I was under the impression that the unofficial time wasnt as relevant, as there is a margin of error with the clocking, hence the need for the adjustment to the official time. Otherwise wouldnt the scouts personally clocked times be the most relevant?

Not necessarily.  Scouts clocked times are relevant.  A guy that improves his time at a pro day, for instance, comes into play.  That's even if he ran in the combine.

Seems like both my favourites(Hunt and Jamaal Williams) didn't do too good at the 40.

Surprising for Hunt, I thought he looked faster on tape.  I thought he would test under 4.6.  That said, I kind of expected Jamaal to run a slower time.  4.6 isn't horrible, though.  But really the problem for Jamaal is his lateral mobility and acceleration as far as running goes.

He appeared 8 lbs heavier than he was at the Senior Bowl. Maybe the weight is impacting him?

Maybe a little bit, but the tape I watched on him was from this year (not sure of his weight then).  I'm not sure it has a substantial impact, but I'm no expert.

Why does the vertical mean anything at the RB position seems pointless. I'd much rather you be able to run and I'd want you to be strong and fast Fournette is gonna be fine.

It means a lot more than you think.  It's an indication of explosiveness.  For running backs, it indicates things like burst, ability to drive a pile, and how well they can deliver a blow, running the ball or in pass protection.

Yeah none of those things will be a problem for Fournette lol that's for sure

No, I don't think he will have a problem with it either.  I'm not saying its the sole indicator, just AN indicator.  There's plenty more that goes into a players complete profile.

I've been out 30 minutes, did I miss anything?  Surprises in drills?

McCaffrey destroyed the on-field drills. Was catching badly thrown balls like it's nothing, ball sticking to his hands. Sharp and smooth.

I could live with McCaffrey as a 3rd down back and slot guy in different formations. I'd also line him up in the backfield on zone runs with 3 or 4 guys split wide.

I'm just afraid our staff would try to run him between the tackles with loaded boxes and that would be a complete waste of talent.

Joe Williams appears to be pretty fast

He's definitely fast, but I have too many questions about him off the field. Previously arrested and charged with credit card fraud, then suddenly retired and only came back after multiple RB's went down (did well on the field when he came back though). Just makes me questions his decision-making off the field and his heart/dedication to the game.

IMHO there aren't as many up the gut RB in this draft that get me excited. Fournette Foreman and Jamaal Williams are ones that pop to my head. I think Mcaffrey Kamara and cook will all succeed in a zone run and not in short yardage and goal line runs. We were wanting to switch to a zone run scheme but I don't think frank would find success there but maybe one of these guys?

Why.

Why does everybody think this dude can't go between the tackles.

Has he not proven himself.

His weakness is not that he can get you a 4 yard average between the tackles, he's just not a bruiser.

I agree running this guys at his size 15-20 times between the tackles would bring some physical abuse to his body rather than the opposite from a giy like Bradshaw, but dammit he can do it.

He's not a punk, he's not scared or shys away from contact. Give the dude some credit.

Reggie Bush had no problems running between the tackles in college, but when he got to the pros, they never ran any of those plays. Shoot at SC he was nearly running some guys over.

They tried to run him on sweeps and slants and even tough he was super fast, he didnt have guys like demarcus ware and ray lewis closing in on him.

Im making a comparison because i don't think its fair to ASSUME this guys can't run between the tackles.

But I think it's unfair to ask a guys his size to do it more than 10 times a game. But he's no punk, he can get those short yards if he needs to and if oline can push.

Btw I'm not arguing. But I think man can handle running between the tackles, hell be okay.

That's not really true. I've heard from GMs and analysts that their boards are pretty much set before the combine, and they don't really change much. I forgot who said it but it was a scout who said something like "When you hear that a guy has shot up draft boards, it's really just the media and casual fans catching up. Really the scouts and GMs are already high on those guys". It's always about the tape. But Grigson said that unless a guy runs a really bad 40, bombs interviews, or his medical check comes back negative that draft boards really don't change all that much.

I hope you are right!  It sure seemed like Grigs bit on some of these guys.  But who really knows?

    • Kind of funny actually considering he was the forum whipping boy all thru preseason and camp
    • It's just weird not seeing linebackers reading runs and going forward to drill rb's in a hole.   Leonard's turnover creating peanut punches and interceptions helped mask how weak our D's were. Ballard is a failure at producing a contender type D.  And there are more than enough points on the graph as proof.
    • It is crazy. The fanbase thinks they were going to avoid the whole team struggling. But the Colts D is even worse this year and young Ant Rich doesn't even play D lol. If this keeps up, Gus is gonna get on the bus outta town. Speakin of "Stop it," I'd like to see this D stop somethin, stop anything. Stop the run, stop the pass, and do not let da Bears, with their rookie QB and trash oline, look like a real offense, or I'll panic for real. The D needs to get this turned around so that "My Bad" Bullhead Ballard will still be here to extend some more contracts. Ol' Jimmy I. is patient, but I bet he doesn't like looking like a fool.     NFL defense rankings 2024   30. Indianapolis Colts (28): Worst NFL defenses 2024 Let’s put things into perspective with this Indianapolis Colts defense. Malik Willis, who entered Sunday with a career 48.7 QB rating, completed 85.7 percent of his 14 pass attempts for 1 touchdown and 126.8 passing yards. That means through two weeks, this Colts defense has allowed a 115-plus QB rating in consecutive games. As for the Colts run defense, this group surrendered over 200 rushing yards for the second consecutive week. It’s inexplicable why Gus Bradley was retained and even more baffling why this unit wasn’t adequately addressed by GM Chris Ballard this offseason. Ultimately, it will be the Colts’ undoing.   https://sportsnaut.com/nfl-defense-rankings/
    • Ha. Yep.    If ya ain't got one though, ya have to keep hittin' the slots until you win.
    • Yeah, like Bo Nix??     So much over reaching for QBs.
