Recommended Posts

First off, thank you to everyone who participated and to everyone who helped keep the show running and working. GREAT team effort.  We finished in about the same time as last year, but last year we did just 4 rounds and didn't take weekends off so I think we found the formula for next year. I think Broncos fans would be very happy with their teams draft as well. Two trade ups, one to get a top 3 player in this class at 7, and a great BPA strategy to make the team better overall.

Round 1.) Isaiah Simmons, LB

Round 3a.) Cameron Dantzler, CB

Round 3b.) Shane Lemeiux, OG

Round 3c.) Josh Uche, OLB

Round 4.) Anthony Gordon, QB

Round 5.) James Proche, WR

Round 6.) Benito Jones, DT

Round 7.) Alohi Gilman, S

Let me know what you think!

Here's what you've all been waiting for! A Colts draft recap!!

The Picks:

RD 2, Pick 40: Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU

RD 2, Pick 44: Michael Pittman Jr, WR, USC

RD 3, Pick 75: KJ Hamler, WR, Penn State

RD 4, Pick 111: Ben Bartch, OT, St Johns

RD 4, Pick 136: Antonio Gibson, RB, Memphis

RD 5, Pick 160: Colby Parkinson, TE, Stanford

RD 6, Pick 197: Davion Taylor, LB, Colorado

RD 6, Pick 209: Derrek Tuszka, DE, NDSU

The Breakdown:

I feel as though a lot of needs were filled in this draft. To start off, we grabbed another young corner to pair with Ya-Sin for the future, and Gladney has all the tools and talent to be a great #1 CB on our team! After that, I hit on back-to-back WRs. I am enamored by Pittman at the moment, and I think he fits our offense perfectly, with the potential to turn into a number 1 option within a few seasons. Hamler is the perfect TY replacement, as he is pretty much a clone of Hilton, and can take over the slot role once he moves on or retires.

Moving into Day 3, Ben Bartch is a solid start. He is a very talented developmental LT, and will be able to take over once Castonzo retires within the next 2 seasons. Gibson is one of my favorite prospects, and has the potential to take the lead back role if Mack moves on next season, with 3-down back upside. Parkinson is a great receiving TE, and will come in to help fill the void left by Ebron. Davion Taylor can come in and help take over for Anthony Walker if the Colts decide not to bring him back after next season, and will be a great depth piece if they do. Finally, Tuszka is a very underrated prospect, and will be good depth at worst and a decent starter at best.

Closing:

So what do you think, Colts Nation?? Did you enjoy the Colts draft class, or would you change a few things? Who do you like? Who don't you like? Thanks for allowing me this opportunity to lead this amazing team through our mock, and I hope you all enjoyed!

Also, thank you one more time to our amazing commissioner group! Couldn't have done this without you all!

Virtual high fives are flying in DAL's virtual war room. Below is their recap:

Draft Focus

1) Secondary - DAL had the #19 ranked pass defense (DVOA) last season...and was tied for LAST in INTs. And they just lost their CB1 Byron Jones to FA...as well as starting SS Jeff Heath. New DC Mike Nolan prioritizes takeaways on defense...so adding young top tier talent to the secondary was paramount.

2) DL - DAL had the #15 ranked run defense (DVOA) last season...and were #19 in sacks. They also lost DT Maliek Collins and DE Robert Quinn (and his 11.5 sacks) to FA. DAL did sign McCoy and Poe to help address the DL...but with a veteran starting DL (all age 28 and up)...DAL needed young DL talent for rotational depth this year and to develop long term. Nolan has said he will scheme around his best players...not the other way around...so upside will be the focal point (over scheme fit).

3) C - Unfortunately, longtime starting C Travis Frederick was forced to retire back in March due to Guillain-Barré syndrome. DAL re-signed Joe Looney, who replaced Frederick as starting C for the 2018 season...but DAL will be looking to add a talented long-term starter at the position. Reportedly, DAL loves Cesar Ruiz.

4) TE - HOFer Jason Witten retired again back in March as well. Just kidding...he's going to be playing in 2020...except now he will be in LV. Witten is/was far past his prime...coming off his worst season (since his rookie year)...but he was a big part of the offense...playing 75% of the offensive snaps...and managing to vulture a few short TDs from Zeke. DAL re-signed Blake Jarwin...who has shown flashes...to a long-term deal to effectively be the TE1...and vet Blake Bell. But with a TE group (that also includes Dalton Schultz) that features no players with more than 700 career receiving yards, DAL will be looking to add TE talent that can impact the passing game.

