins...

Its so sad that his streak is going to end bc lack of ability to get with the Colts medical staff. He probably would have end up beating Favre who i cant stand with his retire no retire antics. Peyton Manning will end up playing a bunch of games once he is healed. Hopefully they put on an asterisk on his name when it comes to games played so they know part of reason his record fell because of lockout. Well Peyton get well soon cause were going to need you to make it to the Superbowl. Hopefully Curtis or Kerry can help us beat the Texans. If we pull of the upset we can set ourselves very well for Peyton return whenever that is.

"Over the weekend Peyton experienced soreness in his back. It was originally thought to be a normal reaction to his rehabilitation regimen. When the soreness persisted, the Colts medical team decided to initiate diagnostic tests and to consult with a number of specialists around the country who have been involved in Peyton’s case from the outset. That process continues. As a result of the most recent development the doctors have decided that Peyton will not practice."

a little worse than just "some" back soreness. sounds like its in relation to the neck, which is why he has stopped practice completely.

Are you a doctor now?I doubt stress is the reason he is not healing.

You do know stress causes problems during an injury right? my mate broke his leg during during a training exercise and it still hasnt healed yet doctor called it stress about being back squadded... so yea stress does cause problems when it comes to healing... I never said that was peytons problems just saying that could be one of them, calm down.

I have discovered through the kind of exhaustive research that goes into so many posts on this board that, to help assure the future of the Colts, Peyton has voluntarily decided to go on injured reserve to make sure that the Colts get the number 1 pick in next year's draft so that they can draft Luck and Peyton will have a qualified student to be his apprentice for 3-4 years.

If you haven't figured it out yet, this is worth as much as any other speculation at this point. Let's do what the Colts said, quit speculating!

We play who we have to play with whoever is healthy on game day.

Dont nobody care about peytons streak man, thats not gonna get you anything. They should have left peyton on the PUP list and let the guy rest i bet the guy is stressed out thats why he's not healing so quickly.

that would make sense with all the rehab work and the twins most likely keeping him busy hes gotta be stressed out.

Whoa forgot that he even had kids lol oh yea thats definitely causing problems.. If the colts were completely honest about peytons status hopefully he can be back for week 3.

So my internet has been out since late last night did I miss anything important lol.

In all seriousness this is why we bruoght Kerry Collins in. He's taken far worse teams to the playoffs, heck he took a Giants team with less talent IMO to a Super Bowl. I am not saying we'll be a Super Bowl team without Manning but I do think we can win some games. It still sounds like it's up in the air how much time he misses but I do think Manning will be back and hey for all those who spent years saying we needed a good back up for a situation just like this here is your chance to be proven right. Frankly I think we went from maybe the worst back up QB situation in the NFL to maybe the best with Collins. The rest of the team has to step up too but if we play well Collins is going to give us a fighting chance in games. Frankly if Garcon can hold on to the ball Kerry Collins might be the best thing to happen to him.

It stinks Manning is going to miss time but he isn't our only good player, time for other pro-bowlers and former pro-bowlers, Clark, Wayne, Freeney, Mathis, Addai, and Bethea to step up and prove they can win without Manning. If I was those guys I would have a big chip on my shoulder with the media saying we can't do anything without Manning.
