Time to trade

nobody gets traded at the trade deadline in the NFL. its not like the NBA and MLB

While I don't believe this is at all true (Marshawn Lynch is an example), I don't see Freeney being a possibility.

As to Freeney, the same argument applies... NO ONE wants to pick up a 14.035 million dollar salary and have to give up anything to acquire it. The most we can get is a 7th due to the contract alone. If his salary was a more modest 4-5 million, we'd have something worth discussing. As it is, if the coaches are unhappy with him, they're stuck paying for him until the end of the season, even if they cut him.

I am surprised that we aren't hearing anything about trade talks and freeney. He just doesn't seem comfortable at LB. I would much rather have Huges on the field. I would take a 4th or 5th rounder

He's playing through injury. That and his salary don't exactly make him trade bait.

A team would have to have a little under 7.5 million of cap space to take on the rest of his contract without agreeing to some form of an extension prior to the deal being made, so not many teams have that space to start with.

At the start of the season it was reported only 12 teams had such space, and those #'s are likely lower based on teams having to acquire new players once injuries pop up.

Apart from his awful game against the Titans, Jerry Hughes has been playing at a high level this entire season.

Absolute nonsense. Freeman is what you call 'playing at a high level'......Hughes continues to be average at best, and a non factor on the majority of plays, so I have to disagree sir. Btw, just what is your user name supposed to be??

You are FUNNY! All the teams with $7Million in cap space are lining up to get this ALL-PRO you think.

Thanks for the laugh.

They'll keep him through this year and negotiate his next contract as an OLB, giving the front office leverage based on this year's performance as an OLB. If he flys, No one can blame the Colts either way.

Now, if they franchise tag him, I would be surprised and deeply, DEEPLY disappointed

Still with you bbs what a waste of money and time on Freeney. And yet people still defend him.Clay had more sacks in 3 games then Freeney will see all year.Waste of time to even laugh at people here about Freeney, because they still defend him.

On top of all the good reasons already stated for why we don't trade Freeney, or rather why other teams may not be pursuing him, there is this one....

We're sitting at a surprising 4-3 with a shot at 5-3.... we're talking about a run at the playoffs.

Trading Freeney may help long term, but it likely doesn't help short term. And that's where the focus is now. This year.

Also....

You're assuming someone with that cap space is willing to give up a 4 or a 5 for a half season of an expensive player who may not be 100% healthy....

Right deal. But the timing is all wrong.

I clicked on this scrolled down before reading a single post and I'd bet my 65 mustang this thread is about Freeney.

EDIT: I'm correct. Did we not go through this enough through the offseason n training camp/pre-season? The cons do not outweigh the pros. Nobody is gonig to want that gargantuan contract for a speed rusher that isn't effective so far this season.

If this guy wasn't so risky, it makes you almost wish we would have made that trade.

not really simply because he is a free agent at the end of the year. if we would go after him it wouldve been in the offseason where all our money is as opposed to giving up something/players in a trade

The Patriots aren't thinking playoffs.... they're thinking Super Bowl. They're years and years ahead of us. They can afford to gamble with a 4thR pick on a guy who may not stay with them next season.

We can't. We're not there yet. And we might not be there for a few more years.

Different teams, different perspectives, different priorities......

In a few years, maybe we'll be there.... but not now....