5) WR - With DAL re-signing Amari Cooper to a massive contract extension...and Michael Gallup breaking out in his sophomore season...WR1 and WR2 are locked down for the foreseeable future. However, after a productive rebound year for Randall Cobb, he moved across state to HOU. In new HC Mike McCarthy's last season in GB, the offense ran 1-1 3-WR sets a whopping 72% of the time. So while WR is not a top need...with a deep draft class...DAL will be looking to add WR talent that can immediately compete for WR3 snaps...in a hodgepodge group that includes Cedrick Wilson, Devin Smith, Ventrell Bryant and Noah Brown.

Draft Execution

Player Selections

#17 - Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama

#67 - Kyle Dugger, S, Lenoir-Rhyne

#82 - Jabari Zuniga, DE, Florida

#85 - Hunter Bryant, TE, Washington

#123 - Rashad Lawrence, NT, LSU

#164 - Khalil Davis, DT, Nebraska

#171 - Quez Watkins, WR, Southern Mississippi

#231 - Levonta Taylor, DB, Florida State

Trade: Dallas trades #51 (390 points) to Detroit for #67 and 85 (420 points).

1) Secondary - DAL doesn't like Florida CBs (understandably so)...so CB Trevon Diggs was actually their CB2 in the draft...and they had no problem taking him at #17 to replace Byron Jones. And they were delighted to find S Kyle Dugger still available after the trade back as well. With Diggs and Dugger, DAL not only gets a cool name combo, but they also get an extremely talented duo that combined for 6 INTs last season and will greatly upgrade the secondary.

DAL also loves Taylor's upside a nickel CB who could push for snaps right away and potentially lock down the position long-term.

2) DL - This time, DAL was able to look past the fact that a guy played at Florida...and were ecstatic to draft Jabari Zuniga...because they love his future upside and think he can add immediate 3rd down pass rushing to offset some of the loss from Robert Quinn leaving (interestingly...Quinn is Zuniga's NFL.com pro comp). DAL also loves the upside of 1T Rashad Lawrence (who returned to school for his senior season to win a national title)...and athletic 3T Khalil Davis. Both will immediately slot into the DL rotation with Lawrence backing up Poe and Davis backing up McCoy. DAL was incredibly pleased to get both of these talented DL players on Day 4.

3) C - As DAL expected, Cesar Ruiz did not make it to their original 2nd round pick. And while DAL likes Lloyd Cushenberry, they had a 3rd round grade on him and therefore couldn't pass up the trade back offer from DET. After Cushenberry, DAL was not enamored with the C group...and sought to prioritize other positions. DAL is confident that Looney can handle the starting duties if necessary...and will look to further address the C position with UDFA and team cutdowns...with an eye toward next year.

4) TE - DAL was shocked to see their TE2 still available at #82...despite the earlier run on TEs. DAL loves Bryant's athleticism and ball skills...and will look for him to "slot" into the TE rotation immediately as a move TE...to help offset the loss of Witten...and potentially add a big versatile slot weapon for McCarthy's offense.

5) WR - DAL loved Brandon Aiyuk and Laviska Shenault as ideal fits to replace Cobb. But not all gambles pay off...and both went off the board shortly after DAL traded back to #67. At that point, DAL was eyeing late round WR depth with some hope that Van Jefferson might be there in the 4th round. Ultimately, DAL was able to grab WR Quez Watkins with one of their last two picks. DAL really likes Watkins' speed and ability after the catch...especially for underneath routes...and will look to develop his route running as a slot WR for McCarthy's offense.

Draft Grade: B+ with good chance to be an A-.

  7. OLB       Jordan Mack

Given that the Chargers had good skill position players already in place and Hunter Henry tagged, going trenches on OL and front 7 on D was the best approach after getting Tua. Good job!!! Once Tua recovers, they should be very competitive with a good DL and an outstanding secondary that also added Chris Harris.

Good job!! The key to the Cowboys' success will still be hitting their passing game ceiling consistently with Dak and McCarthy working together, plus their D vs RBs. They have given up way too much production vs RBs vs teams that have good OLs lately, and unless that changes, their clock control offense cannot control the game, and their strengths with speedy LBs and secondary are diminished, IMO.

Loved your draft!! The biggest assumption in this draft is that our DL picks from years past break through along with the Buckner and Day additions. Given that, you did a fantastic job that will definitely improve our team.

I think Broncos fans would be very happy with their teams draft as well. Two trade ups, one to get a top 3 player in this class at 7, and a great BPA strategy to make the team better overall.

Round 1.) Isaiah Simmons, LB

Round 3a.) Cameron Dantzler, CB

Round 3b.) Shane Lemeiux, OG

Round 3c.) Josh Uche, OLB

Round 4.) Anthony Gordon, QB

Round 5.) James Proche, WR

Round 6.) Benito Jones, DT

Round 7.) Alohi Gilman, S

Let me know what you think!

