What If Del Rio Was Our D-Coordinator?

He wasn't a good HC, but he did help put together the Ravens Defense. So Pagano & Del Rio working together could be a good thing...?

Any thoughts?

I would be okay with that.

He did a great job on the defensive side of the ball and shares the same vision of a defense as Pags.

I could go with that. then maybe go after the saints OC to run the offense? so with pags, del rio and the saints OC the colts should shape up to being contenders again in 2013. as im sure with many colts fans were not getting our hopes up for next season because of rebuilding. but the smart thing to do would be to resign wayne garcon and mathis, use the money you save with releasing manning sign laron ladnry at safety to take over bullitts position and maybe sign desean jackson? both are in their 20's both are pro bowlers, both can be a big impact on their side of the ball. Landry and Bethea would be one of the best Safety tandoms in the league, and Desean Jackson, Wayne, Garcon and Collie would be perfect weapons to welcome luck into the league with. and if Clark can stay healthy it just adds that much more fire power. maybe sign someone like Mario Williams to play LB along side Angerer. Houston wont be able to sign Williams unless its dirt cheap because they gotta resign arian foster.its just a thought, realistic but just a thought. oh and if worst got to worst in getting jackson, could let wayne walk or slap him with the franchise tag inorder to bring in the young receiver.

To me, Marc Trestman, who is now coaching with the CFL but has had A LOT OF NFL coaching experience (http://en.wikipedia....i/Marc_Trestman), is probably the best guy to tutor a guy like Andrew Luck if a rookie QB is who we are going with. I like how he has been QB coach, RB coach and OC at several places.

Look at the offensive numbers his NFL QBs put up before we had the current pass friendly rules in place, very impressive to me.

I love that guy's resume.... Chad..and I'd welcome him

but why would he come to Indy to be an assistant coach?

He's a head coach now..

It is all about challenges. He left being OC in the NFL for being a head coach in the CFL. Now, he has got a #1 pick, possibly a QB, to work with and a new challenge with a new regime, IMO.

I am sure if Irsay opens the checkbook just a tad bit, he can get Trestman for offensive co-ordinator.

I agree with this and would be very pleased if it indeed happened.

I'd throw up a little. You're talking about a guy that beat up a HOFer from his own team. A guy that spent more time on the sidelines in Lucas Oil Stadium and the Hoosier Dome crying to officials than he did coaching. A guy who's D was ranked pretty well a couple of times but never beat a good offense when it counted. Overrated

How do we know it was Del Rio, and not his D-Coordinator(s) who did a good job with the Jacksonville defense? Was he (Jack) calling the plays?

I wonder, because people seem to make a lot of assumptions about a coach's ability based on the performance of one particular facet of the team. Usually, that's not the head coach's job. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer or anything, but what evidence do we have that he would be a good D-Coordinator for us? Specifically, with our personnel?

Because he was a good coordinator when he was under Fox at Carolina and was a good LB coach at Baltimore.

Of course his coordinators deserve credit but Del Rio is a defensive guy who brought his philosophies with him there and found the good coordinators to impliment it.

That is what we all hope Pagano does. Find guys to impliment a 3-4 similar to what Baltimore has run the past few years. The fact is he knows how to run that scheme well himself more than likely means he can recognize people who understand what he is looking to impliment.

brilliant, I am sure Carmichael is jumping at the bit to leave an elite QB and a very very good HC in Payton in a culturally diverse warm weather town that has just totally embraced their team to make a lateral move and come to Indy...

Lol, I was just getting ready to say the same thing. It's at least more realistic than Peyton Manning for HC, Offens. Coord., Def Coord, Long Snapper, or any other position with the Colts.

    • What I’m reading on him the Pacers did get good value. Looks like he will need time to develop but he is in the right situation to do that. The pacers are stacking some quality young players that will prove to be more outstanding depth or assets if they choose to make a trade. Very exciting time for the team right now.
    • I’m not a religious person, but since you’re an educator I think you’re doing Gods work!   In these crazy insane times we’re all living in you’re doing one of the toughest jobs on earth.  And you’re teaching perhaps the most difficult generation to deal with.     From a distance it feels like you’re being very unfair to you.  I’m hoping in time you’ll see yourself in a completely different light.    Someone highly thought of.  A leader in the community.  A protector of young minds.   I couldn’t admire a teacher more.
    • You are too self-deprecating. You are one of the most respected and bright members here. You should never feel that you are failing. I'm sure your wife and children don't feel that way.  Indiana does not pay teachers what they deserve. But money is overrated. Having good morals and good character should be valued a lot more. JMO.
    • They make a heck of a lot more money than I do. Even those on the practice squad are making life changing money.    To be completely honest, as an educator I feel more like trash nowadays. One of those moments where I feel like I’m failing as a man, a husband, a father and a teacher. I would absolutely never consider an honest working NFL player as trash.
    • Food for thought… Once again, you continue to be your own worst enemy.     The Colts overall TE room is loaded with young players most of whom have had very little playing time for a variety of reasons.   So if you want to say the room might not be ranked high, that’s fair.    But you don’t say that.  You call them “trash”.  Why you feel that’s appropriate is a mystery.   Whenever you try the internet tough guy approach it typically blows up on you.     No one is trash.     You ignore the last three years and the QB and HC carousel the Colts have dealt with.  All of which has impacted the Colts weapons, especially the TE’s.   Ballard has publicly talked about how promising he thinks his TE room might be.   Woods, Granson, Ogletree, Mallory and MAC.    Only MAC is questionable and that’s because the salary hasn’t matched expectations.  But the first four?   All are promising.   They’re just young and looking for opportunity.  But they are NOT trash.     There’s a difference.