I liked the picks that give Vic Fangio plenty to choose from but I still feel that losing Chris Harris is not easily replaced and there was not enough added at the WR position, while going against the likes of Patrick Mahomes in the division. Mahomes will find a way to put up 23-27 points somehow against even the best of Ds, but I am not sure Drew Lock can do so without offensive assistance.

The running game with Lindsay and Gordon will have to come through to keep the Broncos competitive in games. I do expect Sutton and Fant to get better this year but I am not sure that would be enough. We will see how the running game X factor wins games for them this year to take the load off the passing offense.

My draft for your beloved division rival Titans :)

Round 1, Pick No.29 - Bryce Hall, CB, Virginia - Adoree Jackson, Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan are starters and with Logan Ryan still not signed, Titans go with a CB that has an upside for starting ability, but excels in zone coverage, which they play more than anything else. Looking back, knowing what I know now, might have gone with some better CBs on the board then.

Round 2, Pick No.61 - Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona State - With Derrick Henry and A J Brown being the pillars of their offense, they couldn't pass up good value to build a young core of offensive pass catchers with Aiyuk added along with A J Brown.

Round 3, Pick No.93 - Julian Okwara, EDGE, Notre Dame - Harold Landry drafted, and recently Vic Beasley signed, they bolster their pass rush with another good young pass rusher in Julian Okwara, for their rotation that will get better, and one that came up short in the AFCCG vs SB champs Chiefs.

Round 5, Pick No.174 - Saahdiq Charles, OT, LSU - This felt like deja vu with La'el Collins all over, an LSU OT with off the field issues but a potential swing tackle with starter potential for a ceiling.

Round 7, Pick No.224 - Chapelle Russell, OLB, Temple - Situational LB with solid athleticism

Round 7, Pick No.243 - Jessie Lemonier, OLB/DE, Liberty - Small school pass rusher that was very productive

Round 7, Pick No.228 - Salvon Ahmed, RB, Washington

First of all I take my hat off for the fantastic work @csmopar, @chad72 and @NFLfandone with this draft. :hat:

Drafting for the Bengals wasn't too hard as they were lacking talented players all over their roster. I could have traded the #1 pick I suppose but I was thinking of their fanbase. They have been through some pretty rough times over there in Cincy.

Rd1- Joe Burrow QB 6'3" 221 lbs.

Rd2- Austin Jackson OT 6'5" 322 lbs.

Rd3- Tyler Johnson WR 6'1" 206 lbs.

Rd4- James Lynch DT 6'4" 289 lbs.

Rd5- Trevis Gipson DE 6'4" 268 lbs.

Rd6- Cheyenne O'Grady TE 6'4" 253 lbs.

Rd7- Joe Reed WR/KR 6.0" 224 lbs.

I think if the Bengals draft went something like this they would be much improved in a couple of years.

Somehow, it will shock everyone in 2020 that the Patriots are in rebuild mode.  Gone are Tom Brady, Dante Scarnecchia, and three of their five best LBs (in a 3-4, that’s a serious kick in the nards).  They’ll also be squeezing the last bit of life out of their last surviving elite receiving option (Edelman), while breaking in a young and improbable successor QB (Stidham).  However, the team has 13 selections in a very good, deep draft.  So, I fully expect a youthquake in NE, along with all the disappointments and losses that go along with such a full rebuild.  Yes, this is gonna be fun for Colt fans to watch.

1) Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin.

3) Matt Hennessy, OL, Temple.

3) Van Jefferson, WR, Fla.

3) Harrison Bryant, TE, Fla. Atl.

4) Michael Ojemudia, DB, Iowa

5) Jonathan Garvin, LB, Miami

6) Case Cookus, QB, Northern Arizona

6) Charlie Heck, OT, N. Car.

6) Austin Edwards, DL, Ferris St.

6) Dominik Eberle, K, Utah St.

7) Gage Cervenka, OL, Clemson

7) L'Jarius Sneed, DB, Louisiana Tech

7) Mike Danna, LB, Michigan

Sadly, I think this is a pretty good replenishment of talent for NE.  Severely backloaded, plenty of these guys are developmental guys with potential.  Notable are the makeover given to the OL depth (Hennessy, Heck, and Cervenka), the replenishment of the LB corps (Baun, Garvin, and Danna), and the early addition of quality, chain-movin' receivers (Jefferson and Bryant).

If that is how the draft actually falls I would be very happy. I might even go with my family to Paul Brown stadium again next year... the last home game I went to for them was the infamous Steelers playoff game...

You selected two guys I had hoped to draft. I also wanted the CB from Tulsa that you drafted for the Ravens. You must have watched a lot of the Senior Bowl.

A little bit here and there haha  but I really decided to pick them because of just how much Ballard loves the event. Last year alone he drafted 6 players who were in the event, and 3 of our picks from 2018 also participated. You can find some really good talent there, and that’s exactly what I think those two are!
